Kodija - Departs for 11 Million (Merged)

So to summarize my day so far. Got up (I'm overseas) looked at OTIB and saw Villa were now offering 17m. Looked on Newsnow and saw that this is entirely possible. while making cup of tea.

City possibly in for boy from IFK as the Swedish connection mentioned the other day and Waghorn (where did that come from?)

Does that cover it?

Arnie Garita was the "punt"

My recollection was that Cotts was very positive about Kodjia coming and thought we had a bargain.

Looks like he was right!

No, I've just recalled exactly what SC said: "we might have one 'ere". I believe it was at Yeovil pre-season, though could be wrong. May check to see if interview is still on youtube later.

Sky just reported he will sign for Villa in the morning on his return from international duty, price quoted was a championship record of  £15 million

Surreal when you come to think about it. Stuff like this doesn't happen to City?!

Hopefully it sets a good precedent that we will sell our players but only for very strong prices. If we followed the model of Southampton I'd be happy.

Because the fee is so huge, I feel this may get lost in the midst of the celebrations, but thanks Jimmy. Always gave his all and clearly a man who loves his football. Kept us in the division too, wish him only the best - I now want Villa to do a little better than previously.

Let's be real, they're getting someone who scored 20 goals for a struggling team which struggle to create anything for large swathes of the season. Kodjia is an excellent player and it will be a big loss if he leaves, irrespective of the transfer fee. I will wish him well.

Twas a joke mate. Chill.

£15 Million!!!! Unreal amounts of money!

Tell you what though... a strike force of Kodjia and McCormack could be absolutely lethal in this division.

Not if Kodjia can't spot his runs or doesn't release the ball.  I love Kodjia especially his unpredictably, but that is just as likely to frustrate his teammates as the opposition.

I think LJ's comments about being like an 18 in terms of footballing nouse are huge factor on way we are willing to cash in regardless if it's someone invite same division.

Well said. Agree with your sentiments Luxo other than wanting the Villa to do well!  His face when he came into the Sports Bar after the last game of the season and we were all singing his name is a great memory, he was genuinely touched. And you can't blame the bloke for wanting to earn as much as possible as quickly as possible at his age / stage of his career.   Thank you Jimmy!

As much as I liked Kodj, I don't.

I said I want them to do slightly better now. ;) after the arrogance of the fans on Saturday, and seeing what their chairman says on Twitter, I was quite keen for them to have an almighty struggle this season, to show them they aren't owed any respect by us.

Now I want them to come 21st. And Jimmy scores another hatful to keep them up, because I like him.

I would like him to do whatever is necessary to trigger the additional £4m from add on clauses - and then to get sold to a top team for a huge profit so that we also get the sell on clause cash! Go Jimmy!

Just now, Merrick's Marvels said:

To Kodjia - thanks and bon courage, son.

To Mr Lansdown - this one not "undisclosed" then. Pourquoi?

Ashton stated on the website that it's because of the high profile nature of the deal, i.e. Didn't want fans to think he'd been sold cheap

i'm glad he went to Villa and not Hull because he seems an ok bloke and Hull look like another northern disaster waiting to happen a la Bolton and Blackburn, I still cannot believe we have got such a mental fee for him.

and I cannot believe that after such a good piece of business the usual suspects feel the need to take aim at SC once more, but hey ho i'm sure if Flint goes for a similar mental fee SOD will be getting every single plaudit available, even though 'some' people told us SOD never wanted him.

Because of the price limits etc he himself discussed. They had to announce that it was a lot of money (more than he said), so we don't lose face and we don't look like a selling club.

Now that Kodjia is gone, the question of his replacement raises its ugly head again.

Assuming we get just under £7m of the transfer fee, I wonder if that'll be enough to bring in another forward, or whether our plan is to stick with Abraham until we can sign someone?

Tbh they could have easily said 'a championship record deal' if they didn't want it disclosed. Something makes me think Villa wanted it public as a sign to their fans they're trying to get things done.

Maybe we've got our replacement sorted already. I doubt we'd want other clubs to know we've got 15m spare (although it's not exactly a big secret) so maybe it's sorted and ready to be announced.

Why are we assuming 30% ? Can't help thinking it's not that high, truth is no one on here knows

Plus the Ayling, Agard & Williams money not to mention the Bolasie windfall.  We should be ok I think

Good player, but not worth £15mil. Still, good money for the club to bolster the ranks.

What's more interesting is that until now, Akinbiyi back in 1997 was our highest sell at £3.5mil. Gone are the days of driving past the 'AKINBIYI PLEASE STAY' graffiti on the Portway.
