You’re clearly someone who is either a coach or someone who is a student of the game judging from your posts (many of which I find interesting, and seem to have an ITK edge to them) However on balance how many successful managers (and that can be the only yardstick) have sat in the stands on a regular basis?

If sitting in the stand is the best option why does Nigel usually end up on the touch line?

If only to try and break the current trend at home I would like to see him on the touch line from the beginning on Tuesday night, it might make the difference, sitting in the stand isn’t winning home games at the moment. Try something  different Nige.

    Cheers

There are pros and cons of both. I can see why he's doing it, and I can see why it irks some that he does. Personally I don't care what he does if we're winning ...

Jesus if you think we're struggling for goals now, would be even worse with that starting XI.

There might be eleven named, but it looks more like a starting nine.

Drop Martin & Weimann to the bench

Start Wells up front, supported by Scott.

Given we will likely have no HNM, Williams, King or Atkinson:

                         Bentley

    Tanner  Kallas  Baker  Dasilva

    Palmer  James  Bakinson  Pring

                        Scott

                        Wells

Well, I'd hope we'd have HNM available. I'd put in him ahead of Bakinson, and swap Scott and Palmers positions.

I mentioned this to the club a few years ago, I got told, by Adam Baker I think, that the club had monitored it and decided leaving to the crowd to create an atmosphere hadn’t worked.

personally I used to love the build up a crowd created, especially with a big away following. Maybe it’s different now, I don’t know.

Probably doesn't help with most fans arriving late, or staying in the concource until 5 minutes from the start. Mind you we don't have the Rocking Robins anymore ...

The chaos who sit just down from me, spent all game on their phones.  They don’t even watch the game.

You see it all the time don't you. There is no hope for some, I'm not sure they realise what the point of going to football is. The fans who video parts of games are similar - some using ipads ffs - they take themselves out of being a participant by doing that, losing what it is to be there.

(My phone stays in my pocket until half time/full time when I might text a couple of mates my thoughts on proceedings. Nothing worthwhile or insghtful unfortunately: Saturday's halftime keyword was 'non-conpetative')

On Saturday with plenty of time to think, due to getting stuffed, I wonder how we can continue to give visiting teams such a great time.

Our singing section is tucked in a corner with virtually no noise until the game starts. Such a limited range of songs and few that others can understand and join in with. We sing the Dasilva song whether is is good or bad because its one of the few that we have.

At the other end !!. We give them a full end behind a goal. Why don't the away fans at the gate get tucked into a top corner somewhere like we do?

I started watching City in 1970. The East End then has some pride and character. The song leaders where at the back in the middle and the singing spread out wide to both sides. The noise then would put our current volume to shame. We had a song for each player which didn't need to be a musical master piece. Everyone could hear it and join in. We had real hostility when one of ours was wronged.

We briefly heard the far end of the Dolman on Saturday but it soon died out.

For Goodness sake. Lets move the singing section to the middle of the East End. Get some simple and decent songs and belt them out and finally lets move the away fans as far away from the pitch as we can.

Lets also turn the pre match music down so that at least the fans can be heard.

Come on, the team needs help and the noise and encouragement just has to be better

I think that anyone under about 35-40 just has no clue about what an atmosphere was. Changes in attitude/the rot set in when grounds started to become all seater. I'm convinced I've been in crowds of 5 or 6k near the bottom of the fourth division when the home ashton gate crowd was more vocal than it's been (bar man utd/man city/the one time in 20 years we play rovers).

I'm in the middle of the Dolman and if I hear it (and its not a negative chant - no need for it - get behind yourt team) I join in. I'm the 1 in 100 there. But the middle of the SS is pretty pathetic. I guess times have changed, mostly for the better, but probably if the atmosphere gets much worse we'll have the American's landing and planting flags in the centre circle during games.

In one instance he couldn't even be bothered to lift his leg and make a stab at winning a loose ball just outside of our box. Prefered to let the Bournemouth player take it for free. Absolute liability with the ball.

I actually meant without but it almost scans as well this way.

I think Bakinson needs to decide if he’s up for it or not. Can really see his career drifting. Couple of occasions yesterday when others are running their nuts off (as we had 10 men) and he’s strolling, letting men run off him.

    Unacceptable.

Needs a little word from Nige. Suspect  he might struggle to make the 18 on Tuesday if Atkinson and Massengo fit, even w/o Williams and King.  Vyner can come in, Bell maybe too.

What this also suggests is that Ashton left without any exit deal. If one existed, it would no doubt have included a clause preventing him from poaching BCFC players or staff.

You can't stop anyone moving jobs subject to contract.

Yeah true, I dunno just thought it might’ve been a question to ask. Feel like if we had fans behind both goals it would benefit us a lot more. Just small margins

The South Stand is hardly full at the moment, you want to spread the butter that thin :) Realistically this is won't happen for logistical reasons - if they they can redevelop the Atyeo, maybe this could be incorporated - i.e. shove the away fans to the right side like in the first division days.

I suppose the frustration is which clubs are currently seen as "bigger, better, and with more chance of winning things":

    • Lloyd Kelly moved to the "bigger and better" Bouremouth
    • Bobby Reid moved to the "bigger and better" Cardiff
    • Joe Bryan moved to the "bigger and better" Fulham
    • Adam Webster moved to the "bigger and better" Brighton
    • Josh Brownhill moved to the "bigger and better" Burnley

I don't really mind us losing our best players as that happens to every club in the world (perhaps bar Real Madrid and Barcelona). I absolutely get why these players move....they would be crazy to turn down premier league football and money.

However, I can see why one might be frustrated about some of the clubs listed above being considered a step up from us. Perhaps that's what @Sleepy1968 was getting at?

It's not really those clubs in particular (though deep down it might be!), it's more of a frustration that unless and until we can up our levels we're always going to lose players that can get us there before we've given ourselves a chance to get there. Almost a self fulfilling prophecy. It's like only able to run 25 miles of the marathon.

But, I am afraid that is football. There will always be a bigger club, more money, better chances of winning things, if you have a talented player he is going to attract suitors.

    Just the way it is.

    Yep. Life is life.

It's the hope that gets me ...

Great game to watch, shame about the last minute goal conceded. So gutted! Going to record Vixencast shortly...

Not sure how either us or Charlton missed the 6 yard box chances. Our defender did extremely well to clear the ball from the chance FB had tipped onto the bar. FB almost gifted them two goals with languid "clearances" from pass-backs. Overall there wasn't much in it. We just need to keep going and the results will come. COYR.

He's had an ok-ish career but Hull was his high point. He not only got them into the Prem, he kept them there for their first season.

Would think he still has a good reputation at Hull, gave them a load of good memories even if didn't end well.

We have Alan Dicks, who many supporters think well of - and that didn't end well either.

    Maybe a few parallels there?

Most managers get the sack don't they, so I guess it doesn't usually end well.

We seemed to be punching above our weight whilst we were in division one - even getting their was a great acheivement. Better to have loved and lost and all that, and that's down to AD and his staff. He will always be held in high regard by those that remember those times.

It seems to me that the directors/owners of the club mismanaged players/contracts so badly following the Gary Collier debacle - put a millstone around the manager's neck, and sank us into financial and footballing ruin.

  15. I know what you're saying OP, but he was only on loan so never really our player. It's when we have contracted players that move on to 'bigger/better' clubs to further their careers because it makes me sad that we are still way behind the curve, and not expected to achieve anything.

Take HNM, probably the most exciting player, and the fantastic prospect Alex Scott. I don't want them to move on to a better clubs, but realisically we'll lose them both, possibly this season. Our only hope in these circumstances is to upcycle our squad quickly and get into a position to make these sort of players believe that we can go with them on their journey. A tall order.

So you think we wouldn't be a yo-yo club if we ever achieve this much talked-about, but highly elusive, promotion to the Premier League???

I'd bite your hand off for a bit of yo-yo action!
