I would'nt be surprised if this is true - I was thinking yesterday if they had signed someone already this week, then they probabaly could'nt unveil them until the concert was over - there would be to much going on for interviews etc.

I'm happy with this signing.

Bit like buying a second-hand car - without spending a fortune - if you buy a decent audi that was quality when was it was younger, it will still have lots of miles in it (and will be the business when you've polished it up and given it a bit of tlc), whereas buying a brand new (or demo) renault megane - **** car when new, and will always be a **** car! get my drift........ :noexpression:

Yippee! My pulse is really racing at this one! :noexpression:

Know where you're coming from mate, but I remember the signing of Marvellous Marv getting the bird on here as well and the Millwall lads gave him lousy press too.

Not the exciting signing aluded to, but could be another useful club in the golf bag that is BCFC.

Its probably beating at the same level as when we signed Adriano Basso and Marvin Elliott.

Very good point, and one not to be forgotten.

Trust GJ to unearth the rough diamonds and turn them into top players. With all the fanfare about trundle, sproule, vasko etc, who performed the best during the first half of the season? Elliott. Who's to say Williams is not our next superstar?

Anyone got a work friendly link to his history?

Quite right. The point in my thinking is that we should be in a better position now to attract a better quality of player than taking gambles on players like Elliott last season. Our reputation has been enhanced so in theory we should in a stronger position to attract a higher calibre player. I just don't think we can keep unearthing unknown gems like that forever.

The blokes got quality, of that there is no doubt, but how many games are we going to get from him to justify £300k+? I'm sure GJ knows what he's doing, just hope there's something more exciting in the pipeline than another ex-Yeovil player.

Calm down tiger. Cold showers for you today Tin.

None of that needed for me mucker! Half day and an afternoon on the golf course in the pipeline today! :winner_third_h4h:

Shame I'm in Peterboorugh, or I'd happily join you for a round. Where are you playing?

Looking like Clevedon at the moment but may go for a spin round Thornbury. Me and my Gash mate ain't decided yet.

Most reports today speak of about £100k - not much more than a tankful of petrol.

Wish I could join you. My scores on the par 3 have been improving with every round this summer!

Alas, my leg is still rather painful :surrender:

Have a good one.

I wasn't a golfer when I was growing up in Bristol, so can't say I know the courses. The only courses I've played down that way is the Players Club and Bowood out near Chippenham.

Always Thornbury, great par 3 course that is kept as well as their high course, mate of mine went to clevedon last week and had nothing but bad things to say about how poorly it was kept.

He sounds like someone to keep Brooker company on the treatment table.

He only played 14 games last season

Clevedon in bad nick? Can't believe it - meembers wouldn't stand for it!

Par 3 course? What's that all about then - less walking?

Cheers. My Gash mate beat me by one shot last week so I owe him one!

Bowood is an absolute beauty. I haven't played the Players but have heard that's a good un as well. Mendip Spring down Congesbury/Churchill way is personal favourite of mine, as is Tall Pines next to the Airport. Looks like we're playing Shire now anyway.

I'm off. Laters.

I don't think that a player is necessarily a gamble just because you or I or any other fan hasn't heard of them.

I doubt very much that GJ and PJ ever considered Elliott to be a gamble and I'd suggest that as long as Williams passes a fitness test given what they know of his ability the same applies.

I'd much rather us continually find players like Carle, Williams etc than spend £2m on someone who comes with a reputation and a big fat salary.

Besides, we need the cash for strikers.

Not really no; Audi's are like bone shakers. I have experienced greater comfort on a pogo stick.

On the other hand a Rover 75/MG ZT or, better still, an XJ Jag has a sublime ride :noexpression:

Well you could still get a game in at the course on Oundle Road or up at Thorpe Wood depending which hotel you're staying at. It's mid Summer, so they'll be open in the evening. Not sure if the driving range at Alwalton Show Ground (also near a hotel) is still open though.

Ah, but that's where the analogy (albeit tenuous anyway!) falls down - your audi (c/w slightly harder ride) is understated but quality (a bit like Marv), whereas your MG ZT is a decent motor, but a bit of a show pony (Nick who?). An XJ player you're always going to have to pay top dollar for - and not one you want to be taking a punt on + needs regular servicing (ie undoubted quality, but spends a lot of time off-road - injury prone).

Williams looks like the sort of motor you can get for a decent price, but you have to be confident that you can do most of the work on it yourself (enter GJ's prior knowledge), and you don't mind getting the bus occassionally (niggles). The attitude thing - as long as it isn't disruptive then he can keep his furry dice!

Sweet little course - an oasis of calm........... extremely fussy about dress code etc though, so watch yourself!

Used to be a junior member years and years and years and years ago (I was coached by Gordon Brand snr and then Gordon Brand jnr), my god they are up themselves, you would have thought it was Sunningdale. Mangotsfield was probably the friendliest local club, Bristol & Clifton the worse.

Furry Dice you say... that would be a modern day Escort or Chevette then?.. I had a chevette once. nasty little thing in all apsects except reliability although after doing 4,000 miles around europe the alternator packed up between Reading and Swindon on the way home. We wouldn't want Williams to run the length of the pitch and miss at point blank range.

Now, as for the MG-ZT - i would suggest the V8 260 variety is no show pony but more a rocket that looks like a steam engine to deceive.. little bit like Arshavin. Now we are talking.

Audi... Michael Ballack.. likely to be reliable but once in a while conks out or throws a tantrum for absolutely no rhyme nor reason and, lets face it, Ballack has a face that looks like he sat on a Pogo Stick as a spotty faced kid in Munchen.

p.s. almost bought a house in Sunningdale once... great golf courses around your neck of the woods.

heard last night at the bon jovi concert from a very reliable source within the club that we will be announcing first new signing today around midday, this is genuine but he wouldn't say who it was.

Neil Danns, I believe...... Well....at least that's who's (allegedly) on his way here should the Carle move complete. I understand that the Williams deal will happen regardless, but Danns does depend on Carle signing for Palace as this will be his direct replacement.

Interesting shout. Only played a couple of games for Palace after signing in January because of a persistent groin injury. Sounds about right. We like to keep our physios busy.

I've lived near Peterborough for over 20 years and am a member at Thorpe Wood. Played there early this week in fact and played to handicap for a change.

The driving range is till open although I did hear rumours that it needs to relocate has been struggling to find a new location.

Why can't people only post "i've heard" stuff when it's from a premium brand of red source??

Ipswich midfielder Gavin Williams has been told that he has no future with the Portman Road club.

Wales international Williams made just 11 starts for the Tractor Boys last season after his £300,000 move from West Ham in January 2006.

Manager Jim Magilton admitted that Williams had failed to do enough to convince the club that they should persevere with his services.

Unfulfilled potential

Magilton told the club's official website: "There are still bits and pieces to be done but it looks as though Gavin will be on his way.

"It was inevitable that Gavin needed to move on to further his career.

"When he was good, he was very good but we never saw enough of that here and I think you could say he has unfulfilled potential.

"Injuries hampered his career at Ipswich but if he can get a run of games going then maybe someone will see the best of him."
