Ella Mastrantonio & Georgia Wilson released. Really gutted about Mastrantonio, as she's got the experience & would have been a fan favourite had fans been at the games, but I do feel she was underutilised this season, especially as she got left out in the last game against Brighton.

Wilson is a former Academy player but hasn't really made a lot of first team appearances since she joined the first team.

Mastrantonio I can understand as she was an Aussie brought in under Oxtoby's tenure but doesn't seem to be keen on Championship level in a foreign country. She's a decent player and I can sympathise.  Wilson is only 19 and has been at the club for two years but won't be getting another chance, sadly.

The real question I want to ask is: who made these decisions?

I can only assume it may have been the players. Both were on one year contracts & I assume they wouldn't want to stay/extend, given current circumstances. Either they rejected any offer, or weren't offered in the first place.

I wish the club would release a "release list" and "retained list" like what City men, and other women's football clubs, have already done. I can't handle all this bad news being released one by one ?

Speaking of lists, Brighton unveiled theirs & confirmed that Laura Rafferty has been released by then, so she could join City permanently, but I don't know if she will

The next question now arising is how much does the club have to offer new contracts? I know the Women's side finances are a vastly different kettle of fish to the men's (and that thread is running briskly in the post-Covid era!) but will there be enough funding for new players? A tough and important off-season is already here for whoever is in charge.

Is the Women's Championship fully professional?

Times rich list today claims Lansdown is worth £1.35 billion.

He hasn't invested in the womens game and charges parents of the girls academy a fee to play and kit,  even though they have trialed and earned there right to play.

Proper disgrace for equality imo , He might not even know but he should do.

How does that compare with the age equivalent male teams?

Bristol city boys are treated differently. No fees , mini buses, kit on time/ more kit.

I just think they should be treated equally as the girls have earned the right to be there aswell.

Seems strange to me when the owner is worth billions but still charges the academy's parents so that the womens team is funded.

They absolutely should be. It seems like a prima facie case of sex discrimination.

100% agree

I would question why those within the club are not asking these questions

Looks like Tanya will still be on maternity leave/club are trying different approach (without resorting to sacking her).

At least there'll be some stability with the same head coach throughout the season.

I'm still hoping Gemma Davies would want to apply, unless she ends up at Birmingham, since Carla Ward left them to join Villa.

Lee Burch is another name that's been thrown around.

Shows what City thinks of the women's team.

Bung an advert on the OS and see who applies.

Seems a bit embarrassing.

Not sure the criticism is warranted.

They need to advertise the temporary role because Tanya Oxtoby is still on maternity leave and they have to keep the permanent role available for her to return to. If they don’t advertise for maternity cover how would anyone know to apply speculatively?

This is how most businesses would handle it, with a job advert.

Confirmation on Twitter that Loren Dykes is leaving after twelve years at the club.

Announced yesterday as being assistant coach at Wales. There was no chance she'd be able to combine both roles. Bit of a comms failure that the club had to announce after Wales made their announcement...

One of the few originals of the early years, Loren was a stalwart for the team both on and off the pitch. It's no surprise that her talents are recognised and she has moved up to international level; I'm sure Wales will be the better for her presence. She first played under Gary Green's tenure (gosh, that seems so long ago now!) in a side that often struggled but were slowly improving over time.  Always struck me as a really intelligent and communicative person. Coaching is surely going to be where she will make a bigger mark.

Tanya still on maternity leave, and both Marco & Loren gone.

Will be interesting to see who comes in as Head Coach for the upcoming season, knowing they can potentially bring in their own assistants

Interesting listening to Emile Heskey yesterday. He’s currently manager of Leicester women and said he thinks there is more excitement anticipation in the women’s game at the moment and certainly where his ambitions lie. Think City women’s could be an attractive job for someone.

Emile Heskey is a coach there. I believe Jonathan Morgan is the manager at Leicester.

Am hoping City Women would still be an attractive club for someone to join, even with the unfortunate news that Head of Women's Football Lee Billiard is now announced as leaving at the end of the month (my guess is he's been offered a lucrative offer elsewhere). So now we have no head coach, no assistants, no GM or director, and potentially no ground as there hasn't been an update on if the club would still play at Twerton Park or elsewhere.

I have to admit I had never heard of this guy, and no idea what he did

He was in other words the General Manager, which is common in women's football, although terms such as "Director of Football" or "Sporting Director" are also used. He pretty much ran the day-to-day of the club. His appointment was very significant considering that there was no General Manager in the 2019/20 season as the position couldn't be filled.

His appointment wasn't publicly announced at the time, but he's been extremely helpful, not just in being a contact in regards to the Vixencast podcast, but was also helpful in being a point of contact when we in the Supporters Club & Trust raised queries.

I just hope that the next General Manager etc will be as useful!

Beginning to get the impression that a lot of changes are still to happen after a relegation season. Could this indicate the club is at some sort of crossroads? Who is still in charge and what is the plan for the forthcoming times?

When Chelsea reached the Champions league final they were remarking how in the early days they relied on players like JohnTerry to help them out financially.
Hopefully times are more enlightened now and a way can be found to put the women on a more even footing. They are after all representing Bristol City.

I assume a replacement for Lee Billiard will be brought in. As far as I'm aware, there's still key people involved like Gavin Marshall & Lisa Knights, who were part of the Bristol City Women board. The same board that was once led by Mark Ashton.

Can only assume the new chief executive Richard Gould will hopefully have the same involvement, or more if ideal!

Interesting to read that Tanya Oxtoby is joining the Scotland women's national team coaching set up over the summer. I thought she was still on maternity leave at City.

Looking forward to hearing the explanation to this one. Just hoping this isn't another comms failure by the club where this means she has left, but someone else has announced it beforehand

The FA have confirmed that Watford & Sunderland (a former WSL side themselves) were successful in their applications to fill the vacant two places in the Championship for next season.

Last season there were only 11 teams in the league, causing an anomaly. With London Bees relegated, teams from Tiers 3-6 were eligible to apply. More details

Interesting comments in this BBC Sport article about clubs in the transfer window

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57356271

"relegated Bristol City are expected to lose a few players, including striker Yana Daniels, with Liverpool among those rumoured to be interested, while Wales' Gemma Evans could join Reading. And Manchester United could bring in goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley, with Emily Ramsey potentially leaving"

I believe Baggaley & Evans are out of contract anyway, but I don't think Baggaley would be #1 if she were to go to United, especially with former Vixens goalkeeper Mary Earps being #1 there.

Evans would be a huge miss if she goes, and if she goes to Reading, she'd join fellow Welsh players who have left City & ended up at Reading.

Yana Daniels I'd be surprised about. She left City a few years ago for Liverpool (before coming back a year later), so I wouldn't be sure why she'd go there again (unless it's the Matt Beard factor)

Sad, but I'm not surprised. Wonder if she will join Reading or another WSL team as previously rumoured.

Interesting that the club haven't announced a retained list yet. Guessing they may wait for players to see who the Head Coach will be for next season before committing or not

Ebony Salmon came off the bench for her Racing Louisville debut last night and scored within a minute. Good luck to her, would have been easy to stay in this country but she's left her comfort zone and fair play.

ETA - my apologies. In my excitement, I didn't check to see if anyone else has posted. Still, the goal is good enough to be posted twice IMO. ?

Hoping this is a good appointment. Don't really know much about her other than recently being assistant coach at Spurs. Wasn't even aware she was at the club before for seven years (mostly in smaller roles)

Hopefully this announcement will mean players will want to stay on for the season.

Official site says 'Interim' coach and implies for the new season. No mention of Oxtoby. Hmmm.

Lauren was a backroom staff member for a good few years and knows the club, but has not been here for the last four. I hope this is a good call by those who make the decisions and that it will be a foundation for a drive to return to the WSL. We'll wait for news about the playing squad and if that makes a difference.

As the original advert said it was 12-month maternity cover, Oxtoby is still on maternity leave. I personally wouldn't want her to come back given most of the results under her management.

Will be interesting to see what assistant coaches will join Smith, as there currently aren't any!

£40k per year for that role doesn’t seem a lot unless I’ve missed something.  Better than the under 23s manager job which from memory was advertised at £35k per year.

Maybe reduce wage players wage bill by 0.5% and pay these people proper wages to attract quality

I think the average wage for a player is less than £30k, so I imagine that salary for someone in an backroom type level may suffice.

Will be interesting to see how finances are indeed affected, not just because of COVID but also because of relegation from the WSL

Jasmine Matthews, Yana Daniëls & Jemma Purfield have all left.

Jas & Yana originally left City to join Liverpool then rejoined a few years back. Yana is apparently rumoured to go back to Liverpool from what I've seen elsewhere, but not sure on the other two.

Feel sorry for Jemma, who last year left Liverpool, and has ended up playing for two clubs that both got relegated in subsequent seasons.

Question's finally be answered on where games will be next season.

City Women will be playing their games back in a Bristol postcode after a season away in Bath, albeit somewhere where public transport links aren't so great.

P.S. Bears women rugby team are also moving to the respective Bears High Performance Centre

That's literally all Twerton had going for it. And the station was further away from Twerton than Parkway is to WISE campus.

It now says on the article
"The 24-year-old signed a one-year deal prior to the 2020/21 season with an option for a second, which was not activated by the player"

Then why say it was a two year deal in the first place!?

At best, the fact the team has moved back to Bristol is a huge plus for me (no offence to Bath). I'm still curious as to what players will come in, but the club will need to be impressive in the window. The likes of Liverpool & Coventry United are already making waves with their signings!
