Bolton seem to have people that want them but can't agree how to do it, I reckon they will get a stay just to save the EFL dealing with the issue of what to do with the games that have already been played. Dr Balls
The EFL are a joke - simple as! However as noted in that David Squires cartoon strip, your football is a wider reflection of your country: Germany - highly organised; supporters owning 51% of a club’s shares; stability guaranteed, tradition and local relevance valued. England - no organisation; any chancer can own a club and drive it to the wall (or over a cliff); “it’s a free market” - winners and losers, “Devil take the hindmost”. The first couple of paragraphs seem quite interesting (in a shameful, ‘classic efl’ way) It's not so bad on a computer but on a phone etc.. Sure. Incredible- the headline speaks volumes, even considering the track record of the EFL! It reads like a spoof article ie the Spoof.com or similar and considering the date it may as well be but you can't make up that stuff! Quote The EFL on why Blackpool's Karl Oyston was mentor for Port Vale's Norman Smurthwaite The EFL have responded to the Port Vale Supporters' Club about Karl Oyston and Norman Smurthwaite By Michael Baggaley 20:00, 1 APR 2019 It was one of the most eyebrow raising comments of a memorable encounter between Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite and fans at a no--holds-barred supporters club meeting. Smurthwaite was invited to the meeting last season fielded open questions from the floor for a couple of hours. One such question was, is it actually true that the EFL gave then Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston to Smurthwaite as a mentor. The Vale owner confirmed that was indeed the case. Now the Supporters' Club have taken that issue up with the EFL asking why a chairman who was controversial at Blackpool would be a seen as a suitable mentor for the man at the helm of Port Vale. Mark Porter, chairman of the Supporters' Club, wrote to the EFL asking for an explanation, and they wrote back. The EFL explained that Oyston was assigned to Smurthwaite way back when the Vale owner was new to the club, having bought the Valiants out of administration in 2012/13. They said: "Thanks for your email, we understand your concerns and note the comments you made throughout. "In relation to your query regarding mentorship, at the time of Norman Smurthwaite's initial involvement at Port Vale, a then Football League mentor policy was in operation. "This policy aimed to provide new owners with a mentor, to speak and liaise with in circumstances where they did not feel they were required to directly engage with the league. "Blackpool's approach to player expenditure was of interest to Norman Smurthwaite, and he was assigned Karl Oyston as mentor who, during that time, had been voted as a Championship representative on the Football League board. "Of course, these events fell prior to the well-documented difficulties that have since faced Blackpool FC. "The EFL's overriding aim is to ensure the long-term sustainability of our 72 member clubs, and see our competitions, and the league prosper as a whole. "While clubs have a responsibility to engage and consult with their fanbase, the EFL will look to advise supporters and supporters' groups on any relevant matters or ongoing concerns as appropriate." The email was revealed by Porter during the last Vale Supporters' Club meeting at which members of the Blackpool Supporters Trust were guest speakers. Karl Oyston was chairman of Blackpool from 1999 until February 2018. A large section of Blackpool fans have boycotted the club for the last four years over the way he and his father Owen Oyston ran the club. But this February, Owen Oyston was removed from the board of the club. That was after Blackpool were put into receivership by the High Court. It’s a wider societal problem in this country. Huge amounts of money sloshing around a few large clubs, some of which is of at least dubious origins, or the club has been mortgaged to the hilt to make the owners a profit (the Glazers), while the values of community and camaraderie that are the lifeblood of most of the clubs in the EFL count for nothing, especially when you see some of the people allowed to own them, a significant proportion of whom have had previous rulings against them in terms of business activities outside football. IF (and it’s an enormous if) the EFL had any gumption, it would run a much tighter rein over clubs, including real “fit and proper” assessments of owners, plus direct supporter involvement at a high level. Any decent investigation into what has happened at Bolton & Bury would likely make similar recommendations, but I won’t hold my breath on it happening. Instead it will be the usual guff and hand-wringing about particular unfortunate circumstances etc, rather than dealing with the real substance of the problem. If it means some EFL clubs going semi-professional to survive, so be it. A Bury-Bolton derby amongst semi-pros in the third tier of English football is infinitely preferable to a competition containing “Man Utd B” v “Man City B”, however much that might suit Guardiola. 2

I'm not going off topic talking about kit changes and name changes - Hull’s owner wanting Hull City Tigers as a new name and Cardiff’s owner changing the home kit to red are examples of clubs’ histories and traditions being chucked away recklessly - mergers are the same ... And on the subject of changes, if clubs merge, their kit changes and their name changes - pretty obvious really. You still haven’t answered the questions I’ve asked you a couple of times - if City merged with another club and played under a different name, in a different location and in a different kit - would you go and watch them? And if Bury and Bolton merged under the name Bury Wanderers and played in Bolton - how many fans of each club do you think would watch ‘that’? Just looking at free agents on Transfermarkt, players out of contract, looking for a club - Forwards: JET, Gary Hooper, Chris O'Grady, Chris Dagnell, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake Wingers: Will Buckley, Dean Bowditch, Matt Jarvis, Jermaine Pennant Midfield: Peter Whittingham, Paul Anderson, Josh McEachran, Jack Rodwell Centre Half: Michael Turner, Anton Ferdinard, Matthew Kilgallon, Roger Johnson Full Back: Danny Simpson, Jordan Spence, Ryan Taylor, Adam Matthews, Alan Hutton Goalkeeper: Jordan Archer, Boaz Myhill With rose tinted glasses on and wishing that there was more compassion and understanding in the game, that some of these players would play for free for one more year and a combination with the young players at each club, give their knowledge to help with fielding a team and filling the stadium, reduced ticket prices etc, generating some income and PR. Happy to be shot down for the idea. The major issue is that footballers in the lower leagues are paid a good salary but not “live for free for a year money” and people cut their cloths according to their means. Many of those players will have mortgages etc and may genuinely be unable to make the sums work...

Sad people who didn't know him or were even fans .....they just want to be part of "something" & and it being on telly exacerbates it. Mark Warburton, ex-City Trader, should have some opinion. Edited August 27, 2019 by Davefevs
