The Official Bristol City v Burton Albion Match Day Thread

Good day everyone. And let us hope it ends as that, whatever that means to each individual. There will no doubt be a few out there who quietly would like the football club from the old king of world brewing to give City a good hiding today. One might argue that if Burton Albion come to Ashton Gate and shut up shop magnificently until the 80th minute then hit us on the break resulting in a fairly usual collapse on our part and 3 more goals it will put Lee Johnson out of his misery.

There may be others who argue that while they would never wish a defeat upon their club, whatever the consequences, just this once it is for the greater good. Many would even have sympathy with that view whilst not necessarily agreeing or advocating it. And therein lies the paradox.

Or one could express it rather more elongatingly; Paradoxical as it may sound, the truth seems to be that primary judgment, beginning as it does with the simplest feeling and sensation, is not a combination of two mental elements into one, but is a division of one sensible thing into the thing itself and its existence and the belief that it is determined as existing.

In short, I blame nobody at all for having this view. In fact I fully understand it. Born from the frustration, even the downright anger, that lies in the belly from spending hundreds and even thousands only to be confronted with an owner saying fans should not boo.

All of that said I would be absolutely flabbergasted if we do not win today and will leave it at that.. oh and to post the previous Burton thread here which is a celebration of what the town has literally given to the world.

Thanks. Gameday and lots of opinions. 3 points all that counts. Gotta feeling we will explode today, 3-0. Or is it just my imnigation? For me it feels the most important game of the season so far. The birds here in my small garden sings beautiful. A robin is the the first to talk, sing. Its white and snowing but the birds tell us spring is soon coming. However reality is not imagniation, fantasy. Burton is not a good awayteam and they had luck vs Blacburn 1-1. Think honest we have a good chanse to win. Come on you reds

I'm hoping if City score first the Brewers will droop.

We really SHOULD beat them . They are as good as us away from home and they have injuries to key players . They have some older players in their side so I hope we press and Deborah Harry .Wear the old fellas out and hit them with youthful exuberance ( Wilbs to score in Ian Dury time)

NOTHING LESS THAN VICTORY IS GOOD ENOUGH.

We can do this

Johnson out .

Come on City, please for the love of all City fans around the world and the cosmos, win this damned game today!!

I look for a 2-0 win and a draw at Blackburn v Wigan.

If we lose today, farewell Mr Johnson, thanks for the survival last season.

I fear the talents of Michael Kightly; will luck do us a favour and somehow force him to miss this game today?

We beat Burton earlier this season thanks to a healthy dose of luck and Tammy.

I worry that without either of those things, today will prove a tougher proposition.

And if we fail to take three points today, that would mean that out of our last five (Leeds, Fulham, Newcastle, Villa and Burton) we'd have only matched or improved on one result (Newcastle draw) from the first half of the season - even the staunchest of the LJ faithful would have to question if that really represents anything close to progress.

So let us hope we start our push back up the table starts today, and we can do the double on Burton.

It is undeniably one of the most crucial games we've faced this season; please let us pass this test.

Burton Albion:

Hope the day ends well and take a couple of Elongated Paradoxicals to get the simplest feeling & sensation.

Flabbers will be gasted if we don't win.

Pre Match Drinks in Coopers has always been a great part of home games but it is fast becoming the only highlight!

Let's face it, nothing is going to change in the dugout so let's make some noice, get a scrappy win today & try to stay up

In our dreams a Taylor hat trick would be good, as long as we don't concede 4.....

I travelled up to Burton full of hope in August,  the pub we were in ran out of Thatchers at about 1.30 . It hasn't got any better since to be honest.

That's a bit harsh. They got some new carpet and do a good karaoke night now.

A thoroughly toxic atmosphere and fellow fans fighting would be embarrassing and shameful, something that couldn't be overlooked.

As such I volunteer to take a damned good kicking.

Please form a disorderly queue in the lower Dolman just after Burton score. Who's in???

First time in over 20 years I've given my season ticket to a mate and have found something else enjoyable to do. Never thought id say that but lost interest under Johnson.... Despite that I hope we smash burton 4 0 playing as well as we did at the start of the season giving us confidence, otherwise we are headed for l1.

Just said to a mate, the bit that worries me the most is even when we were 'good' earlier in the season, we scraped past Wigan and Blackburn at home, and Burton away. We absolutely robbed them away from home.

Theyve got potential to beat us today, Kightly always scores against us and Woodrow was a good signing for them too.

We NEED to start G'ON, Tomlin and Taylor today. If I see two holding midfielders in the side today, or one up front, or both, I'll feel sick.

Always hope for a win myself .... been in this situation over many years with some managers teetering on the edge, but in a '6 pointer' like this I just feel we can't afford to not win ... there are other games we may lose soon that could drop us into the bottom 3, with potential changes then happening, but at least by beating Burton they may be kept closer to us for the final run in!

Saying all of that, I get why people think differently ... however, whilst opinions differ it all comes from the same place of loving the club!

Love the club which will still be here after  LJ. At worst he won't last longer than next season's end

Love the club which will still be here after SL and gang have gone. No idea when that will happen of course but that it will is inevitable

Thank you very much, we need all the best wishes we can get. I've been lucky ( if that's the right word) enough to go and watch Bristol again this season, only missed one home league game and yes that was last weekend as I was in Newcastle. Delighted to be able to follow the match via text, we could both do with a few games like this, sounded really exciting and a vital win. Looking forward to the next game, I'll be there, but football will always be my first love. Until then I'll be watching them on tv tomorrow, best of luck to both teams for the rest of the season.

It's a rare nice sunny day (not seen many of those lately), crisp air, the type of day I would normally be happy and really look forward to going down to AG - a pre-match football morning all before the pre-match build up and going to watch your favourite team, it should be a exciting perfect morning - instead it feels like a chore, I don't know if we will win or lose (really hope we win as this is a huge 6 pointer and I don't want us in the relegation spots at the end of the day) but regardless I know I won't be seeing any real football today win or lose, and will find myself still thinking this evening mehhh what a crap season.

Feel today is last chance saloon for LJ and the team.

While there are plenty of games left, a loss today will leave us with no momentum and I just can't see where we will be able to turn things around. Teams around us all seem to have found some form and importantly results,  and I can easily see them going past us or pulling away.

Im normally pretty positive and optimistic about the team, but since Christmas have found my optimism ebbing away, which Im really sad about. I still think this team is far better than it's current position, but  the disastrous run of losses before Christmas hammered their confidence. The first halves at both Derby and Newcastle showed their potential, but the second halves in those games showed the mental fragility that is now the biggest achilles heel.

Desperately hoping for a win today but fearing a draw at best.

That's my thoughts, I think this game is down to the manages and can't see him out thinking cough.

nightmare scenario is what I'm worried about,  we lose to a bad decision which he uses as an excuse and still stays

So ' disinterested ' that you post on OTIB on matchday morning .

It's a bloody drug and SL is the dealer driving round in a big black Four Wheel Drive Mercedes with the windows darker than a Priest's socks.

Exactly. By the first week in March I thought we would be nice mid table safe now, thinking about playing out our remaining matches with thoughts towards the next season. I thought we would be thinking about what players will come and go, what areas need strengthening etc. Instead I'm pretty bloody miserable at the thought that we are fighting relegation with many players leaving us, not because we don't want them but that they will jump ship and stay in the Championship whilst we might have to totally rebuild again. Now that's depressing.

So I guess I'm going to go and watch players like Cotterill whilst I can, yes I know he isn't ours but it will be a long time until we see talent like him again if we are relegated.

SL isn't in the driving seat. He's got others to do that. He's the "mastermind" funding and benefiting from the misery of others. The misery he's created.....

Anyway I'm hoping for a nice win. Just so it keeps a flicker of interest alive until Easter :)

You think so wouldn't you, I think Wigan and Rotherham are doomed but Blackburn seem stronger under Mowbray so winning today is as much about drawing burton back in in as well us us and three points, we lose were cut adrift

I really hope we see Taylor and Tomlin from the start today. The worst thing we can do it select another team with no attacking purpose and sit back allowing them to dictate the play.

What if he plays them at left back and centre half ?

Morning Hav and all.

My neffypoo is a flagbearer today so as much as we are all pissy with LJ, can we all give the kids (including the mascots) a big cheer as they step onto the turf at AG please? And my brother will be in the SS and he is one of those that sits in silence, so if you see him (some of you know who he is), give him a nudge from his big sister and tell him to sing.

I don't know what to feel today. I don't know what to bet either. Part of me thinks a win for City, part of me thinks a loss. I have no idea.

So I'll say a draw. 1-1.

Dreading 5pm...

Edit: All those who aren't going (protesting at LJ, exiles, work etc) are welcome in Chatbox. Click Menu>Browse>Chatbox. We can't see you if you lurk so please type hello. And no one is allowed to leave spoilers until @REDOXO has heard it via player!

It seems like I am just going through the motions recently on match days. Even the pre match ritual of KFC seems tainted or is it just the chicken?

I will of course be giving it my all as is expected and only wish that the players do likewise. I fully expect a very toxic atmosphere if we underperform which is very sad as we all love the club and hate seeing the decline and the prospect of another season season in the championship slowly ebb away.

It seems like we are slowly dieing by a thousand cuts with the odd scrap thrown at us to keep us from starvation.

Nothing other than a decent convincing win will be acceptable today so COYR and lets finally turn this around. :sign09:

It all depends on where LJ's random position selector puts them..

Sometimes I wonder if LJ uses the spinning bottle method to pick positions!

Can't see anything other than a convincing 90min performance, some structure/formation, discipline etc being enough to pacify those going today.

Undoubtedly the team has quality but seem unable (unwilling even..?) to put this together for 2 halves.

If we go behind, i dread to think what the atmosphere will be like - and then it becomes about determination, resolve, character, desire....throw into the mix the team's current mental fragility under pressure and it could, could be, a tinderbox.

That said, we have to use the seriousness of the current situation to best advantage, time for round pegs & round holes, a formation to take the game to Burton, not merely contain them, and go out there with a commitment to get the job done. Play with a freedom, a passion....something that says 'we're here to play football and here to win'...

A win, 2-0, 3-1, is a must i feel today. Along with a performance. 2 up front please, no messing around. 3 at the back, 5 across the middle, play with intent & width. Start the game at pace, leave everything on the pitch at the end.

No excuses.

Tomlin at home , need attacking intent.   Has been poor ,  but if he's fallen out with the clueless one , does Tomlin want to help save lees job ?

Good question but I wouldn't want to believe he would deliberately try to lose.

If we play two holding midfielders and one up front again today I think I will be fuming before we've even kicked off.

I would like to see Mags back. We have no decent FBs so lets go 3-4-3. JB and DC wide midfield/wing back. Tomlin, Taylor and Djuric up front (or Wilbs if Djuric isn't fit). Not 1 up with two dropping back - three attackers Lee!!

We have to go for it from the start to get the crowd onside. No point playing it any other way as we can't defend so just set up to out score them. They are poor away so surely we could manage that if we went for it???

Once again our chances in this match come down to who LJ starts. We need The Snake starting up top imo and I'd like to see more from our left side in terms of real intent to supply our forwards with the quality they need. It's great we have Cotterill on the right but the issue is that if we persist with going down that side as our main outlet, teams will suss us out like they did when Albert Adomah was our main out ball on the attack.

I think LJ will play the line up too safe and we will draw 1-1 or lose 1-2.
