When has he said he doesn’t want to play for us?

Something else I’ve missed, along with those detailed contract offers??

Not this season but long term he is not wanting a new contract after June 2023, so in effect he doesn't want to play for BCFC.

This is the one thing I am frustrated with NP over, maybe if it was the 100 games scenario it would be more palatable.

I know opinions are mixed, but I rate HNM and would loved to have seen our midfield develop with him and Alex, as our best run of results this season was with Han in the team.

Sure someone will come back with how many goals or assists does he have, Han is probably the best player we have at interceptions and very rarely gives the ball away cheaply and gets us moving forward

I am disappointed the way its paned out and sure will go on to be a very good player, but we will only get minimal compensation, whereas had he been in the team znd playing well may have generated a decent fee.

He doesn't want to play for City any more so however good or bad he is is irrelevant.

It could be that if he makes 100 first team appearances, we have to pay Monaco a significant lump sum that we prefer to keep to help us with FFP. And why not as it could be  any sum  from £10,000 to a £million or more.

We will probably to continue to come at this from different angles.

I don’t disagree that this window “might” be the best window to sell him in, but if that is so, then you try to maximise it, because we hold the strong hand at this point (subject to change quickly in the world of football).

You seem to really undersell Antoine’s ability, consistent or not.  The fact that several PL teams are interested (some have bid) shows they believe he had PL ability, whether that’s consistent or inconsistent and NOW not just potential.  He has the physical attributes that clubs want.  They see it as something that gives him a better chance of being a success.  At his current inconsistency he has still got 7g / 2a in 1476 minutes of football.  At his average he’s scoring at a level that starts to stand out.

Again, your focus seems to be on fair price / market value for all parties, **** the other party, we want this to be the best deal for Bristol City.  There isn’t really a market to compare against is there, every transfer is different.  Was Adam Nagy to Pisa for free and a £750k impairment in the books a fair price / market value for an international with 50+ caps?

Bournemouth allegedly went from 6+2 to 8+2 in the blink of an eye….I just think we are right to play hardball on this one.

And that’s a big caveat, especially if he can reignite interest from someone like Palace.

I’m not sure it is conclusive re personal terms.  But I’m not ITK, so just have a different gut feel to you.

No, mainly because he wouldn’t come here, but also because he’d break our wage structure I suspect, he’s 30, has a history of niggly injuries.  I’d rather look for a player we’ve been scouting for our specific needs with growth.  I guess on loan you might.  I dunno.

A six + feet lump who as stated gets niggly injuries, lots of yellow cards is not how Pearson wants to play up front.

He wants those with real pace over first ten yards that leaves even top international central defenders in the wake. Body strength is more important than being an aerial battler when the ball usually goes in the wrong direction.

Quick passing to split defenders is what we have now so why change.

These are my opinions. I haven't spoken with Nigel for about forty years when he was at Shrewsbury with Moysie.

We got more than we ever could have imagined for Bobby Reid. At the start of the season before LJ was forced into making him a striker, I’d have given him away for free and you’d be hard pushed to find anyone who wouldn’t have. He was a midfielder and a complete liability on the ball. He’d give the ball away in the most ridiculous situations. But he really worked hard over that summer and became the fittest player about and fair play to him, it paid off.

As for Bryan, I think he was £7m. Which was also decent business.

    Are you ever right Fordy?

Pretty sure Gary Williams, who I did see, was son of Alan Williams from the late 50s? I know they both scored and have half a memory they were father and son.

Correct. I saw both of them in their City careers.

Coincidentally, they both went Oldham Athletic when they left City.

I've met Louis a number of times down the years, including playing 45 mins with him in a charity game for our mate in the summer of 2021 at Parson Street, he's always been absolutely sound as a pound!

I have never met Carey so I have no opinion about him as a person.

Where I'm coming from is going back to his last season as a player. A poor side with poor results. Evident from the way the team was clearly separated into two camps. As team captain, was he a leader of one camp? The way that he got his appearances to one more than the greatest Bristol City player of all time with minutes only was appalling. And he was reportedly by those in the know, not welcome by the hierarchy of City at Ashton Gate after he retired.

If ever there was a thread that epitomises everything about OTIB this is it

We've had this pitch for five or six years and not one instance of a bad or damaged pitch.

The grass is renewed by re-seeding every summer. It is kept growing during the winter low temperatures by the undersoil heating and the special lighting that the groundstaff wheel onto the pitch as and when required.

The opener of this thread either has not a clue about the pitch or just wants to stir things up. Sad!

Think of longer term. This form isn’t gunna last forever and our squad is thin. Selling AS for a decent sum will allow us to sign a few players of real quality fingers crossed and add depth to the squad

In addition to the benefit at the end of this financial year, there is also the fact that we are only nine points from the play offs.

I believe that we are definitely nowhere near being ready to make it to the promised land next season. But the play offs would firstly add to our income for FFP. Secondly it provides our growing number of young inexperienced with more opportunities to speed up this aspect of their learning curves.

For the supporters it could help us to become more positive about performance and results and create more noisy support than the present.

I've always thought that a lot of midland and northern clubs that have spent decades in top two tiers with cup finals and titles, even if decades ago, are quick to slag their sides when they are poor. Yet they react much more noisily and quickly to positive effort than we do. That can be the difference between drawing and winning/losing.

So hanging on to all but one sale, and limited recruitment, will give us a real boost to climb well away from the drop zone and might even go further as outlined above.

    COYREDS FOREVER.

I wonder how long it will be before we see Conway and Bell start together?

They had a great partnership developing in the U21s.

Such a shame Conway got injured...but again...someone's injury has allowed an opportunity quicker.

I get so frustrated at our current situation.

The thought of Pring, Benorous, Scott, Semenyo, Bell and Conway all playing fills me with excitement in the potential to take the next step. To be able to all develop together.

Conway and Bell reminds me of Riley and Neville. Not big lads but slippery like eels.

Nearly scored a cracking og in the first half

    Brilliant effort for a goal!

Play him up front and he'll probably get 30 goals per season.

Seriously, I first saw Vyner, Kelly and O'Leary playing in under 23's in a pre-season friendly at Taunton and all three have now made it at Championship level and above in one case.

Never give up must be their motto.

Given that Jones has come from the Championship and probably knows sweet FA about young French players, you can see him preferring to recruit some of the better Championship players and backing himself to turn them into  players.

Maybe they have a forward who could do with a loan to the Championship?  Might sweeten any deal

Who is the Jones that you are referring to?

Anyway, it's been an absolute privilege having Richard Gould in charge at Bristol City, and I'm gutted he's going.

A very good appointment, gets on with his job outside of the limelight, unlike previous incumbents. Arguably as big a loss as anyone on the playing staff at this stage.

Oh and I think we probably went to the same school….

So did I but left in 1960 so no chance of me knowing you and vice versa.

Simpson a stop gap, from what I've heard King has been a major part in setting the dressing room culture. Those are intangible benefits that we won't see as fans on the pitch, but its hard to argue that the atmosphere and work ethic of the squad is miles better than it has been since the Cup run under LJ

And that's the thing I've been most keen on Pearson remaining for a long time. The cultural changes he will bring. Professionalism and an end to the easy street atmosphere that has plagued this club for 90% of my life.

Yeah, it will take time to see the results change and it probably won't result in a charge to the Premier league, but its just nice to feel like we have a club that's being run correctly

Your first sentence doesn't surprise me. It was obvious in the couple or three years before Pearson arrived, that once again the senior players had developed a cosy "we do what we want to and when we want to". Hiding out of the way in training or just going through the training session without pushing themselves.

Footballers are a unique bunch. They respect those who have had lots of international caps and / or won trophies. Pearson as a solid defender who didn't have any caps and major trophies as a player, so to bring in Andy King who won 50 international caps and a Premier League medal as a player, was a very good move. He isn't the club captain but with his coaching and widespread knowledge, he is, I guess, helping to develop the dressing room togetherness. And probably teaching the young Academy boys a lot more than we did with Joe Bryan and Bobby de Codiova Reid.

Long may it continue and we may surprise many in the next two or three years how far we have gone.

  15. As a club, we have wasted the last thirty years. We have forgotten how managers like AD, TC and JJ built success by creating a very close team spirit where the players worked with and for each other.

We have a manager who is instilling a squad of players with the long known fact that in team games like football, rugby, cricket, it is not the super stars who win trophies. It's the work ethic and helping each other that separates the winners from the rest.

Back in the 1980's, a question was asked of a Liverpool manager. Who is you best defender? The reply was Ian Rush; he harries and presses the opposition to get the ball back so we don't let them attack us!

Football hasn't changed too much since then.

Much like Joe Bryan, who was often better going forward than defending, if we play 4-4-2, I would have Cam Pring as a left midfielder, with Dasilva behind him at left back, just as Bryan had Magnússon behind him during our best run under Johnson in 2017-18. Whether Nige would ever go 4-4-2 is another matter though.

Dasilva is not Magnússon! The Icelander was a proper defender whereas Dasilva is not a good defender. In fact where on the pitch is he worthy of a place in the team?

  17. The way he was greeted by NP when subbed, and a wave to the South Stand from the halfway line, could it be the end of his City career?

Not being pessimistic, just realistic. Actually I hope I'm talking a big load of rubbish.
