When Saturday Comes

Does anyone reckon there should be changes to the team that started on Saturday against Brighton, and if so what those changes should be. (Personally I think the team has already picked itself).

C'mon City

The squad/team must be chosen to reflect the formation/tactics we aim to play on Saturday as well as taking account of the strengths/weaknesses of the opposition. If that means making changes then so be it.

Football these days is very much a squad game and I would like to think that the players are mature enough to accept this and that fans are knowledgeable enough to realise that what worked well against specific opposition one day may not work on another day against a different team.

Exactly. Injuries, suspensions and other manifestations of Sod's Law guarantee that the players on the pitch and the team shape will change over the course of a season and, perhaps, even during the course of a match. So there's no point getting hung up on pet selections.

The manager realises this, hence his comments after Saturday's game he was happy that he has 18 players he knows can do a job at this level whatever the formation. The players know it to, hence Tinman's quote before the Bradford PA game that - "it doesn't matter what formation we play, its all about us (the players) on the day and how well we play our game".

The one word that brings it all together as far as this squad is concerned is TEMPO - speed of thought and deed, exploiting possession and space by accurate passing and intelligent movement on and off the ball. On our day no one in this division can live with us when we get it right, hopefully, the recent encouragement of having a few goals to show for their efforts will provide the confidence the players need to be on their day more consistently from now on.
