The Derby County v Bristol City Match Day Thread 28

Bryan has looked shot for confidence in his last 2-3 games IMO. Not driving at his opposing full back like we know he can. This game is also showing that it’s really time put genuine full backs into the RB/LB slots. Wright & Maggs whilst solid enough defending, offer absolutely nothing going forward. Balance of the team from front to back looks all wrong tonight. This is causing a ripple effect which means Reid and Patts are having to drop so so deep to get on the ball.

Thought first 25 we were ok, matching them, leading up to the Pato chance.

Since then we look well second best, getting forced back, and frankly lucky to be level. Not picking up players, passing game disjointed and Reid not being given a chance.

Only good news I suppose is that it is level!

Injuries ffs

we cant play with a proper right back obviously and are more solid with joe in front of mags. Fully fit squad we would have 2 proper full backs.

Derby making the pitch big, but we look like 3 separate units, which means we cant press as one unit.  Need to either condense the play by pushing up, or let them have it at the back.  Prefer we squeeze up...and take the risk over the top.

Seemed to be a bit slow towards the end of the first half. 2 or 3 not marking or looking about. Flint has to pick somebody up. Don’t give Nugent 10 foot all the time. Stay tight. Smith keeps giving the ball away. Patterson is wriggly in and out of them. But had left footed Bryan been on the end of our best chance instead of right footed Patterson we would have been one up. We need to be 10 % better in the second half or we could lose this game.COYRs.

Putting diedhiou on for Magnússon, and having Bryan drop back could help us there. Also maybe Kent on for Pato on the wing?

From the sound of things I'd take off Bryan not Mags. Or Pato.

Think your right regards JB, LJ may drop him back and brink Kent on. Also think it’s crying out for Fam up front as they’re winning everything that’s played up to Bobby

Pointless football so far. It’s all well and good trying to play perfect football, quick interchanging pass but it has to have a purpose of which there is currently none!

Get Fammy on and play more direct. If he is fit enough to be on the bench he must be fit enough to play 45 mins.

I think the purpose of it is to try and create space, which the Derby defence are offering very little of. Diedhiou coming on probably will help, but I hope it's not to be "direct", or hoof ball.

A very similar performance to the last 3, lots of pretty football but we either over complicate or run out of ideas in attacking situations and we have no scoring threat, poor crossing as well.

It doesn't help with playing 2 players who are not full backs, Magnússon has been ok but occasionally strays to far forward but Wright for me is on the edge of a second yellow.

That all said it was refreshing to see that we are not over awed by them and boy what another team of whingers and whiners, who know how to go down easily, more of a presence upfront would help.

Bobby has had zero service whatsoever. He's not going to get anything from 60 yard hoofs. We're even sniffing for knock-downs when we do punt long.

Just a bit disjointed. Need Brownhill to link MF to Bobby and Pato.

Ridden our luck at times (crossbar), but also really could have scored.

Id take a point

Russell and Lawrence particularly, what a pair of belters they are.

Can't see a change to early in the 2nd half, but FD will add an option. Depends how fit he really is.
Be nice to see Bobby playing off of him like earlier in the season.

So anyone watching Sky will see the I know absolutely **** all

Think we need an injection of pace and enthusiasm. Bring on Walsh who had a brilliant first game. Would take Smith off who hasn’t been to good. Think Fammy May get a 15 minute run out but we can’t expect to much from him. So stay the same until the last 15 and then Fammy plus Elliason or Kent. Edge of your seat stuff. Need more Lager.

Injuries yes, well done.

We’ve just brought in 2 midfielders in the transfer window. Maybe bringing in 2 actual full backs would have been more important?

Now I no we are not supposed to be critical in any way ...... But we are shi t !

0-0 away against an in-form side, we’ve  had some spells of possession, created a few chances including a golden one for Pato. Shows how far we’ve come when that’s your assessment of a competitive half of football against a decent side.
