You are WANTED if you went to Liverpool in the FACup in 1994

Recommended Posts

Heard this earlier.  I was there along with the other 9k.  We filled the Anfield Road stand even over spilled into the Centenary Stand.  I remember the large houses behind the stand over the road,  they appear to have now  gone.  They weren't terraced houses either.

Good memories,  especially the Kop applauding our players.  They were semi happy I recall as it was the final nail in Souness's coffin and was gone not long after.

Brian Tinnion's goal is a thing of City history and will always be remembered as the real 'Purple and Lime' moment.

I'll leave the phone in to others,  but I can always say with pride,

 "I was there"

We got there , in a 7 seater hire car , at about 3pm. Pulled up at the gates of Anfield to ask the best place to park, the guy on the gate started opening them to let us in as he thought we were with Motd ! We didn't take advantage of him and found a spot away from the ground.Great day/night out.

What a night that was - bunked off school that afternoon. My mate drove and we parked close to the ground where a young scouse lad asked us for a few quid to keep an 'eye' on the car! We gave him a couple of quid and he winked saying the car will be fine now!! When I got back home Dad had left a note saying 'You have just witnessed one of the greatest victories of in the history of Bristol City Football Club ! Wake me up!! Happy Days!!

One of many away days and simply just one of the best.

Winning was great but the way we did it by playing good football made it very special.

I've seen us win at many big clubs, Arsenal, Man U, W Ham, Villa but never encountered such a reaction by the Kop, and the rest of their supporters, at the end. That was was awesome. It proved that true football fans will always appreciate teams other than their own if the game is played correctly in the right way. So may the Spirit of Big John live forever at our Club.

We were there. Someone behind us knelt down and wee'd in my brother's coat pocket.

Walked back to the car - a red Mini - to find it being guarded by police. Drivers window was smashed and my Barbour "was missing"

Had a police escort on the wrong side of the road to the local police station to complete the paperwork before a long cold drive home the following morning.

Happy days.

As an 11 year old my father and I were sat in the Grandstand at Anfield with a Liverpool supporting family friend.  Fearful for my dad to keep quiet.  Was pretty clear we were city fans at the end, my old fella still recalls fondly having his hand shakes by numerous scousers.

The thing that sticks in my mind was, where I was situated, we were all for some reason standing on the seats. When tinman scored the ensuing celebrations and kerfuffle had me fall ass over tit off that seat, resulting in a painful injury to my ankle. It didn't spoil anything though. Great night!

What a night that was. I was sat between Terry from Brookside (real name Brian) and the bassist from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, forget his name now. Brian thought we were "sound" but they were gutted when Tinman swept the ball home. I often ask myself, "did this ever happen?"

I think Liverpool fans acknowledged that in all 3 games we were the better team, and obviously they were glad to get rid of Souness, After doing the article in the sun newspaper he was never going to get the fans back on side.

I was there with my brother. He still ribs me about the fact that I was about 10 seconds behind everyone catapulting into the air when Tinman scored. It took that long to sink in and believe the lino wasn't gonna disallow it for some spurious reason. Second best away day ever after the Arsenal opener in the old First Division.

And rightly so.

When I lived in Liverpool for a bit, plenty of Liverpool fans that I met remembered that game. Some even thanked me for helping to get rid of Souness. I was too young to be at the game though.

My wife Moaninolf and I drove up from Bristol, leaving our baby son in the very capable hands of his grandparents for the night. We arrived at the ground well ahead of time, parked at Goodison Park, walked to Anfield and visited the club shop.

She being born in Liverpool of Liverpudlian parents, wanted a memento of her visit so bought a "This is Anfield" mug and gave to me for safe keeping. Safe it remained under my seat throughout the match. After the match we walked back across Stanley Park to the car with the mug under my coat. Soaking wet, I fumbled to find the car keys, forgetting my "precious" cargo which tumbled onto the floor breaking into approximately one thousand pieces. Despite our elation at the result, she still saw fit to call me all of the swear words in her not inconsiderable vocabulary. As I found out, there's a fine line between winning a cup and smashing one.

What a wonderful, memorable match it was - a great night ... one I'll never forget.

I was there, my brother got arrested for chucking my sausage roll at me in an aggressive way :) . He said that they turned the camera's so that they could still see in the lock up under the ground.

It was a night to remember, after the Liverpool fans I spoke to said not many out sing the Kop.

Also had to pay a kid to look after the car, you could see the ones that told the kid to do one with their broken windows.

Long winded but a day I will never forget for a few reasons....!

I was sat bored to tears in a RE class at school when the school Receptionist tapped the glass in the door and made her way in.

A brief whispered conversation went between the Teacher and the Receptionist and the both turned their gaze on me and asked me to come outside the class with them.

Having no idea what was going on  I went along with it and found myself being comforted by the Teacher as the Receptionist gave me the news "I'm so sorry your Grandma has passed away"

I was pretty puzzled as my last remaining grandparent was my Grandad and Gran had died years ago, but I played along anyway.

"Your dad's outside to take you home" and off I was led to the car park where he was waiting trying his best to look upset stood alongside his Transit Van

I got in the van and Dad said his goodbyes to the teacher and off we drove.

Clear of the gates he said "We're off to Anfield son" - "What about Gran?" I asked. "I had to think of something as they would never have let you out and as she's dead anyway I wouldn't think it would be such a terrible thing to say" he replied.

"Trouble is boy your going to have to get in the back as your uncles are coming too and they going to have to have the front seats"

Dad didn't mention he had a giant compressor and all his tools in the back and the only space I had was between the bulkhead and the compressor but only fitted if I led down on my side in the foetal position.

Needless to say the journey was absolutely awful, covered in oil, dead arms and legs, crushed by the compressor every time he put his foot on the brake as it shunted forwards into my ribs - oh and he didn't stop so I can safely say I was pretty pissed off when we got there.

However, An unforgettable night unfolded before all of us and a night topped off by me in Liverpool Alderhey with a broken leg as Uncle Dave in his excitement threw me in the air at the final whistle and I landed about 4 rows in front on some other unfortunate soul.

At least I got to watch the Highlights on Sportsnight (I think) as I led in the hospital eating chocolate cake they gave me to cheer me up for being a "brave lad".

To this day I swear my Dads "little white lie" resulted in the heavens conspiring against me and breaking my leg.....but it was worth it and I'll do it all over again.

An unforgettable night. That split second between Tinnion hitting the ball and the realisation it had gone in are still etched in my mind as are the ecstatic celebrations in the away end. The journey back to Bristol seemed to be over in a flash.

I was there we went into the local pub before the game when a scouser came up to us and asked if we wanted to buy some rolls when we asked him what was in them he said nothing and opened a black bin liner full with just uncut bread rolls

Fantastic day, probably my best ever with City. Funny thing is I can't even remember the goal going in! I can remember Junior Bent missing chance after chance though!. I can also clearly remember the last 20 minutes lasting about 3 hours!!

I seem to recall Rob Edwards missed a decent chance too.

Still have the press cuttings from the Post of the game. Went on CATS with some mates and one of the best nights ever. Considering their side and internationals it was a mammoth effort and the best bit was the little triangle of passes and city players started to take the piss. Junior Bent should have had a hat trick, Grobelaar should have been sent off but in the end Tinman did the job and Keith Welch kept them out with one great save. Got home hoarse at 4am not believing what I witnessed that glorious evening

Liverpool game was one of the best but Bradford in the cup quarter final was class even though we came back minus a couple of windows on our coach, the Forest semi final was special because we were so close to a major final, Chester when we won promotion, Hereford when we were rock bottom but started our climb back that night, the 1.0 down 2.1 up we knocked rovers out the cup at East vile, Sheff Utd in the old fashioned play offs, Palace in play offs, Coventry has to be the best ever though, 15k to an away league fixture, that won't ever happen again !!

Best away day for me and still got that shirt, unfortunately the shirt has got smaller over the years.

Remember walking down the road after the game with a few City lads behind wearing Souness hair and moustache singing "now then now then your getting sacked in the morning"

Great night.

Was that the one where it kicked off in the Enclosure?

In the Upper Williams. Never forget the crack when this bloke's nose was broken. Poor chap only complained about the inadequate performance on the day and was subject to a vicious assault.

Scenes after the match as well with people climbing over car roofs en-route to the park. Think most of London turned out for us that day. Certainly not the usual bubble-hatted Charlton fans.

Was there. Remember thinking how small Anfield seemed when we got in the ground.

One of my mates went on the pitch when Tinman scored - and fell straight into the biggest steward I have ever seen. He spent the rest of the game watching on the monitor in the holding cells.

As a City fan who's second team has always been Everton (family reasons), it was obviously the best football night of my life.  :-)
