beaverface
David James signing for us would help us out three fold. 1. A very experienced and still useful goalkeeper for another 1 (maybe) 2 seasons. 2. Gerkin and Henderson will learn off the England #1. 3. Hopefully it will snowball other big name signings to come our way.

We have far greater priorities in terms of signings, we are losing about £10 million a season, and I don't want to go through an '82 style collapse again. These unaffordable signings are far more likely to lead to a winding-up order than the Premier League.

Sounds just like it! I'm still not convinced, but it wasn't a very Coppell-esque chuckle I wouldn't have thought. Apart from that he sounds down right p***ed off as others have said. When asked if SL was being to dilligent with the cash he took a good few seconds to say, "errrr, no I don't think so". Think he really was expected a greater pot. Still he's proven in the past he can do great things with small name players. Come on you REDS!!! Edited July 29, 2010 by rudecowboy

Somerset_Sam
Colin or Steve I would imagine Yep Colin has been distracted by the stadium issue, and SL has been out of the country. At Reading he had Nicky Hammond to do the deals who focused only on the football side of things, so it is no wonder we have not been concluding deals

Roger Red Hat
City don't pay a basic above £10k/pw as far as I know. I can't see us offering anything like double that. James will be offered a large signing on fee and coupled with our location, Coppell will be hoping he'll come. City 'DIDN'T' pay a basic above £10k/pw, maybe they are prepared to now, in order to attract higher calibre players to enable us to move on up. I don't actually know if your 10k figure is right or wrong, by the way.

Guest Stoke Gifford Red
If that was true, the 7/4 with Blue Square would be long dead. The betting activity has been; [url=http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/david-james-specials/club-after-summer-transfer-window/bet-history/bristol-city]2010-07-295/610/116/411/87/422010-07-284 That is our graph above, so this morning he was 2/1 having been 4s yesterday, we are now odds on. Sunderland are 7/4, I can't get up their script for some reason, but they have been drifting all day, so I can't believe for one minute he has sound for them. check out the thread titled 'james & Fulop' adds an insight into what they are saying.. apparently they are only prepared to offer him a 6 month deal 'apparently' they dont hold out much hope on him going to them... http://www.readytogo.net/smb/forumdisplay.php?f=

The Casual Connoisseur
Ok I wasn't going to share this but David James went out with an associate of mine (Cardiff) called Clare who is now an estate agent who I see time from time, she told me absolutely nothing at all. On another even less interesting note I saw Christian Roberts twice today an yesterday I noticed that Bobby Robsons son bares an uncanny resemblence to his late father. ......oh and I just saw a Ginger teenager with varifoal reactor glasses sporting a yellow Cardiff City shirt, oh my eyes...... Just thought that I would add some more completely irrelevant and ridiculous twaddle to the rest.
