Back in the dark distant past when we got promoted to this division, there were very few expectations ! Most people would have been happy with survival !

We looked at our opponents with expensively assembled large squads and feared we may take a few beatings. Our relatively small squad full of largely unproven players at this level was not expected to pull up many trees !

The reality was though, that when our tight unit came up against these so called big teams full of supposed big names and ex prem players, we competed and ended up being better than all but three of those teams !!

Back then we were limited to playing 451 or 442 and didnt really deviate from the same 18/20 players all season !!

Now two years later I feel we are like those teams we came up against in our first season, we have a large unbalanced squad, general confusion about what formation to play and what the best 11 is !!

Are we any better than 2 years ago ?

We aint really lost any players we didnt choose to let go in the first place, apart from age catching up with a few and injuries taking their toll, does it suggest that the league is stronger now ?

its a mixture of the 2 really as our team is much stronger on paper but players are being played out of position and the championship is very tight and inconsistent as many teams have improved. The likes of qpr used to be a low spending side who struggled each season, just goes to show MONEY is the key word in football.

I think we only appear to be average at the moment because of tactics, the quality of the squad has improved. I think that we have looked a bit lost at times when things arn't working out! If that happens too often then confidence goes a bit which can make all the difference. When the players that we have and the gaffer find the right tactics the ability is there to challenge for the playoffs. Obviously a left good winger in January would give us some better formation options. There will be more twist and turns for sure! You Redz.
