Interesting spot from the Birmingham City website. They've posted that today is the start of the transfer window (which is odd as the season ended well over a month ago). These dates haven't been posted yet on the Bristol City website.FVcCp1lX0AA_5NK?format=jpg&name=900x900

Maybe City can finally announce some signings soon, as well as a retained list, and pre-season fixtures...

This is a bit of a surprise. And with Fran Bentley's status not confirmed, the GK situation at City Women will be interesting (unless replacements are already being thought of)

Also, Whitehouse modelled the new GK kits in the reveal, which is a bit awkward now...

Just like the mens game, the transfer window doesn’t open until a period after the “end of season”.  Mens TW opened last Friday.

News from today that Jesse Woolley signed a new contract. But this time, the length of the contract was confirmed as a one-year deal.
Article mentions how Woolley missed a few games due to injury; so a bit inconsistent due to that.

Just wondering if there'll ever be a retained list; as there are players who have yet to be announced as either retained or have left.
Am expecting news of new arrivals & pre-season details soon...

Melissa Johnson has left City
https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/johnson-departs-robins/

Article says she is "to explore options away from the club".
There was no details of contract length when she joined last summer; so can assume she was only on a one-year contract.

Am surprised she's gone; I thought City could have been the one club where she stayed for longer than a season!
Good luck for her in the future

Was impressed with Coventry when they played recently. Is that club still viable? If not, or the situation is not stable, then there will be plenty of players on the move.

@shahanshahan is the expert but I thought the rescue package last season guaranteed their long term survival

That's what I believe. However, their head coach Jay Bradford left the club soon after the season ended, and assistant Jo Potter has joined Birmingham to be assistant head coach there; so am not sure what to expect from Coventry this season

Also, thanks for calling me an expert! ?

Saw Abi Harrison share this on her IG story, but she's appeared on the "Matchfit Football Podcast" to talk about her youth career, ACL injury in 2019, playing at City & for her country.
If you're interested, you can watch below or find it on podcast platforms. Seemed like an alright listen; found some things that I wasn't aware of

(Speaking of Scotland; they've qualified for the play-offs for next year's Women's World Cup after Ukraine beat Hungary in their group tonight

So things have developed further at Coventry United. The club have announced that they're going back to being part-time. Emma Sanders has tweeted elsewhere that this could mean some players/staff would have to leave to free up finances...

Not sure why it took so long, but it's finally been confirmed. Fran Bentley has signed on a two year deal, following her loan. And looking at the reveal video, will wear #1 that was previously worn by Sophie Whitehouse.

Contract end dates probably.

Had a suspicion that Coventry were in a bit of flux. Don't think they have any connection with Coventry City, so are on their own. Could there be a chance to pick up one or two prospects?

And great news that Fran is going to be between the sticks again. Real feather in City's cap, that.

I think they're completely on their own which is probably part of the reason why they're in such a financial state.

I'd take Mollie Green, scorer of that iconic 97th minute winner that saved the club on the final day at Watford, and possibly Katie Wilkinson too, the captain. They've also got former City stars Charlie Estcourt & Olivia Fergusson too.

It's quite sad that after that extraordinary finish to the last campaign, a lot of the good feeling and momentum seems to have been lost albeit by making a decision that in the medium to long term, should be the right one.

I’m not sure that’s the best form of sign off

I thought they were a really good team, with some talented players when we played them at Coventry.

Some time back now, so maybe those players have moved on.

I actually bumped into Frankie Brown (with Grace Williams) at a book event recently; and this was kept quiet... ?

"Brown, a research fellow at the University of Bath, investigating the role of exercise and immune function in people living with cancer, joins chair Gavin Marshall, Richard Gould, Lisa Knights, Kevin Hamblin, Rosie Hadrill and Mike Jones on the Women’s Board"

Another reason for the league to be expanded! There are also Conti Cup group games that need to be announced, as well as the international breaks.

Seems a coincidence that for the second season in a row, the first & last games are both away. Coventry United away should be interesting; I wasn't able to make that ground last season as that game got moved to a Monday night for no real reason

News that I missed yesterday while I was on my way to Southampton, but 17-year-old academy goalkeeper Erin Foley (who only made 1 senior appearance last season) has been loaned out to non-league Larkhall Athletic for the season. Hopefully she gets a lot of gametime; I don't think she'd get much or any with Fran Bentley or Liv Clark being in goal...

Anita Asante announced as joining the coaching staff!
Recently retired from playing; but also does media work - and is currently doing as such with BBC for the Euros...

Looks a great acquisition to me, great experience and a name that will attract players.

Interesting appointment. Seems previous work with Lauren Smith was key in attracting her to the club. Obviously Asante has a long playing career at club and international level, as well as experience abroad. Just wondering what her coaching qualifications are. Could be this club is beginning to put a real effort into the Women's side.

As someone who has minimal knowledge of the women's game, I'd be intrigued to know whether our squad is seen to have been strengthened with the recent signings? Have we simply signed promising youngsters?

Also, are there any objective outside sources commenting on prospects for the new season?

The oldest of the new signings is Chloe Mustaki, who turns 27 next week. She's done great things in her native Ireland

Signing Fran Bentley permanently is promising. But I feel Liv Clark (who seems to be the in-out replacement for Sophie Whitehouse will give competition).

Shania Hayles is only 22 but had a huge impact for Villa a while ago.

Transfer window is still open until the start of September, I believe. Am not sure what the actual budget is, but at least this season we won't have the likes of Liverpool to compete with in the league

News today that Gwen Davies signed her first (professional) contract with the club, and remains until the end of the season, with an option of a year extension after that.
Didn't realise that when she first joined over the summer from the Welsh leagues, it was on a non-contract basis - this may explain why she wasn't initially announced at the time.

Club announced today that she's left the club, as her deal ended. Either she wasn't offered a new deal, or chose not to sign & is going elsewhere

I actually bumped into Sophie Whitehouse after the England v Spain game at Brighton. Had a chat & said that her new signing would be announced soon.
A day later, and she's announced as joining Lewes, which is only a few miles away from Brighton...

City's first pre-season result made public, by the club they beat!
1-0 win over Leicester yesterday thanks to a Ffion Morgan goal.

https://www.lcfc.com/news/2700389/city-tackle-bristol-city-women-at-belvoir-drive

All of their pre-season games have been behind closed doors, which seems to be a common occurrence in the game. At least the game against Reading next Sunday will be in front of fans

I don't think there will ever be a better time to try and generate interest after the fantastic tournament England have just had.It would certainly be an opportunity missed not to give it a try.

Yes, now is the time. Between City and Bears there’s only 4 games on in September so would probably be a good month in that respect
