David James

David James signing for us would help us out three fold.

1. A very experienced and still useful goalkeeper for another 1 (maybe) 2 seasons.

2. Gerkin and Henderson will learn off the England #1.

3. Hopefully it will snowball other big name signings to come our way.

I would find a Porsche and a luxury holiday useful, but I can't afford them! We have far greater priorities in terms of signings, we are losing about £10 million a season, and I don't want to go through an '82 style collapse again. These unaffordable signings are far more likely to lead to a winding-up order than the Premier League.

Take a listen to this interview with SC on the BBC site:

Coppell re James

Nothing earth shattering there ... but listen to that nervous laugh at the end ... isn't that the chuckle of a man who wants to let the cat out of the bag, but knows he can't just yet?

Sounds just like it! I'm still not convinced, but it wasn't a very Coppell-esque chuckle I wouldn't have thought. Apart from that he sounds down right p***ed off as others have said. When asked if SL was being to dilligent with the cash he took a good few seconds to say, "errrr, no I don't think so". Think he really was expected a greater pot. Still he's proven in the past he can do great things with small name players. Come on you REDS!!!

in that interview SC says it's not his role to negotiate on finances & wages etc.. Who's role is it?

Colin or Steve I would imagine

Yep

Colin has been distracted by the stadium issue, and SL has been out of the country.

At Reading he had Nicky Hammond to do the deals who focused only on the football side of things, so it is no wonder we have not been concluding deals

Make that four-fold!

Should put more 'bums-on-seats' too! Increased ticket sales! Should cover any increased wage payments they need to make to him ;)

I don't think for a second he wil sign for us, but it's certainly nice to see us mentioned alongside (or indeed, ahead of) clubs like that.

Just got to hope with it :) each club offers different things for him:

Us: he can stay in exeter/ doesn't have to move his family

Sunderland: Prem football and first choice ****il Gordon heals)

Celtic: Europe although in extreme long shot to progress

It's down to what he wants to do, whether that be just playing or getting a big wages in the prem....

Dont shoot the messenger......and certainly not confirmed yet but....looks like he's gone to Sunderland.

http://www.whoateall...rland-deal.html

Doubt he will announce anything until after Saturday because he is owed in region of £140k from Pompey. Apparently if he finds a new club before then he is not entitled to payment for some reason.

:chant6ez:City now into 5/6 Favs. :chant6ez:

Taking betting advice from a bookie, surely thats like seeking planning reccomendation from an archetect.

Seriously though, surely its in theyre favour to make us favourites if they think he will never come here. We see the odds falling, think they know something we don't, and reckon he's coming here. Fans put their money on

So it makes sense for them to make sort odds for the least likely contender. I'm just downright confused by betting though.

So Im guessing then that after another day of speculation and chatter nobody is any wiser with regards to David James and where he is going to end up?

Or any other potential signings for that matter. Seems like this is going to be a slow end to the week!

David James is too old!! I would prefer to sign someone younger and fitter and commit their future to the club! I would honestly prefer Gerken as number 1.

Are you seriously suggesting that 2000 extra people will turn up just to see David James? as much as I would love this rumour to be true I cant see us improving on last years average gate unless we are pushing for promotion between Christmas and the end of the season.

City don't pay a basic above £10k/pw as far as I know. I can't see us offering anything like double that. James will be offered a large signing on fee and coupled with our location, Coppell will be hoping he'll come.

City 'DIDN'T' pay a basic above £10k/pw, maybe they are prepared to now, in order to attract higher calibre players to enable us to move on up. I don't actually know if your 10k figure is right or wrong, by the way.

Girl can dream can't she?

On a more serious note, would be good in City's goal though.

Hoping for some news soon, but think that is a dream also.

If that was true, the 7/4 with Blue Square would be long dead.

The betting activity has been;

5/6

That is our graph above, so this morning he was 2/1 having been 4s yesterday, we are now odds on. Sunderland are 7/4, I can't get up their script for some reason, but they have been drifting all day, so I can't believe for one minute he has sound for them.

check out the thread titled 'james & Fulop' adds an insight into what they are saying.. apparently they are only prepared to offer him a 6 month deal 'apparently' they dont hold out much hope on him going to them...

Whilst I would be pleased if James did come there will be one player who wouldnt be.

Gerken, how many points did he save us last season and now theres a prospect of him suddenley becoming a back up who will play Carling Cup and the odd game when James gets injured.

he was only ever backup though. Not a ba player, but if we started the season with Gerken I would cry.

Ok I wasn't going to share this but David James went out with an associate of mine (Cardiff) called Clare who is now an estate agent who I see time from time, she told me absolutely nothing at all.

On another even less interesting note I saw Christian Roberts twice today an yesterday I noticed that Bobby Robsons son bares an uncanny resemblence to his late father.

......oh and I just saw a Ginger teenager with varifoal reactor glasses sporting a yellow Cardiff City shirt, oh my eyes......

Just thought that I would add some more completely irrelevant and ridiculous twaddle to the rest.

No I think both of our Goalkeepers would relish the chance to work with someone like James because of the experience and knowledge he would be able to pass on to them.

I have been informed by a member at the club that David James is arriving at ashton gate tomorrow to negotiate a contract and possibly a medical. You could either believe me or take it with a pinch of salt. Just what i have been informed.

Just looked on sky bet City are now 1/2 favorites to Sign him. This is unreal if we pull this one off it will be the biggest signing to join the club since Ive been supporting City and thats over 20 years.

There is that, especially for Hendo but I'm not convinced it will help Gerken that much. He's been in football for a long time and whilst he will learn the odd thing off James I think he'd rather be playing.

In the unlikely event that we sign DJ (IMO), I would imagine that one of the above will probably be loaned out.

Something like this would be impossible to keep secret, so I am happy to believe this one. It proves that James must be considering us, IF he is arriving at the gate tommorow, because if he wasn't, then he would have told his agent to tell us to get real.
