I too am starting to think this is going ahead due to the sheer number of sources that have reported on it. When we signed Maynard the same thing happened and then the transfer went through the next day. :fingerscrossed:

I'm sure the deal is done. Ferguson has said he's picked us, and there's no reason why he'd lie. It'll be on the OS by the end of the day.

Trouble is as some of the reports have suggested it is dependant on all of the Ebbsfleet owners voting yes for it to happen. Saying that if they say no the lad is going to be mighty pi$$ed off.

We will have to be patient with this sale. Steve has signed the contract for City, but Ebbsfleet have got to get 30,000 signatures on their bit.

Are there any videos of this lad

Only seen an interview http://www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk/content/view/843/2/

Some talk on him here:

http://fleetwiki.bluebones.net/John_Akinde

Thread on his possible sale here:

http://www.cardsboard.co.uk/index.mpl?acti...mp;thread=39199

And from February on Crawley Town's website:

"Ebbsfleet United striker John Akinde dominated a make shift defence, and on this showing it is easy to see why a host of Premier League and Championship scouts flooded to the Broadfield to check on the 18-year-old."

(the words "conflict of interest" come to mind)

When does the vote end?

Just checked, 7pm tonight. Although the forums are all saying he has gone / will go.

If they are anything to go by, most people claim to have voted yes.

Thanks

Looks like we will have to wait till tomorrow for this one to be announced if we have to wait for the vote to close.

Although it's not very reliable i know, theres a rumour going around on 606 that we've had a

bid accepted for James Scowcroft. :noexpression:

If they vote in favour of selling him possibly he could be unveiled on the pitch tomorrow like Betsy way. If this is us then I'm actually excited about it. GJ looks like he is building a strike force for the future. Maynard as the pacy striker and this guy as the target man. They could potentially develop there careers together and would compliment each other.

I'm sure many of you have found their forum, but for those who've not.

interesting reading actually.

Its not much to go on, but they say hes the best prospect ever to come from Ebbsfleet.

Hes an out and out target man, hard worker, brave, can find space, good first touch and has great passing range.

for 140k its worth a punt, hes the your typical GJ ytype player me thinks, great attutude. Hope we get him.

John is a product of the club's Conference Youth League squad and progressed into first-team contention with a number of decent showings in Kent Senior Cup games. An 18-year-old striker, he is a strong and promising youngster. An eye for goal, added to a turn of pace and ability to outmuscle even those defenders with a lot more experience than himself, make him a superb prospect for the future.

Having played on loan for Margate and Whistable Town, he was recalled to the Fleet and made an explosive start to his career, earning plaudits from far and wide. As a result, the club offered him a contract which takes him to the end of the 2008-09 season but another fine performace when in the spotlight at Wembley has meant a host of League scouts flocking to Stonebridge Road and media talk of big-money offers from interested clubs.

A bit about him...

It's a gamble, probably around £100k's worth

19 year old - watched by the likes of Chelsea amongst other clubs so they probably have seen a bit of him.

Why not?

Agree. Its a gamble. But me like many others think we should have been better concentrating on signing a midfilder and/or defender rather than a raw, unknown, unproved striker.

Fair bit actually. :pacifier: He's definetely better than Spaz Cabbage, but nothing to write home about IMO (of course).

How old was Savage when we signed him?

I've not seen anything of Akinde so if you're seen a bit of him then can you confirm that he's fairly pacy and good with his feet?

Hopefully a raw talent that we can get the best out of.

I'm feeling optomistic tonight :)

140k + sell on for someone who reckon will be either now or soon ready to affect the game at this level. If it comes off it's a bargain.

I have faith in the scouting/management team to spot talent. Big, pacey, skillful, players with a work ethic are very rare. That's why we have a 33 year old up front.

I am with you there - bit of a surprise too, hopefully shows that we have quite a diverse scouting network, but like you I think we could do with a creative midfielder and some defensive/left back cover

sorry if already posted but it appears members (including me ) have voted to sell in landslide 82%

doesnt confirm city though

from myfootballclub website

Members approve Akinde transfer

82% give CEO green light to progress the deal

published : 18:35 by MyFC_Web_Team

The deadline for members to have their say on the £140,000-plus offer for John Akinde has passed. Club CEO David Davis commented:

"The offer for John Akinde was presented to the owners of Ebbsfleet United on Wednesday evening. 48 hours later, 82.3% of 7,452 members who voted said the club should accept the offer for John Akinde.

Myself and the Chairman have therefore been given clear instruction to go ahead and carry out the supporters' wishes. Without this majority, the deal would not have proceeded.

We do not foresee any problems, however, we cannot comment further until all the necessary steps have been taken to conclude the transfer in an appropriate manner."

i really hope this is true

i think it could be a great signing on so many levels

as someone who thinks adebola brings a hell of a lot to our side he could be a long term replacement and at least a like for like if dele picks up a knock

we wont expect him to go straight into the team at 19, and id imagine brooker would still take the bench in front of him.

he prob wont mind biding his time a little as he is so young, so no worry of him demanding a place.

at only 150k thats the kind of gamble we can probably afford to take now on potential rather than proven players

could form a good long term partnership with maynard, and possibly even with plummer in reserves when he comes back.

From a footballing perspective it would make sense for him not to come to City.

Mind you, remind him that by signing for us he could be be on the books of a Premier League team by May and he's gotta be tempted.

Play in the City reserves for a year or get first team football with Mr P Borough.

I thought Posh had a good strike force themselves.I don't think he would have walked in to their team either. It'sa great chance to develop at a higher level and learn from Dele Adebola.Sounds a good signing if it does happen.

If he is a good prospect for the future lets bring him in I say. Keep around the club until Xmas and give him the 2nd half of the season on loan at a Lge 1 club who create chances.

A few players who have come from similar backgrounds to Akindi include the likes of Kightly, Eastwood, McClean, Mackail-Smith, Basso, Fleetwood (not that he's played yet)...

We really don't need an unproven raw atriker like akinde, he is every thing i hate in a striker big clumbsy and just bumbles his way through defenders.

I thought we had got away from this type of striker when we sold savage :noexpression:

Can he moonwalk then?

I can't believe that people are excited by this possible transfer. He's a good player for the league he's in but thats about it. The Championship is a league far too high for him and unless he improves remarkably from the times I've seen him play then he will be crucified in this league. He has a poor first touch, cant pass and is an all round lazy footballer.

People on this forum think Trundle can't cut it in the Championship, well, if he cant then Akinde definetely cant and he'll get slated on this forum alone.

Yes. Ive saw him live against torquay at wembley and also against stafford rangers, he is bug clumbsy and seems to just get in the way.

Far enuff if GJ has seen something in him then i trust his judgement, however from my point of view he just seemed the type of striker i thought we had moved on from.

I saw Akinde play for Ebbsfleet at Rushden a couple of weeks ago. He came on as a sub for 15 minutes or so. First thing he did was clatter a defender then I can't remember him touching the ball for the rest of the game. Wasn't impressed to say the least.

Having said that, I trust GJ, and if he see's something in him then fair enough. Cant say that GJ has the best track record when it comes to signing strikers though. :10_1_108:

I love this forum at times. One or two have seen an 18 year old play a couple of times or seen 15 minutes of television footage and they are immediately qualified to offer the opinion that the lad is useless. You should go and have a word with Steve Lansdown, Peter Kenyon, Pete Borough, Millwall's Chairman and anyone else whose Manager or Chief Scout, clearly not having half the football brain, eye or knowledge that you have, has scouted a player who is clearly a total waste of space!!!

It's just a thought but perhaps, if we do end up with this lad, we are investing a sum of money in potential rather than immediate gain? I would imagine give the boy half a season to learn from an experienced pro like Adebola, with a couple of bench appearances maybe thrown in, and assuming he is still raw at that stage we have the ideal opportunity in the next transfer window to send him on loan to a League 2 side or perhaps Cheltenham.

"He said it was a football decision based purely on the chance to play at a higher level.

Which suggests the player is coming to us for the right reasons and (presumably) increased pay will be a bonus, unlike Mifsud who was only after the cash. Yes Posh have been after Akinde for some time, but were possibly delaying a bid in the hope Ebbsfleet would drop their price as the closing of the transfer window approached.

Agreed - you have to think that the people who have clearly been interested in the young man know a bit more about the game than us 'experts' - Peterborough ain't exactly going backwards are they?

If this happens, I think it's the right sort of signing - I don't think GJ is that great on the big money buys, but picking up youngsters - top notch so far.

I agree totally, I/we are not experts on young talent however football is a harsh game and we the fans want to see instant sucees, its all well and go saying yeah lets buy him train him up etc etc, but the fact is we need another target man to be ready to play know.

I deffinetly think he is worth a punt, but we need IMO another CF ready to play know, otherwise we have got rid of enoch and byfield and only replaced one of them with Maynard.

I personally would like to see a 25/26 year old target man brought in along side akinde (who can gain experience and go out on loan etc) and also another midfielder.
