What ever the result tomorrow , O’Leary ,Vyner , Pring , Scott and possibly Bell will be in our starting eleven - a great achievement by the club to have so many home grown players in the starting 11 , plus others such as Taylor-Clarke on the bench , what an experience for them

    Well mentioned @daored

We won't ever win promotion with an all Academy side but it does help towards the team spirit.

I remember 1974 to 76 very well and it was wonderful to see us climb up to the First Division with a mostly home grown squad.

Oh for it to happen again.

Heard on the radio the other day , the cup tie rule was brought in under the old transfer system when it used to run from august to the end of March . To stop teams buying or loaning players to bolster their up runs. It’s now out dated& should be changed .

Goes back further than post war in 1945 as it's been in existence since I first started watching City in 1950.

As for the Man U in 1958 if my memory is correct the players brought in were Stan Crowther from Villa and Albert Quixall of Sheff Wednesday.  Harry Gregg and Bobby Charlton, survivors of the crash, played in the rearranged Cup tie about a week after the crash.

How could either of them perform up to normal quality a few days after getting people and possibly bodiesl out of the aircraft.

  3. I wasn't at the game, suffering in Cardiff Millennium, but it was a penalty because the referee said so and we scored a goal and won the game.

I could not care less if it is proved not to be a handball in the box.

For the last two seasons we have been denied a significant number of "certs" by putrid refereeing and the penalty that was awarded at Hull on first day of this season when their player clearly cheated and fooled another useless referee.

A manager who will never be content with achievements to date but will keep on searching for perfection if that is ever possible on a football pitch.

Great to see him relaxed and enjoying his job.

I am going to be a slight sobering voice here - I thought some of the footwork and skill was fantastic, but I do think (currently) he has a tendency, as was the case in his other home games, to go into traffic a lot and hold the ball fractionally too long.

I think these are things that will improve the longer he’s here and reads/gets used to the other players around him, and the materials are definitely there, but if he’s still doing the above at the end of the season then it’s more of a concern.

However - undoubtedly a heck of a player, it’s more fine tuning.

Thanks for the praise. I'm beginning to believe that when the coaching staff have taught him when to make a pass instead of trying to beat all and sundry on his own, we will have a player who will contribute a lot more than the one he has replaced, Semenyo.

He could be the "tin opener" that makes City into a team with very a realistic chance of success.

  6. I wasn't there as I went to Cardiff for Wales v England.

From a quick scan through today's posts, it appears to me that we are on a good run of matches because each match brings out different "tops of the pile" from the team.

One week it's Scott, or O'Leary. Bell or Wells, Vyner or Pring and so on. This tells me that a very high percentage of our squad are contributing to the unbeaten run. It's how teams win titles, cups and promotions. Long may it continue.

    Oups, 3 points, you're right.

In that match it didn't help us, but there was a more clear one (with possible red card for the goalkeeper) in the first minutes.

Generally speaking, many of those penalties not given happened when the result was still open or - like today - as a possible opening goal: obviously you have to score them and they don't guarantee a good result, but surely would have brought us more points (and less stress/ relegation fears).

Third penalty against Man City?!? ?

What happened in the first minutes?

I'm asking for a friend who went to Cardiff to watch Wales v England rugby.

Hopefully we will turn up, be total professionals (as of late) and secure our championship staus for next season.

Must never be complacent; respect them.....these games are critical to the teams scrapping at the bottom......they won't just not turn up.

Fingers crossed we can make good progress.

I believe that the days of complacency for matches against teams at the bottom, fighting to avoid the drop are now a thing of the past at BCFC.

Pearson would bomb out any players who showed the slightest bit of indiscipline during games, as totally unsuitable for our club.

What I would say, given the association with gaelic football and rugby, the kit must be fairly robust.

Not sure it should be seen as a backwards step either. A long standing sportswear manufacturer, looking to expand it's horizons in the football market, could be seen as a positive if we become the biggest client and the 'poster boy' for the brand.

Castore as a brand is less than 10 years old, yet is associated with some of the biggest clubs in the country and also the England Cricket team. All about seizing opportunities at the right time.

The quality of the last three rugby manufacturers, has been considerably stronger or tougher than the football ones.

This seasons shirt that I mentioned in my previous post, was so thin and flimsy compared with a couple of rugby shirts I have.

I guess simply that rugby shirts need a greater resistance because of the handling they get during a match.  Thus I prefer something more substantial today wear than a shirt with the thickness of a one sheet of kitchen roll.

  10. As with any other product from yachts, cars, buildings, those with all the money buy the most expensive items they can.  So let's imagine someone on £30K per annum buys a top of the range Lamborghini and it breaks down on the same day as do fifty others owned by millionaires.

Who gets the best response? Those in mansions, palaces etc., Or the guy in Withywood? No offence to Withywood residents.

Bristol City and Bristol Bears are medium sized clubs so will never get A1 service from companies that are supplying country's international sides, the elite clubs like PSG, Real, Manure and so on.

So surely it is better for us to use a middle of the road sportswear manufacturer who will regard us as one of their important customers with service and quality as good as we can get.

As an aside, I haven't bought a City replica shirt since 1999. But at start of this season, I decided I would. I am a 38/40 chest for all clothing and have been for all of my life. The red and white sleeved medium shirt that I tried to put on was so small that I couldn't even get my 6 and 7/8ths head in. The only size I could get on was XXXL. I didn't buy one!

6 and 7/8 ths head is smaller than Small size!

I agree, it seems like Wimbledon wanted to have their cake and eat it in January. Unfortunately for them, we are not Chelsea or Man City and we needed him now. I don't think there was any issues around valuation.

Can you blame them? They would have been left with a few hours to replace him. They have a responsibility to their manager, players and supporters not to leave a hole in their points gathering, just as we do.

I'm struggling to understand their mentality.

Why would they want to show off their club at their local rivals stadium that is a million times better than their own?

Why should they not come to Ashton Gate to see an international football match? And have a bit of fun by waving a tea towel as a flag!

As a young City fan, before age 25, I had been to so many other stadia to see other teams and above all, the star international players. And in the twilight of my life, I still enjoy seeing the world's star footballers, cricketers and rugby players. And I would have been at the match last evening if it had been possible but alternative event already booked before I heard about the game.

I'm off to Cardiff this Saturday to see Wales v England, perhaps not the top sides they were a while ago but there will still be one or two moments of real class to enjoy. Yes, I will miss seeing Hull walloped but I can't be in two places at the same time.

And I'll be there on Tuesday to see a class team dumped out of the FA Cup by the Red City minnows.

That’s a blow. Hope he can recover super-quick.

Was somewhat bewildered by the decision to let Ryan Towler go for several reasons. The loss of a first teamer centre back, being just one.

Think the Club said at the time to explain the decision that we had better coming through. Well, if that’s the case, it’s going to be interesting to see who that is.  Any of our Academy watchers know who is the centre back that will step into the breach?

Probably Low who is on loan at Walsall.

I've had an opportunity to watch the interview. I agree that the way Alexander describes Scudamore's involvement makes it sound quite involved. In particular he refers to meeting him prior to starting work here. That makes it sound like Scudamore's an important person for a new CEO to meet.

    That is unusual.

Scudamore isn't a listed director of any Bristol City company.

He's not listed on the OS.

He's not listed in the "Who's Who" section of the matchday programme. That lists everyone down to the Club Chaplain and the Head of Marketing so if he's not there then I'm fairly confident he's not a strict employee.

I haven't got our annual return to hand so can't check if Scudamore's a shareholder either. If he is then it's a minority non-voting shareholding as Pula Sport owns all the voting shares.

Scudamore could be employed as a consultant and if he's got a formal consultant position then I think it's fine. It's a bit weird the Club aren't open about it, but generally I'd not be concerned by it.

However if he's just a mate of the owner who informally vets new CEOs and is heavily involved in decision making then from a governance perspective it's potentially a bit concerning as it would mean we've got someone influencing the Club who is not in anyway legally accountable. It would sound like he could be acting as a shadow director - although I'd expect someone of his experience to know how to avoid that trap. I was happy with Gould's explanation that it was a few chats and that Scudamore was a bit of a sounding board, but Alexander's description makes it sound like Scudamore has a little more control than the official records suggest he might.

I consider that you may be a bit to cautious about Scudamore's involvement. We've had some really inept administratators at City with the last one before Gould being the worst we could have possibly employed.

We have seen the benefits in the past two years of recruiting "professional" persons to the most important jobs in a football club: Gould in administration, Tinnion in the development of young players, and of course Pearson. Alexander, also with a long and apparently successful time in football has now replaced Gould and there doesn't appear to be any inkling that he isn't suitable.

So if Scudamore, with his long spell of experience at the Premier League, is willing to offer his advice, with or without payment, we would be really stupid to decline.

PS.I have no contact or know any of those mentioned so solely my opinion.

I'm not, having watched the Rovers v Burton highlights  ?‍♂️

I suspect that Leagues One and Two are better football quality to any other countries third and fourth tier leagues. Mainly because apart from England all others are minnow clubs, regional, playing in front of hundreds as opposed to minimum in England of around 4,000/5,000.

Also B teams of European big clubs are there. The equivalent to under 21's in England.

Thirty nine years ago. He'd definitely be in the frame for the worst keeper since 1945. Bournemouth were getting one over us even then!

Brian Mitchell at right back and Bas Savage, the trickiest striker that I've ever seen for City, up front among the rest.
