Spurs always looked a better team with him in the starting 11, pity about the injuries as I think he would have been one of the first names on the England team sheet most games

Also just read, played 313 games and only ever been booked 8 times!!! That is amazing for a centre back

Absolute legend of a player, real shame that he's been so badly affected by injuries

Will never forget his performance against France in Euro 04, immense in a defensive midfield position, even though he rarely played there for Tottenham

You could compile a truly sensational England XI with all the sick notes - King, Woodgate, Hargreaves, Owen...etc.

Great player, when he played. But given his record, should never have gone to South Africa in 2010

That's got to be worth throwing an XI together..

Kirkland

King

Anderton

Hargreeves

Owen

Ashton

Such a waste of talent, he had absolutely everything that you need to be a top class centre half. Would've easily played over a 100 times for England and would have more than likely claimed the armband at some stage. The way he played for Spurs on one leg and not being able to train from about 2006 up until this season was simply miraculous.

He surely must have been playing at a 75% fitness rate. Crazy.
