  1. Gerry Gow for me too. I also remember Geoff Merrick becoming the youngest Captain in the country when he was just 21.
  2. On their forum; "Nothing result and drab performance against a lowly team. Not good enough but Tony will be happy. "
  3. https://www.brfcs.com/forums/topic/35151-v-bristol-city-a-201121-local-info-for-those-heading-to-the-gate-from-a-bristol-city-follower/ They complain at £33 tickets and also that there's no POTD. The last time I went to this fixture it was by train to Parson Street, I recomend doing that, there are a couple of decent pubs between the station and the ground. One was a ardent BCFC pub with loads of memorabillia on the walls. The old adage, keep your gob shut and you won't get any trouble, came into play. An easy, 10 minute downhill walk to catch the train back, after the game. Bristol....a footballing wilderness, nothing to see here. 2-1 Home advantage says the head, 1-3 delirium says the heart! Bristol City aren't the side they were a couple of seasons ago and have struggled so far this season. They've lost key players in Nagy, Pack, Eliasson and Diedhiou and haven't replaced them properly by the looks of it. They are there for the taking today.
  4. Don't worry, City are working towards it. ? And if you believe the hype, so are Rovers. I've seen another documentary and one of the then Forest players reckons they could have gone on, but for some reason the team was split up after the 1980 success.

    FA Cup 2021-22

With those first round draws, I feared the worst for the West country. But no, going into the 2nd round we have Plymouth, Exeter, Yeovil, Rovers and Cheltenham. How many / will any of them join City in round three?
  6. That game at Cremonese had an attendance of (I believe) 524. Cremonese made it to the final and took over 1,000 fans there.
  7. Reported on a French TV channel that the South Africans have lodged an official complaint and are demanding, not that the result is reversed, just a replay.
  8. A Northerner pointed out to me that Gateshead, Accrington, Southport, Barrow and then Workington failed to win re-election to the League. Four of the five new teams were from the South, P'boro' Cambridge, Hereford& Wimbledon. He was convinced of a conspiracy theory and argued that if a Northern team drops out, they should be replaced by a Northern team.
  9. "Back then" no auto promotion from non league, so if careful, could keep the same set for seasons on end.
  10. Been announced today that next season will start on 6th August. Because of the World Cup in Qatar, the season will have a break starting 14th November. The league will then restart on 26th December and finish on May28th.
  11. Not just a team mate; some Managers have been taken out as well.
  12. "Well Alan; how do you explain this day light robbery" to which AD replied he was not there to provide entertainment for Manchester United fans.
  13. Why was the league set up with games starting at 3.00pm Saturday? Back then, the majority of people worked Saturday mornings, (remember shops shut on Wednesday afternoon). At the end of that Saturday shift, you would receive your pay packet so would go for a beer and then perhaps go to the local game before returning home. 150odd years later with working from home and flexible hours etc, we could see the fixture list being arranged and clubs told "Sort out with your visitors which time your game will kick off and also which day".
  14. When he was manager at PNE, City did go for him, but the Preston board refused us permission to even talk with the man.
  15. Correct and imagine how he must feel. Invests sooo much money then both the football and rugby club under achieve.
  16. Today's game, as you correctly write, is just one game out of 46. It is a pointer though to how this season is already panning out. A 3-0 defeat, a 2-1 win after which many people conceded the better side lost, another 3-0 defeat, than today the oppos have a man sent off, City twice took the lead and still lost. It appears to me at least, that this club that means so much to us, is not even standing still, but is sliding back down football's greasy pole.
  17. I'm generally an optimist. Win today and we are looking good for mid table obscurity, (as many on this forum hoped for in August). Lose today though and we'll be looking down.
  18. On Points West last night did they say busses will be charged £100 / day? If true, the bus company will pass that on to the passengers which fill force many more people off public transport.

    Passing

Not just them. I've posted several time in other threads that soooo many passes or crosses are under or overhit and give / gift the ball to the oppos.
  20. Never mind sacking the manager for poor ressults, can we sack players for the same reason?
  21. I'm not at the game but am watching on TV. As so often this season City give the ball away because so many passes and crosses are under or over hit, the players struggle to get the ball to a team mate.
  22. Just looked at their forum and a message for those driving to the ground; Insulate Britain Have blocked Paradise Circus this morning, might be worth planning a different route for tonight if you have to come through that way!

    Nuno Sacked

Interesting to read, after the man was sacked; "Nuno is a gentleman and will be welcome back here anytime". Initial discussions with his replacement took place yesterday. Suggests Nuno is the inly gentleman in this affair.
