I have to say city have usually got a half decent keeper but the 3 we have are not up to it.I have just watched Parrish's boob for Newport ,the other 2 we have are very poor.Ever since David James came, it is the one position we lack in class.

You mean Tom Heaton not David James.

Heaton was far from poor, he kept us in many games.

It's not our keepers that are the problem it is the Defence we have never been solid since before David James came in! We can push up the leagues again if we sort out our defence!!

If Heaton was poor why did a team at the top of the Championship want him? He was excellent for us.

They weren't top when they signed him though were they?

I think Heaton was steady for us but he is very over rated by some on here. Wasn't helped by a desperately poor defence mind.

Heaton poor? He was just about the only one to come out of last season with any modicum of credit!

He's first choice for a team who will likely be in the premier league next season and he is poor?

sums up some of our fanbase.

soon people will be slagging off a player who's scored 18 and assisted 16....

Is the defence always the problem? The defence have no confidence in Fielding, he never comes out for crosses, never takes the pressure off the defenders, if we had a decent goalkeeper I'm 100% certain we'd be at least mid table by now.. Is it a coincidence that Shrewsbury affectively had 2 shots and they both went in?? That Gillingham once again had one shot and it goes in??

Fielding actually made a few bad decisions coming out and a few correct ones. Fielding to an extent is a valid scapegoat but the circus defending at times cannot be blamed on him. Both goals yesterday could of been prevented before the ball even reached him.

Imo the blame lies a little higher up. In midfield we have little to no aggression and bite, and up top we have no-one to hold the ball and relieve pressure.

Fielding was left exposed by the non tackling centre midfield and the non defending defence for the first goal, and for the second the bloke should never of been allowed to get the cross over from so tight to the goal line. I'm no big fan but he did come out for crosses, catching a few and punching a couple. Might as well stick with him for now.

Basso shit on us when we needed him most, and he's done well since hasn't he!

They weren't top... Signed Heaton and now they are with a pretty good goals conceded as well

Hmmmmmmmm... Coincidence

Hardly just down to Heaton though is it? Collectively as a team they have been superb and Heaton is a big part of that.

He was a good steady keeper for us but was far from spectacular. He wasn't helped by possibly the worst defence I've seen but people talk about Heaton as if he's one of the greatest keepers we've ever had.

They were only a top Championship team when he signed for them as the season hadn't started ;)

The league always starts in alphabetical order doofus!

That's a bit of a kick in the nutts. Unless he was only there whilst their number 1 was out?

Newport didnt name a keeper on the bench at the weekend so I imagine they are still short! And Parish made a howler during that game

Next year I can see parish and fielding leaving along with Maloney Fontaine with Osborne and Flint the main centre backs

Really interested to know which clubs are taking over Fielding's 3 year deal and Parish's 2 year one..

What worries me about Parish is that he hasn't excelled in a division below and with less pressure. He has still dropped at least two clangers.

Perhaps Newport can't justify the deal or perhaps part of his wages if he's not comfortably better than what they have.

Not only is Heaton doing well at Burnley but the much maligned Gerken is a regular starter at Ipswich. Both comfortably better than what we have including the underwhelming keeper we signed on loan from Cardiff.

Osbourne who joined in Jan? Moloney who is hardly turning heads here but is far from bad?

I have more confidence in Flint than I do El Abd now that is saying something!!

Fielding and Parish wouldn't leave.

I'm with you on Fontaine though

I think he's saying that Osborne and Flint should be our first chouce centre half pairing.

County's first choice keeper Lenny Pidgeley is still a few weeks away from playing again and the second choice Jamie Stephens has only just resumed training after an injury.  The plan was to extend Elliott Parish's loan for a second month and the clubs had both agreed, but Justin Edinburgh changed his mind after the poor display on Saturday and sent him back, signing another loan keeper (Ian McLoughlin from MK Dons) instead.

Parish pulled off an outstanding reaction save in the home match against Fleetwood which probably saved us a point, but during his time at Newport made a few basic errors and seemed reluctant to come off his line.

What's the county fans opinions on Jamie?

I know he hasn't had much of a look in due to injury, and the signing/form of Lenny, but how did he get on early season?

He was a keeper I thought city should have had a look at as back-up/young keeper to challenge first team.

Lenny Pidgeley was already at the club and Jamie was signed as back-up / one for the future and feelings amongst county fans are mixed (but we do have a strong doom & gloom element on our forum ;) ), although from what little I have seen of him he is a good signing.

Has only played in two league matches, 1 Capital One cup and 3 JPT matches  so far and looked solid in the home matches I saw. Unfortunately for him he picked up an injury in training the same week that Lenny was injured, otherwise he could have had a decent run in the side.

His first and only appearance was about 20 minutes from the bench on Tuesday when we were down to 10 men and heading towards a 4-1 defeat.
