A few changes to the line-up today and it looks like they are up for it. Girls are showing some character and resolve, which will set the tone for the rest of the season.

Hopefully a big boost to their confidence, grabbing a 2-2 draw. Villa will wonder how they have not won the game, being so dominant for most of the 2nd half. Having Aspin back in the defence 2nd half made a big positive difference for us.

Recent signing Evans gave us nothing, just like last week. Harrison who came on for her continues to struggle, twice caught in possession nearly leading to Villa goals.

Somehow got a draw out of that! This team are really fighting for everything, got to admire their spirit. If only we had someone like Jordan Nobbs in midfield we'd save an awful lot of energy.

Really enjoyed the game. Hopefully the ladies can take some confidence from this point. It was great to see the effort to come back twice from going behind.

I think we showed Villa a little too much respect with the really poor first 15 from us not helping with that. Villa didn't cope well when we ran at them but we didn't get the quality of ball forward often enough to cause them real trouble. The best aspect of our play was causing Villa to lose the ball in midfield where we pressed them well at times. We picked up a number of loose balls and mixed it up well.

The "Rachel Daly's in a strop" chant got a laugh even from the Villa fans.

A final minute of putting ourselves under needless pressure in our own box led to a heart in mouth moment and I'll have to watch the game back tonight on TV but it did look like the ball struck one of our players on the arm / hand. The Ref seemed to be a homer with a couple of decisions going against us or missed for us.

Overall though, it was a good point. Only time will tell if that's something we can build back on.

Sadly seems to be that way

Even if West Ham, Brighton and Everton lose all of their remaining games, City women would need to get 2 wins from somewhere.

Without knowing their remaining fixtures I can’t see that happening

Remaining fixtures:

Leicester (A) (losing 2-0 to Man City at the moment) - Sunday 18th Feb

Brighton (H) (currently managerless & 11th after losing 2-0 to Man Utd today) - Sunday 3rd March

Man Utd (A) - Sunday 17th Mar

Spurs (H) - Sunday 24th Mar

Arsenal (A) - Sunday 31st Mar

Liverpool (H) - Sat 20th Apr

Man City (H) - Sun 28th Apr

Chelsea (A) - Sun 5th May

Everton (H) - Sat 18th May

My best bet is that we'd have to points from the Leicester & Brighton games, at least

Yep both those games plus nothing to fear from Everton & Liverpool based on the away games. Hopefully we can beat, or not lose, to Leicester & Brighton and hope it's not all over come the Everton match.

Can you work out why our away results are so much better than home?

Must be very disheartening to be involved in a team where you pretty much know you’re going to lose most fixtures because you can’t compete.
Has  anyone ever put it to the owner why he doesn’t seem bothered about having successful teams playing in the shiny infrastructure.

It seems a strange way to operate. The women are pulling in some decent crowds which must generate some decent revenue,

Relegation will massively impact that revenue

I think the ones that have received their P45s the next day. Remember it’s his clubs and his money! Don’t understand why anyone like him gets involved in sport if they don’t want the glory? SL could find enough cash down the side of his sofa to help keep the girls up. Truly baffling and very sad for all those involved with City ladies who thought the recent promotion was the start of bigger things. I can’t understand it with the high profile of women’s football now but then I can understand when I remember who’s running the show. It will be a happy day for me when the Lansdowns move on.

How very sad.

Hope I’m not being disrespectful, but I hope the person who passed away, got to see Carrie Jones’s goal. (Mods - delete if so)

RIP fellow red.

They were taken ill after the game

Another thing we chased promotion for a couple of seasons, we were pushing Liverpool a couple of seasons ago before fading away badly towards the end of the season

Last year, we pushed on through this period and gained a really hard fought promotion

Look at how Liverpool built their side to what we've done, absolutely chalk and cheese

Looking at the Championship we'll have to be on top of our game all season to even be challenging

I have a horrible feeling this is going to put us back many years

We've definitely ridden the crest of the Lionesses doing well and worked hard to get decent crowds in.

In hindsight looking at our home record does the away side raise their game more playing in a large stadium with decent crowds?

The club will have to work really hard to get supporters to continue watching if they switch back to the HPC

Don't really think they have to raise their games much .

Quite. I've only seen them on the faplayer this season, but yep, to me it just looks like we are a poor side + maybe added pressure at home not helping. Perhaps @shahanshahan wants to comment, having probably seen most/all of the games this season 😱.

Sadly, cidercity1987, I was not at that game so don't have a view. I was at a Western League match and was involved in a rally that evening too so could not go. What I will say is that West Ham's shock win is really making things more difficult for us now, naturally; the draw at Villa now has less aura. I can only hope the girls will pick up and find points like the Hammers and that the clutch of teams now on even terms above us will have one that crumbles as the season draws on.

I feel the side is beginning to benefit from returning injuries and that there is potential for better results. Mathematically there are plenty of opportunities, but the winnable games are in short supply. It will be a real test.

Also sad to hear about the fan collapsing at Villa. Puts a different perspective on things.

I like the one about half way down where I think Connolly & Daly had a slight disagreement, Daly had a go at one of our other players later if I recall.

She didn't like to mix it up. Came across as a bit of a moaner hence the "Rachel Daly's in a strop" chant which raised a laugh even from the home support.

We did say on the day that the Ref was a homer. She may as well have been wearing a Villa shirt at times.

Thankfully it's been dealt with now.

I'd rather Rachel was on the pitch. Any idea how much longer she'll be out?

Match tickets for both of these games go on sale from Tuesday 2pm.

What the tweet preview doesn't mention (but the website articles do) is that the corresponding coaches have a 24 hour priority window for ST holders to book their seats

Abi played against England, thought she did OK when she was on the pitch. Good to see three City players though.

Lauren Smith's press conference has just come out, which mentions that Abi didn't get a call-up due to picking up an ankle injury last week (therefore won't be available this weekend).
She also confirmed that there was an in-house game played last week, which included some academy players.
Also, Sarah Stratigakis is out for this week due to illness, and everyone else still injured (Fran Bentley, Satara Murray, Rachel Furness etc) are still injured

Abi out until after the break. Lauren talked about changing the shape of the side over the season using as an example Megan Connolly moving into midfield. Not sure about that, based on what I saw in the Villa game, think she's a better defender. Embarrassment of riches at centre half with Connolly, Aspin & Layzell.

Not sure why we're gonna be in the third kit when it was fine for the men's team to wear the red kit at the King Power earlier this season.

However, the women's team have got most of their points wearing the third kit. So maybe it's lucky...

Awful first 20 minutes, can't keep hold of the ball or make any simple passes

Fortunately Leicester are as deadly in front of goal as their mens team were yesterday

Yep. cool finish 1-0 up now. Need more of the ball to prevent defeat though.
