  1. I have a little soft spot for Bury mostly because of my father who grew up in the Rhondda Valley.

His younger brother married a girl from Bury and they lived at 5, Gigg Lane, about 15 yards from the turnstiles to the Bury FC ground. My Dad lived with them in the 1930's when he was going anywhere in the country looking for work because the mining industry was at rock bottom at the time.

And the last match that my father watched at Ashton Gate a couple of years before he died, was in the Fourth Division against Bury.

So, I for one, will be chuffed if Bury FC can regain their Football League status soon.

You make it sound like he has done well here and we should all be delighted with the last 2 seasons..!

Now don't get me wrong, I was surprised & pleased when we appointed him.

His first year was a disaster, but we all understood that a large project of rebuilding was underway.

By December, I wanted him gone as we looked utterly clueless & destined to be relegated.

A turn around since then gave a little more optimism for the future - but you make it sound like we have some messiah at the helm.!

He has been below average up to this point - hopefully because of needing to tighten the belt - but this season will be all on him & we've/he's got few excuses to get away with another dire period again.

Hopefully it will be steadily onward & upward from here - but less that a top 10 finish will be disappointing inho & anything more will be great - anything less & we will be back to square one - with a totally unremarkable 3 years having passed us by.

I really don't get why some feel the need to have their tongue quite so firmly up his arse, like he has actually done anything to be very pleased about here, yet.

Hopefully this season will justify my initial enthusiasm over his appointment.

So I suppose you preferred his predecessor who measured the height of the grass and narrowed the pitch because he couldn't organise a defence. The one who picked show ponies instead of good solid performers.

The dipstick who, as a player, slammed the dropped ball into the net from the restart after an opponent was treated for an injury.

I would say the vast majority of people attending will have a compatible smartphone or be with someone who does (if kids tickets).

Unfortunately whether you like it/agree with it most clubs are now going digital. For me and a lot of other people its safer and more convenient.

There will always be a minority who cant use it and they will have to accommodate those with physical cards but i wouldn't say the club are acting 'stupidly' just moving with the times, like when it went from paper tickets to a plastic card...

So in addition to the ST cost, we'll probably have to buy a new bloody phone every year?

Yes entry level phone so no NFC, have to be a physical card then but your statement that most Android phones do not have NFC is incorrect...

So if so many of us don't have a suitable phone, what is the point of changing the entry to stadium method? The club is acting very stupidly IMO!

It's a shame that many of our supporters are so sarcastic about those of us who are significantly older than many of our supporters. We are not stupid old cretins. Then again supporting City for seventy years probably does say a lot for my intelligence!

It's always the fans who come every match who suffer, not those with pots of money who can afford phones that cost an arm and a leg. The fans who have always paid their way with turnstile operators, clerical staff and Directors taking their share of the "gate money" which was one of the reasons for 1982. And who got us back on track? People like me who put his total savings account(£90) in new shares.

Almost all modern Android devices have NFC...? ("Android 10 and iOS 13 were released in 2019, and both can run on most smartphones going back to at least 2017. That means that nearly any phone made in the last six years should be able to offer full NFC support")

Which Android version or phone are you talking about?!

    @!james

    It is a Nokia G10

  6. I believe that he has taken us for a ride in the last twelve months at least. He is a skilful footballer yet has promised so much in his time here yet has hardly performed to our benefit. I know it sounds a bit nasty from me, but good riddance for the money we spent on him in fee and wages and got very little back in return.

Am I right in thinking Pearson always takes his teams to Austria for pre-season training? (excluding Covid)

Higher altitude so the players have to work that bit harder with an aim of creating better stamina. I noticed last season that the squad was able to last a match better than many previous City team.

That's my opinion, some will agree and some will not.

That's sh**e American sport for you but are you really surprised? The slave trade still exists over the pond where countless people are paid peanuts and need to rely on tips to survive.

    Totally agree with your comments.

  9. The Eastville one in '76. We were on our way up to Div One.

I was right at the back and a local ice cream van stopped on the hard shoulder of M32 to sell ice cream and cold drinks to the City fans within easy reach. After five minutes, Mr Plod car stopped and told him to move. He just drove around the block and arrived again a few minutes later. Same copper came back and moved him on. This happened about three more times until ice cream driver got their message.

Much better entertainment than a boring 0-0 against the carp of Eastville!

Love the fact I’m on one of the pics of the first ever flag day many years ago

albeit with a little more on top and a little less around the middle ??ctid

    @redkev

And a brain which keeps telling you that you should find another club to support with your time and money. One that wins trophies and plays superb flowing football in every match.

I'm the same ever since I was taken by Dad. What a way to treat his six year old son! I keep going because one day it must be better than ever before. I'm coming up to my eightieth birthday and when my wife asked where I wanted to celebrate it, I replied that it would be a few days later when City start their "Promotion to the Prem" with a six nil thrashing of PNE.

    Dream on!

I think we need to be really cautious with our expectations for Benarous this season.

He looked promising in his handful of appearances, but he's a teenager who has only played 600 minutes of Championship football. He's then suffered a significant injury which, unfortunately, can really derail a player's progress. To expect him to come back from injury and act as the replacement for Alex Scott is a huge ask.

That's not to say Benarous won't go on to be Scott's replacement, but it's very bold to rely on Ayman being ready to shoulder that responsibility as early as August.

One of the most important changes to City's way of working since Pearson and Rennie arrived is the fact that however it has been a short term negative, no injured player has been rushed back before everyone concerned appears to be 120% satisfied that the player concerned is fit and needs first team games to become fully fit.

This way of doing things is not followed by many managers but for us it has given a lot of first team football to the young ones from our Academy and recruited from outside.

I see Ayman being nursed back gently for maybe several months before he is considered totally fit for battle twice a week for 95 minutes. If he makes it back earlier to 110% fitness all well and good.

Whichever way it goes, we have, IMO, a real gem from our Academy to add to several others. Reminiscent of the times in the past when our home grown boys brought some real pride into our lives.

Putting aside the very elderly and those who can’t afford the means to, that sounds like an awful lot of people to me where the only thing missing is a willingness to embrace the natural evolution of technology and learn.

We talk about today’s pensioners like they’re war veterans or grannies sitting around knitting and singing Vera Lynn songs. Even someone in their 80s now was still in the workplace until about 2005, by which time the internet was commonplace.

I started using company computer system for stock control as far back as 1978. And got my first personal computer in 1989. I've done my banking via internet since 1995. I booked holidays in New Zealand/Western Samoa 2001 and honeymoon in Italy in 2002 via the web.

My only problem now at 80 years, is keeping up with the way rapid changes are occurring. If I have a problem, I just ring my 17 years granddaughter for advice.

I think some of you younger fans don't know how much we oldies use the internet.

I’ve given two or three away over the years but I’ll probably get cremated in both of them. ?

Get your relatives to sell them as it may pay for the visit to the Crem.
