Finding It Hard To Get Excited.

I just can't seem to get any enthusiasm going about tomorrows game at Pompey. To me the league is everything and I diligently follow all the news both on the main site, World and in the press when a league game is the next fixture.

This week I've not bothered to listen Johnson's preview on World nor read any Pompey related articles in the press. I do obviously look out for any City related transfer activity but don't expect any thing concrete there to happen until next week at the earliest.

Obviously I want to City to avoid defeat at Pompey as any positive result is good for player confidence which can carry on into the next league fixture. Even a replay is good news as its all dosh in the City coffers and another evening match to go along to. That said I won't be as depressed and fed up as I would normally be if City lose tomorrow.

I know that if City win tomorrow I'll be delighted but wishing that it had been a league game as it would have meant another 3 points.....

Dunno if anyone else feels the same way.

If you're having trouble getting excited - try some Viagra - apparently it can be bought online - should be enough to get you going.

Hmmm....football and sex. You might think that they are the same thing but I don't.

Some good points there robbered, i personally want city to win in any game there playing in obviously (same as you I'm sure) howerve i remember last season when we lost 1-2 at home to boro i thought to myself thats prob a blessing at least we can crack on with the league......for mr the league is everything and i'm not sure we presently have the squad to have a long cup run and a charge up the league??? and given the choice i'd much rather make the play off's again.....but hey i shall be there tomorrow supporting the boys.

What?! :disapointed2se:

3000 city fans, the biggest away following of the season, against a team in the Premier League, the place we want to be...a great way of seeing if we are good enough, Defoe is now out, no-one apart from city fans seem to think it will be an upset... they've done crap the past 4 games, we've finally got our game back with 2 great wins....how can there not be any excitement?! This could be a memorable victory, one we could remember for the rest of our lives!

Robbored, you always seem to be a boring one and subdued to say the least, but you've just gone down an extra level with this one.

Come on you reds!

I understand where you're coming from.

The league is very much top priority in my eyes. Clubs like ours really fall into the romantic abyss when it comes to the cup. Whilst ties against the 'big 4' are golden, the reality is that we are in a position where a Premier league draw fails to especially excite, whilst we are safe in the knowledge that we are highly unlikely to reach the latter stages.

I'm personally looking forward to tomorrow as Pompey will be fielding an under-strength side (no Johnson or Defoe for starters) as many of their players are subject to speculation and as such not willing to be cup tied.

I really quite fancy an upset tomorrow and, either way, our glorious undefeated run of 2 wins on the trot is safe for another weekend!

I guess the FA Cup just doesn't hold the magic for me that it used to. As far as I'm concerned its not that important and interrupts the all important league programme. I worry that one of out players will get an injury that keeps him out for a few games.

I don't remember the last time I actually sat and watched the FA Cup final on TV - or one of the semi's either.

I see were your coming from but i think a lot of city fans arnt excited due to the fact that over the past year or so we have been in huge play off games and other big games agaisnt the likes of Wolves Charlton etc. I can remember the first time we played Boro at home and everyone was going mental just beacuse the likes of Stewart Downing were down the gate. Know that we were in touching distance of playing the likes of Pompy week in week out i think the whole playing a prem team excitment has gone away beacuse we are playing a better standard of football.

For me and a lot of fans i know playing a premeriership team knowadays isnt the same as when we were in league one playing the likes of Brentford week in week out. I think it shows how far we have come since the first time we played Boro in 2007.

I think its more about the opposition - I know they are cup holders but not like a trip to Old Trafford, Anfield or Stamford Bridge is it..

Hard to think of a less inspiring venue for a Prem club to be honest - maybe a half empty Ewood Park..

Fratton Park has one of the best atmospheres in the football league

My mate went last season to watch a game and said it was like nothing else the way the Pompey fans get behind the team

I'm looking forward to it meself. You reds!!

i also love the fa cup but can,t get excited by it this year. i think part of the problem has been the transfer over to setanta so we have not had the usuall sky coverage. and before someone says why don,t i get setanta no i will have one or the other not both so as long as the league is on sky i,ll keep with them

Understand what you're saying about the noise, but it's still a shithouse with a 19000 capacity - Stoke is officially the noisiest crowd in the Prem I believe yet I can't imagine much excitement had we drawn them either.

Probably Hull and West Brom would be equally uninspiring because we were there only a year ago.

All i'm saying is, that having drawn a Prem side away, we could have done a lot better and maybe that's why some people aren't that excited.

well i personally cant wait, getting up nice and early to meet the lads for a brekkie before setting off on the 9.24 train. Loads of beer and a good atmosphere and if we win great and if we lose who cares? It will be nice to watch City for a change and not feel any pressure!

Well if this Eastern European signs in time to make an appearance, then it could be like Jacki arriving for our 3rd round tie against Leicester away all those years back. Agree the cup has lost some of its nostalgia over the years though.

So I take it your not going down there then? How come you were so full of praise for Rovers play off final victory yet you can't get excited for a massive City game? Championship clubs have gone in at round 3 for as long as I can remember so it's hardly a disruption is it? However if both us and Plymouth lose I can see our game against them being brought forward to the Saturday which I'm sure the Police wouldn't like.

If we manage to cause a massive upset and go through and get one of the top 4 I assume you would also fail to get excited about that game?

I want to see BCFC test themselves against the best and us they currently are the Fa Cup holders and sit in 12th place in the best league in the world I personally can't wait for tomorrow and seeing City attempt to turn them over in there own back yard.

'cause i was lazy and we were playing crap when the tickets went on sale I thought "can't be bothered" it's only the cup, and one-song away is not the most glamorous tie. :noexpression:

Then I changed my mind, but by then we had sold out.

However a call to the club earleir this week asking if they had any returns has paid off. Got a phone call this morning, they had a return and down I went to collect.

A word of warning though, I only normally do a few away games each season and haven't seen 'um win since Torquay in the fog!! :fingerscrossed::pray:

Just a question, but would it hold the same magic if we 'did a Cardiff' and got to th semi or even the final....I guess it would excite you then ??

At this stage it's just another game to pick up bookings and injuries, and we don't have a large enough squad for that, so i tend to agree with the original post. But IF we got as far as semi's, then i guess that would be a whole new ball game! But for me, league is everything!

Undoubtedly it would. Being just one game from the FA Cup final would excite anyone, but I won't be holding my breath about City getting that far.

Don't you get terrestial TV !?

Gone from Beeb to ITV. Remains to be seen whether the chaps at ITV do as good a job as Lineker & Co.

Really excited by tomorrow as we'll win 2-1. Get your money on.

I feel exactly the same on this matter.

In fact after the Burnley game i went back to the pub with the same lads i always go home and away with and discussed the Pompey game and who was going to go down and get the tickets, and no one really seemed very interested.

When i mentioned i was going to drive to Doncaster the following week i had a much more positive response, needless to say theres a full car going North next saturday.

I love the FA Cup. 3,000 away following and many more who can't get tickets but wanted to go suggests people do care about this one.

If we beat Pompey and draw your beloved Arsenal in the next round Robbo you'll be the first one down the Gate queing to get tickets!

I can't wait! I've been looking forward to this one for weeks, especially now as we've picked up a couple of good results.

If you can't get excited for a match like this then theres something wrong with you.

It's going to be a brilliant atmosphere tomorrow and 3,000 city fans will silence the Pompey chimes!

Oh yes, that was a day to remember, stuck in traffic getting out of leicester, city fans dancing on the dual carriageway, a fantastic day that i'll never forget.

I remember the away terrace in the corner non stop singing "Brian Little makes love to the Indian Community" for the whole of the second half.

A real stand out away day.

I had a simple choice to make which was EITHER Portsmouth OR Doncaster. Along with you and your mates I chose Donny!!!

As it happens I've been bored rigid by this season until just recently and I think a Cup run would be just the ticket for lighting a fire under the squad ... forget all the "concentrate on the league" bolleaux ... "concentrate on winning" is what I want.

I'm in the same boat as you to be honest. I'd rather there be no replay though no matter what the final result is. The FA Cup to be is a bit of a distraction from the league campaign that we've just started to pick up on so this game has come at just the wrong time.

When you're on a role keeping the momentum going is vital...Thus extra emphasis is added to the game...

Also for the many/few of us that are aware this is the 100th anniversary of our only FA Cup final appearance so another good run would be nice :winner_third_h4h:
