Q & A Session Tonight

REBS14

Recommended Posts

The publicised Question and answer session with del, Colin sexstone and Guy price tonight sounds as though it could be an interesting night.

Anyone thinking of going? it starts at 7 and limited to 900. I wondered if it was worth going down early due to the limitation on numbers and if anyone thinks it could be a long night?

Trying to make my mind up have a chance of overtime or would it be really worth the trip down the gate ??

 I'm actually starting to worry, this could be the shortest q&a ever there is still no more than 60 people in here and is 18:50 and it looks even worse cause they have put out so many chairs, on another note £2.20 for a little bottle of coke :(

60 questions could take quite a while..................... don't miss the opportunity to ask one.

You can ask mine if you're struggling.wink.gif

I was going but the water main at the end of my road has burst and I can't get the car out! :ranting:

If you need another question, ask Del what his long term aspirations are for us both with a new stadium and without please?

I have noticed that Del has never mentioned the potential of the new stadium and I would be genuinely intrigued by his answer.

Ta.

DM knows nothing about Brett rumours? He is staying as very much on plans, he does feel sorry for him, and I get the feeling that once we are up the league he and nm will start together as a front 2

NTB I can assure you he isn't going any where we even got applauded for the question and answer

Derek: "Brett Pitman is happy here. Big fan of his. He's suffered because of the system and he's had to be patient." #BristolCityBrett's a terrific finisher and he's going nowhere."

All sounds good to me - Del obviously rates him very highly and intends to play him when circumstances/system allows.

Del's assurance that BP is happy at BCFC and that he's going nowhere is particularly good to hear.

DM we have no specialist free kick taker at the club

I'm amazed that this part of the club hasn't been rectified.........haven't had a specialist since Hartley.......some clubs have 2 or 3.

Glad DMC has identified this HUGE weakness.

Since I only live 5 minutes down the road, I thought I'd pop along. Disappointed to only see about 80 people there in total and at first I thought it was only gonna last a few minutes as there was an initial reluctance for questions. But we got into full swing and in the end it lasted for about 80 minutes (much like City's defence under Millen!!)

I must say that I was hugely impressed with Derek (we were all being polite and referring to him in this way, rather than Del...or God!)

He said all the right things and was very open and honest. As said earlier, probably only really dodged the James question.

Also a good amount of humour in there too, in particular with reference to the Watford goal which brought a rather amusing comment about it not being a Scottish goalkeeper! Also joked when asked about 20 minutes in about the Maynard situation. DM quipped that he'd just lost a bet as he thought that was guaranteed to be the first question. Another quick witted remark when CS was talking about the stadium, DM joked that he was promised in his interview that we'd be ready to move in next season!!!

DM also joked when asked about what date the Ghana squad is due to be announced, and said he'd spoken to Albert, who to be fair to him, didn't have a clue!! Interesting to note that he is looking for a back-up plan if he does get called up.

I did one of my friends a favour by asking Derek about his analysis of matches and of players, and whether he uses his own and his staff's judgement and observations, or whether he holds a reliance on Prozone? I was very pleased with his answer that his eyes are the best judge and that although he does use Prozone he acknowledges that stats can often lie. He referenced our possession stats v Burnley and Barnsley, where we had less of the ball than our opponents, but we used it wisely in the right area's. Similarly at Millwall, he said he was happy for them to have possession in certain area's of the pitch as we could assert pressure without the ball.

Mentioned that it would be nice to get a cup run going, breeds confidence etc, but that visiting a team who are playing well, in whatever division, is always a test. However, we will be going down there as a team playing well and we're not taking it lightly and will be gunning for the win.

Questioned on the state of the reserve team football (or lack of it) that we currently play, he mentioned that it is something we need to try to rectify and that lads in the academy must try to get the best opponents they can, hence trying to get a lot of them loaned out. There's no point them standing out in a poor league, they need the challenge of stepping up to better and more competitive football. If you're 19-20 years old and not making your way in the game already, then you're likely to make your way out of it. He referenced his time as a youth at Morton (I think it was), where he stepped up to play against Celtic, who had the likes of Mick McCarthy up against him. That game made DM realise that he still had a long way to go to make it in the game.

Commented how amazing it was that 1800 turned up at Watford. Says it gives him and the players a real buzz and sense of purpose seeing so many turn up, and commented that the fans have been great.

Noted that we don't have a specialist free-kick taker, and it is something we need to work on, although again he joked that Tony Docherty was in charge of set-pieces so it's down to him!!

All in all, he said all the right things, has a good sense of humour, isn't getting carried away by the good start he's made, and is massively focused on making sure we stay in this league and push on. If there wasn't beforehand, there was a hell of a lot of man-love in the room by the end. :aok2:

Enjoyed the Q AND A session thought it was a good laugh too. Shame there wasnt many there but to see both Manchester clubs go out of Europe must have been good to watch! I got in a couple of Q which i was happy with all the answers i got back. I laughed at the Del boy, Uncle albert and are we signing Trotter from Millwall was amusing. Spoke to him breifly after and a picture what a top man! Up the City! :englandsmile4wf:

Good post, so happy Del is in charge of our football club. Him and Tony will take us places I have no fear as I predicted the minute his name was linked with the job.

Must admit listening to McInnes tonight was so different to Johnson you wouldn't guess they were talking about the same sport!

I don't want it to sound like I'm critising GJ in any way and I'm certainly not taking anything away from what he achieved here, but McInnes really does appear to know the game inside out. The way he talked about our tactics against Boro and how we were trying to counteract the way they set up was very interesting. We finally have a manager that you think 'yeah he definitely knows more about football than I do', which as well as Gary did, wasn't always the case after listening to Johnson. And certainly wasn't the case with some previous managers that I won't mention! Similarly the way he talked about how happy he was that Millwall, Burnley and Barnsley had more possesion than us, because our game plan was built around letting them have the ball in pointless areas and dragging them out so we could then hit them on the counter.

Similar to what Nogbad was saying earlier in the thread, as a massive fan of Pitman, I too was also interested into what his opinion on Brett is and I'm glad someone asked it. The answer was pretty clear, Brett is going nowhere, he rates Brett very highly as a player and also thinks he is a 'top quality lad'. He feels Brett has been the most unfortunate player since he has came here, and although he usually likes to go with two up top, he has had to play a formation that keeps us solid until the confidence and form come back. I've seen a few posters on here recently trying to make out that Brett is 'stroppy', 'moody' or 'not a team player' or whatever else has been thrown at him and McInnes said that nothing could be further from the truth. He said he speaks to him every day and although Pitman's natural body language may not look the best at times (I think he said he'd told Brett that he 'oozes stropiness'), nothing could be further from the truth. He understands why he isn't playing, is remaining patient and is working hard in training to make sure he is ready when his time comes. He also confirmed what we already knew about Brett being on the left wing. He should simply never be there!

That comment alone is enough to make me happy we have DM as gaffer and not KM/SW.

.McInnes always come over as very professional and that has impressed me since the first time I saw him interviewed He's probably the most professional manager I can remember since Joe Jordan.
