Yep, frustrated me too…and at other times in our own half we play some awfully dangerous straight passes into midfield, asking to be picked off.

Yep, Harley Bennett give it away a couple of times in that manner and I don't like Jas Bull's throw in's across the pitch either, just needed one of their players to nick in and we could have been in avoidable trouble.

Might be in a small group here but I am upbeat after today's draw.

Considering Birmingham's confidence would have been high after last week's drubbing of Sunderland, I thought the women took some confidence from an away point at Saints and used it for a building block for today. Pleased to see City look more of a threat going forward than last season (understandably) although I noticed Abi Harrison dropped in quite a bit too. City had twice as many atttempts on goal as Birmingham and although Bentley had to make a couple of smart saves, City weren't too far away on occasion either. Couple of times, the wrong option was taken but that will come with time. 50/50 on possession too.

Positives. Lexi Lloyd-Smith looked good in her time on the pitch, team looked more organised & played to a pattern, I'm a growing fan of Amy Rodgers and Emily Syme looks a yard quicker this season. A clean sheet today, two games unbeaten. Nearly 2k in the stadium vindicates the decision to play the games at AG.

Negatives? Think City will miss Naomi Layzell this season, squad still looks a little thin in places, a little more clever thinking in attack is needed.

7/10.

I agree.

We had more dangerous moments in their box but Fran definitely made save of the match.

No, no, was just asking your view.

I may have worded it poorly to start the reply. 🤣 I did enjoy it. Just need more up front.

Did Gavin Marshall mention how many pies we sold today?

Not many, the kiosks were very quiet.

Birmingham players nearly all better technically than ours. The number of easy passes that either went astray or were hit too soft and picked off was crazy. That said when we managed to get attacks going we created some decent chances, as bid Brum. Overall a good point but worrying how technically poor so many of our players were.

Back to the bread and butter at the Gate! Back in the second tier and back to some old foibles. Good to see nearly 2,000 on hand at this level - don't know how many Brum brought, no Lioness fans today.

Looking at the positives, I thought there was a confident mood and a more flexible approach to changing the shape during the game. Starting were a few new faces and some whose playing time was limited last season. All in all, the team looked fairly stable and had a few worthy raids which got the crowd on their feet. Defensively, we didn't have too much to deal with and kept a clean sheet.

However, there is still a way to go before this team gets into full stride and that will only take time. There is a good core of players and the coaching may have shaken off the woes of last season. But it's clear that while this is a new start in many ways, some old themes remain.

Thestrup looked all alone again up front, with little real support. I had hoped Lloyd-Smith would be closer but spent more time out at right half than inside right. Harrison buzzed around the middle but didn't manage to get much traction before coming off. The midfield had plenty of effort and guile but didn't get a frim grip on the game. Occasional breaks and thrusts often fizzled out. Defensively, the new set-up held fairly well considering Harley Bennett was the new face in a back line that had lost most of the side's talent and had a decent game. Jaz Bull held the fullback slot and Powell was able to venture forwards at times. Birmingham had few real efforts but Fran Bentley had lost none of her reactions, thankfully.

Overall it was a game where both sides cancelled each other out and the play was largely in the middle. Few shots on goal tells its own tale. Had we taken a stronger grip then we would surely have won. But for the time being, it was another point; no defeat, a clean sheet against a team that some fancy for a title shot. Next up - a trip to London City; we'll find out more then.

Apologies for anybody sat close to my very loud 9 year old daughter.

it was her first game and just could not stop attempting to shout sadly it sounded more like screams.

The poor girl in front even asked her to keep it down a bit.

Confirmed in the article that he's signed a two year deal & he will be in charge of this Sunday's game, and in his interview that Loren Dykes & Nat Haigh will go back to their assistant coaching duties

Quite good interview, won't change style of play. Will be interesting to see who he picks for Sunday.

I suspect it will be an unchanged 11 to start, but maybe a more adventurous substitute policy.

Yep, bit surprised Ward didn't come off the bench last wee but Woolley did well. Hopefully Mustaki will be fit soon to give us a natural left sided player, Ella Powell has been good but probably better on the right.

Some points I observed:
- Steve Kirby was waiting for a head coach role to take on; ready for new role at City
- Jamie-Lee Napier to be captain on a permanent basis
- No concerns regarding our players that were once at London City Lionesses (also, Maddi Wilde facing City for the first time since she left over the summer)
- No game next weekend will give team the chance to be together, but the game right after is the League Cup game away at Leicester City...

Unchanged starting XI from last Sunday & same set of subs too.

Jamie-Lee Napier, Amy Rodgers & Harley Bennett all facing their old club today.

On the flip side, Maddi Wilde starts for London City.

No livestream of the game today (it will be on the Barclays Women's Championship YouTube tomorrow)

Come on City, big early season game and time to put a marker down, I predict 2-0 to us. Thestrup & Lloyd-Smith to score.

Disappointing result. City started brightly with Lexi Lloyd Simth very dangerous

Against the run of play, London went ahead. A careless pass in the centre circle allowed London to lob Bentley who too far out of her goal. A 2nd followed after another sloppy pass with the City defence dragged over to the left and London allowed to advance on the city goal with a 3 on 2 advantage. Ahot against the post could have made it 3-0 at half time. City dominated the 2nd half, but had Thestrups consolation. Overall we should not have lost. Plenty of positives, but a number of topics for Kirby to focus on, in particular our carelessness with the ball.

Thanks for the report. Sloppiness in passing was exactly what I commented on from watching the Birmingham game, so may simple passes hit too soft, so they get intercepted, or simply misdirected. This is really basic stuff, that hopefully the new head coach can sort out.

Amy Rodgers lost possession for the 1st, great finish mind you, as was 2nd goal.

The team will be wearing the away kit for the first time this season at tomorrow's game...

Any idea why the women are wearing a different shade of the away kit to the men's team? Is there a reason for it or just more tinpot kit stuff from us?

A quick look at Getty Images shows it's not the same colour - it's white, rather than the cream colour. The badge makes it obvious.

I was at the game on Sunday. It looked slightly pink rather than cream.

Performances have been OK though and we could have got a point at LCL. Our next four games are Sheff Utd (A) Blackburn and Portsmouth (H) Sunderland (A) all winnable. We have a good squad at this level and I'm sure we'll soon go stonking up the table.

I hope you are right, it will be interesting to revisit this comment after those games

But on the basis the teams at the top drop very few points the start may have cost us already

I assumed it was just lighting & the particular style of photography. I saw in some photos the shirt looks more cream than others, but that's an interesting spot that even I didn't see!

With City not playing today, all the other teams played as normal.

Big shocks of the round are Durham beating Birmingham 1-0, but most notably Sunderland getting their first win of the season after beating London City Lionesses 1-0, which was their first loss of the season.

Because of Sunderland's win, they move above City who now drop to 9th. Our next game in the league is away at Sheffield United, one of two teams who are still pointless.

Charlton on top as the only team to get maximum points so far from all their games

Naomi Layzell made her Man City debut today v Brighton, did OK from what I saw playing at right back. The game also featured ex-City players Lauren Hemp, Poppy Pattinson & Sophie Baggeley.

Her first Man City start, I believe. Saw that Man City won that fixture yesterday, which was interesting as Brighton had a shock win at Man City's ground last season

Yep, twas on BBC2, watched quite a bit of it. Naomi played well, didn't look out of place. Brighton looked good and had a few chances, Fran Kirby should have scored, but Man C deservedly won.

Few changes in starting XI for tonight's Women's League Cup group game away at Leicester City (in Burton).

Jackie Burns makes her competitive debut in goal. Greta Humphries' first start.

Maya Kendall on the bench. No Ella Powell in the squad who is injured

KO 7pm. No livestream anywhere so will try see updates on social media (while watching the men at Ashton Gate tonight!)

0-0 after 37 mins, we're dominating possession 60-40 and had the only shot on target so far.

Finished 1-1 aet, we won the penalty shootout 2-1. Jacky Burns saved 3 pens.

There's no extra time in group games, goes straight to penalties.

A very impressive debut from Burns to save so many penalties. I'll need to watch the game back if/when I can, as last lesson Leicester scored loads of goals against City in both games. Great bonus point for City though.

In the other group game, Brighton won 3-0 away at Birmingham. Brighton currently on top of group D

No, I misread the tweet! Anyway, where can we watch it, nothing on the Championship youtube site, maybe there'll be some highlights on our club site.

So it seems that for Women's League Cup games, they will be on the WSL YouTube page. The full game is on there as well as highlights (the highlights are also on Bristol City's YouTube channel)

Incredible goal line tackle from Bennett, Burns with a couple of great saves let alone the pens.

I do hope we are kept in touch over the tannoy tomorrow with updates/result from the Sheff Utd game. Kicks off at 1 but should be plenty of people in the ground by the time the game ends.

It would be a good opportunity for the club to promote the women to our fanbase.

I always see adverts for home games on the LED pitchside boards, and that there's a promotion for men's ST holders for the Blackburn home game next Sunday (as the men's team aren't playing next weekend)

But more could be done

What an odd reason not to have one

Obviously different to the men where there has to be one

Press conferences were a requirement for the WSL, and thankfully the club have carried them on this season

I know the media team have been stretched in some form - Friday's press conference for the Cardiff game was done remotely rather than in person, and they didn't even do one for the Sheffield Wednesday game

Fran Bentley back in goal.
Mari Ward comes in for Jazz Bull.
Fearne Slocombe on the bench.

No Jesse Woolley in the squad.
Ella Powell still out with injury...

For Sheffield United, there's no Satara Murray in the squad

KO 1pm. No livestream today. Hopefully City women will get three points followed by three points for City men at Ashton Gate...

Despite the win & other fixtures today, City climb up to...7th. Other standouts this weekend include Charlton coming back from being 3-1 down to rescue a point & lose their 100% winning record this season, and Durham getting a shock 1-0 win over local rivals Newcastle

Onto next Sunday for the first home game since Birmingham several weeks ago in September...

Very poor of whoever's in charge of these things not to announce the result before, or at HT, at AG today. Pathetic. I know there was a presentation before and interview at HT but it wouldn't have taken much to give the score, they are part of BCFC aren't they?

So, I've been on the main OS site and the only table I can find is the women's Super League!!  I'm interested in BRISTOL CITY who are in the Women's Championship - why is that table not there?  Very poor IMO.
