  1. You seem to have missed my phrase self serving. He's hardly going to say he failed (having already said he hadn't) and deserved to be sacked. I doubt Steve regrets it given GJ subsequently won promotion. And let's not forget one of the first things Steve told GJ to do was sort out the culture Wilson had enabled. Still, you have your view of Wilson as a success so by all means stick to it regardless.
  2. On the football part of what he says there are a number of inconsistencies between what he says and what he did but I'll just say this: Steve, we weren't balancing the books!
  3. Indeed, I didn't mean to imply he resigned but that he wasn't prepared to accept cuts that were necessary as a result of his failure. There was no way he could keep his job in the circumstances.
  4. Steve himself said budgets would need to be cut and staff let go. I wouldn't take too much notice of Wilson's self serving version. The man who said losing the play off final was not failure and who didn't even have Lita on the bench. So Wilson spends fortune but fails to meet his target = success. LJ spends fortune but fails to meet his target = failure?
  5. Yes, Wilson spent a fortune by League One standards (just think how much the £600k for Peacock would be in today's terms for instance) and failed to get promotion. He was told the budget would have to be cut and wasn't having it so off he went. GJ subsequently won promotion on a shoestring by comparison.
  6. He has long favoured a salary cap but it did not occur to him to cap our own salary budget. Instead he chose to allow Ashton to keep increasing costs and gambling that we would go on raising big money from an inflated transfer market to cover the extravagance. Practice what you preach Steve.
  7. And it's a bit pointless the club censoring the YouTube version when we all know what was said. So more a case of the usual ineptness than conspiracy then.
  8. I trust he had Steve's permission to say that! Still, one of the refreshing things about Nigel is that he doesn't feel obliged to say how great the Lansdowns are on a weekly basis.
  9. They fail to understand the difference between financial mismanagement (us among others) and outright cheating (them).
  10. A. If that means just for profit I agree. It's how you use it in a balanced way to improve the squad while protecting the finances. B. Agreed also, I don't much like Gould's special pleading on Covid, especially the spurious claim to include hypothetical transfer income we "lost". We screwed our own finances but Steve is not a man to admit he got it wrong. Though we need to bear in mind that Jordan and Steve were not exactly best buddies!
  11. Given that the EFL is the 72 clubs it's hard to see what it could be replaced by exactly. More revenge fantasies from Derby fans? Though if an independent regulator comes to pass that part of its role would pass over of course but there would still be a need for a board and executive for other purposes.
  12. What I would like to hear is an admission that we screwed up our finances ourselves before Covid had its impact. But that would require admitting that the Chairman failed to hold the Chief Executive to account. And if we are demanding retrospective changes to FFP to suit our ends I assume Derby will be allowed to restate their accounts for the relevant period again on the same basis.
  13. Sure but unlike you there were some seriously asking why he was subbed for one mistake.
  14. Fair comment if he was subbed for one mistake rather than his overall performance to that point.
  15. Thanks I obviously missed it.
  16. It's the Scottish Premiership.
  17. In the latest Price of Football podcast Kieran Maguire reckons Boro settled for a sum equal to the insurance value. Those on here with expertise may be able to explain exactly what this means. He also says that Wycombe's claim is more complicated as it involves the difference in TV money between the Championship and League 1, though it is not a big amount. He implies that Morris and Couhig have not spoken and has a dig at the Administrators for doing nothing and hoping it will just go away - while their people pick up £600 a day. Finally, he has spoken to people at Board level at EFL clubs who, unsurprisingly, won't be happy if Derby don't pay the full amount to HMRC when other clubs have taken out loans to pay their dues. We must be due another press release saying a preferred bidder will be named imminently surely?.?
  18. No, otherwise they would know the issue is usually with the interface between the chair and the keyboard.?
  19. Why? It's the kind of operational manager role you might find in any organisation. They won't be deciding where somebody's arm begins and ends for instance! Though if the required IT skills are limited to Office 365...?
  20. I expect our cost base to be reduced further next summer in any event. If push comes to shove we have sellable players. We could also receive a windfall from either Webster or Kelly, though we should not assume that of course. But if we breach then we will deservedly get a points deduction. Gould has acknowledged that we will take the hit as required. We won't attempt to drag it out for years either. Guilty of poor financial management? Yes, thanks to Steve giving Ashton control without oversight. The difference compared to Derby is that we won't have attempted to cheat the system and we won't be in administration.
  21. There's an interesting discussion on some of Pep's coaching methods on today's Guardian Football Weekly podcast btw. People like to say that football is a simple game but at the professional level it really isn't and hasn't been for a very long time!
  22. I certainly subscribe to the view that just adding a defender doesn't make you better at defending and I'm surprised that Nigel seems to think so. Kalas and Klose suit a back 4 better imo. If only we had a midfielder who was good at screening and dropping in between them though. Mind you, England conceded only 2 goals at the Euros, neither from open play!?
  23. I've always been a bit dubious of the claim too. It was the justification for twice extending Carey's contract when he wasn't actually playing much if at all but there was no evidence that having him as some kind of non-playing captain improved anything about the team that got relegated. Even if it worked we don't have the luxury of employing people just for that purpose if they are not making a significant contribution on the pitch.
  24. Rarely that simple from Pep. You rarely see a conventional back 4 from him for a start. For instance, sometimes he has both nominal full backs pushed into midfield. Other times Walker will be deeper and Cancelo is high up the pitch. All sorts of variations going on, sometimes in the same game.
  25. Good human is two words.?
