  1. So it seems, though the argument their fans are making is still essentially that they are special so the rules don't apply to them. Coincidentally an argument being used in political circles. Come to think of it Sue Gray is at a loose end at the moment, perhaps she could arbitrate??
  2. I assume they have been banned from the forum by now.
  3. The courts really don't like getting involved in the internal affairs of sporting bodies so I wouldn't hold out too much hope. Still, the High Court might find that the EFL regulations do not apply to Derby County on the novel legal grounds that Brian Clough used to be their manager perhaps.
  4. In the case of the Binnies, they would say that wouldn't they? Trying to force a deal As for Rooney, where does he think the money is going? It's towards funding the club in administration, where else? Does he not know the monthly cost of running the club? And shouldn't he ask the Administrators about that and proof of funding not the media?
  5. You're both right. As the great majority of goals are scored from inside the box it is a perfectly sensible measure. But as you say you also need to look at the quality. I recall Moyes at Man Utd bragging after one game that they got in a record number of crosses. It finished 0-0.
  6. Not like back in the day. Thanks to the penetrating questions asked we learned that every player in the country lived on a diet of steak and chips, lager and Phil Collins. Game's gone I tell you. ?
  7. "Forgive me Nigel for I have sinned... again"
  8. Some credit for the PFA though: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/feb/02/dawn-astle-dedicated-pfa-dementia-department
  9. I think it was the woman the Vicar of Dibley was based on who was said to have a fridge magnet that read: "Jesus loves you but I'm his favourite!"
  10. Apparently because Celtic weren't allocated any tickets for the away fixture.
  11. I just think it's such an important issue and that football still isn't doing enough. Why should people like Matt have to raise money rather than the leagues and/or the PFA providing what is needed for instance? I'm also with him on the need for proper concussion examinations being done away from the pitch to remove the pressure on all concerned to get it over with. Let's hope he, Nathan Baker and players affected at all levels don't suffer serious consequences and that they get the support they need.
  12. Close to home for us too, Matt Bloomfield speaks eloquently and emotionally about the effect of repeated head injuries in football and the need to take them even more seriously. https://www.theguardian.com/football/football-league-blog/2022/feb/02/wycombe-matt-bloomfield-retires-i-forget-simple-words-it-scares-me
  13. There is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents etc. .... ?
  14. Why corruption if it works in their favour? Posted this on the Derby thread: Crisis club Derby are set for a much-needed £1m windfall for young striker Luke Plange. Derby have accepted a bid from Crystal Palace for the 19-year-old, who joined the Rams in the summer after being released by Arsenal. Plange has impressed this term and scored Derby’s first goal in their memorable 2-2 comeback draw against Birmingham yesterday. However, the deal is attractive because Palace have agreed to loan Plange back to Derby for the remainder of the season. Although the Championship club are not allowed to register new players due to their current financial position, Football League rules allow Plange to stay on at Derby providing his wage stays the same

  16. But full of retired military chaps Major.?
  17. Sorry Dave but the Met have asked for your post to redacted in case it compromises their whitewash investigation.
  18. An update on this. Woman's conviction quashed: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jan/31/uk-woman-accused-making-up-cyprus-gang-claims-conviction-quashed
  19. I agree. I was just explaining the poster’s comment In that case we'll have to agree to agree.?
  20. The case may become sub judice once an arrest is made but I don't think discussing what is in the public domain prejudices proceedings. You wouldn't expect officers from the GMP to be commenting but I don't see that officers from elsewhere would be precluded. Though not in an official capacity of course.
  21. My point is he needed a mentor when he joined us not a bad influence like Ashton. An experienced Director of Football might have been ideal. The die is now cast so it's too late to change him now.
  22. To steal the line about N'Golo Kante, three quarters of the Earth's surface is covered by water. The rest is covered by Han Noah Massengo.
  23. From The Guardian: Manchester United said in a statement: “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media. We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.” Greater Manchester Police said they were “aware of images and video circulating on social media. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.” As you would expect at this stage.
  24. It was actually reported that he declined selection for recent England squads because he wanted to continue his development at Man Utd. As if international football wouldn't help his development. There have been hints of disciplinary issues at his club too so yes there always seemed to be a bit of doubt about him.
  25. Yes, the combination of him and Ashton was the problem. I posted elsewhere that things might have turned out differently if he had had an experienced mentor with a deep knowledge of the game as opposed to being led by a CEO who believes he is a football expert.
