  1. I know Phants. But now I'm chuckling at the thought of some bloke sitting in the executive lounge sipping fine wine, then going back to a tent in Leigh Woods...
  2. And I would suggest Maguire's form, which is so bad he's only started three games of league football this season, is the principal reason why he shouldn't be picking up a place in the squad. He's also very likely carrying the effects of a recent hamstring injury. And don't get me started on Kalvin Phillips. What they've done in the past, when they were younger, under different circumstances, and with different choices available to the manager, is not as relevant as what they are doing now.
  3. I would be amazed if any supporter invested 90% of their disposable income. Who would that be? A tramp with an executive box and shirt sponsorship? I don't think Lansdown really has great judgement on football matters, but there are worse owners - and better ones - out there. I think the fact that he is based in Guernsey is irrelevant. Some highly successful clubs have owners based in different continents. My hope is he starts to takes advice from people with a sound knowledge of the game. But that hasn't happened so far. There was nothing wrong with the Pearson appointment of course. Welcomed by the vast majority of supporters and even seen as something of a 'coup'. It's some of the errors from before that have stymied Pearson. That said, I honestly can't see losing to a L1 side in the League Cup as a reason to blame Lansdown, who had zero to do with the team selection, coaching or tactics. I'm with @italian dave on this one. We could have worse, but Lansdown's poor decisions have meant his PL aspirations remain as elusive as ever.
  4. If that's a qualification, we may as well have taken Phil Jagielka. Form comes and goes in sportsmen, and it should be any manager's first thought when selecting a side.
  5. The last bloke to stick with a wingback system at this level, week-in, week-out, despite clear evidence it wasn't working...
  6. Chelmsford City FC. Town of 160,000. Nearish London. Never played in the league and currently Tier 6.
  7. Maybe he wants to come here to outdo the two 9-0's he suffered at Saints?
  8. I'm not convinced another manager could improve us fast enough to salvage much from this season - and we're not an attractive prospect for anyone with much of a pedigree. If the rest of the season is a relegation battle then the Pearson experiment can be counted as failed. New ideas needed. It has to be said, he does drop a number of clangers and make some baffling choices.I wonder if his health issues during Covid left a permanent dent on his managerial ability? They say a 'clouded mind' is one symptom of Long Covid
  9. I realise that no player performed well in the first half, but the other defenders had their jobs to do - particularly as they were under continuous pressure due to our invisible midfield. There's a limit to how far they could 'help out' a player who wasn't getting anything right. This was up there with the infamous Towler display that led to him being taken off and loaned out. I think similar might benefit Joe here. It'll be a rude awakening for the lad - and those that felt he was ready. Nerves got the better of him and obviously he is a better player than he showed there. Regular competitive football at a lower league level should bring his confidence back and hone his skills. It's clear however that we cannot at present use him to plug any defensive holes that might occur.
  10. He looks like the guy we saw in his first appearances here, who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. Thing is: We know he can do better. Shoot better; pass better; be stronger; think better. Why he isn't is conjecture. Fevs thinks it's physical, I think it's mental attitude, others think it's World Cup fever. Up to Nigel to pull him out of it though, or he's bench material at best.
  11. A confidence player. And his is shot at the moment - like many of the squad.
  12. I don't think Klose has fully recovered from his injury. King is too old and should concentrate on his coaching role.Martin has totally lost form to the extent I fo not think he will regain it. Waste of a space in the matchday squad.I'd rather see Massengo sat there, regardless of his probable impending departure. At least he entertains for about 10 minutes per game.
  13. The word 'genius' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, Fordy!
  14. Yet, he routinely gets game time. Another black mark against Pearson's judgement.
  15. Chinese betting syndicate. Accidentally posted the desired result before the game started.
  16. One of the most embarrassing scorelines I've seen in a lifetime of supporting City.
  17. Exactly, there are a few youngsters but plenty of first-team regulars there.
  18. People pay money (not just admission, but travel costs and potentially time off work) and they go to be entertained. If we are abject, they are entitled to show their displeasure. Football has ever been thus, everywhere and at all levels.
  19. Circumstances mean I can't be there - which is very unusual for me, I rarely miss a home game - so sing a bit louder for me. If you can do a basso profundo "you redzzzz" about 2 minutes after everyone else has stopped singing it, you'll be making up for my absence...
  20. The punch up is real, the knocked-out bit is invention.
  21. Strikes me that the old Oh Basso chant could just be altered.
  22. For a long time, we had hardly anyone homegrown that could cut it at this level. But then, we were marrooned in L1 for a lot of that period. Joe Bryan and Bobby Reid broke that spell.
