INCRED
21 hours ago, Better Red said: What evidence ? Watching him play is the main one. Its not convenient that’s what I saw - maybe Holden & Pearson do as well. A wide forward if you won’t to use that term - Deff Yes and Deff top end of the Championship - Deff yes In my opinion he is more effective for us and will be through out his career playing wide of the main Striker. I am not saying he is not a good player ( read my comments from way back always have said I like him) Lets see what happens and see if he plays through the middle now he is fit. 2 questions that was posed from my post 1 - Can he score goals at this level ? I questioned that and clearly he can. 2 - Is he a main Striker through the middle - I said No and I still say the same. Is he closer today than when I posted the comment? clearly. I stand by the comment at the time and he’s goal scoring record stands up to that comment at the time like it or not. Can he play as a main Striker ? He’s only problem is Conway at the moment is looking like a ‘ Striker who can score goals and ‘play through the middle - And wow by the way who thought we would be saying that ( unless someone wants to disagree…) Will my opinion change ? Sure it well as the players improve or go backwards. Can I be wrong - Sure like everyone else game of opinions. So back to the question can he play through the - Yes The real question is will he (that’s the test - if managers believe if can he will) My opinion is he will be the wide player not the player through the middle. So have I changed my mind about the position- No Have I changed my opinion about will he score goals - yes so is he a Striker - still maybe Big Question ? It’s tough one. Both fully fit who’s would you play through the middle - Conway (started less than 10 Championship games). Or Seymenyo ? Don’t say both…. I know who I will pick. AS is not a natural No9 like Conway or Wells, he is a player who will power towards the opposition defence and cause havoc but will get his fair share of goals. He appears to have developed and been coached to do this role and I dare say his assist ratio may be more of an advantage than his goals scored. If he stays after this window and bangs in 10 goals before January and provides the same amount of assists then his value will be significantly more than it is currently and clubs will be clamouring for his services - I hope we can resist and push for a top 6 place but a lot depends on Wells, Weimann & Conway’s form/fitness

Front 3 - who would play down the middle Conway or Seymenyo ? No right or wrong answer. Its only an opinion. I have said Conway because all my comments above. We don’t play a front 3 so it’s irrelevant? We play 2 strikers, so Conway AND Semenyo is possible (though a bit harsh on Wells at the moment) Why can’t you just accept you’re wrong? Semenyo is not better wide of a 3 as that’s where he was playing when you said he couldn’t score? 2

Redtrojan
I know this is about Semenyo ,but to be perfectly honest wherever he plays up front along with the other guys we are a handful for anyone. If we could only sort out the defence we would have a great chance of going up this season.

Cannybluff
Is the point being made that a natural 9 would be something like a Lineker, Fowler type player... more a poacher and alert in the box player. Antoine"s strengths seem to be running at or behind players. I think for me that he can do both. He has shown more recently that his finishing is pretty clinical, especially with the power with which he can strike the ball. That said, I think him picking up the ball deep and running at players or using his power/strength/pace to get onto through balls is exceptional. Its good because he isn't necessarily pigeon holed to one particular role but can effectively adapt to different phases of the game.

He has had a few good games and I got reminded of my post. But I still stand by my option he won’t make a championship striker. I said he won’t get 10 goals a season and I stand by that call. Wide in a front 3 yes but he still has to score at least 6 a season. If he can’t then for me then we find someone who can. O’Dowda should have been let go for the same reason 2 seasons ago. So if he ain’t a striker then Wells has to play as one of the front 3. If we play with a 2 then for me it’s Martin. Goals win you games and we have to find the right mix of players that in a attacking 3 who get 10 games plus a season. If we don’t then we wont progress to the next level. So for me it’s simple he plays but if he ain’t scoring then we try someone else. For me it’s a bit like Massengo we all want the youngsters to be the answer and we have to give them time but eventually you have to make a honest judgment. Some times it does not work out. Bakinson is now way ahead of him and that was in just 12 months. Time will tale. I know I will get questioned for this post. I am sure I will be reminded of this post if he starts to score goals. Hopefully I will. But honestly ask yourself is he a championship striker? Yes. Yes, he is.

Stand off him, he runs at you, go tight & he’ll do you for pace, try the physical stuff and it doesn’t work, he’s bloody strong. Nightmare to play against, last season on a couple of occasions he robbed a defender of the ball due to his acceleration over short distances, as a consequence they dropped deep & so he ran at them. I would be more worried about the January window, if he continues to consistently impress? City quite rightly want big money for him, and i believe Prem teams will be closely monitoring him over the next few months to make sure he is doing it week in, week out? Lanterne Rouge
The thing is, as the season goes on, opposition players `find out` raw talent and learn how to counter it. Good luck with doing that with Antoine, you can `find him out` all you like, stopping him doing it is another thing entirely.
ralphindevon
I was thinking yesterday about being like Akinbiyi but on reflection I think he’s going to be a far better player. Just every time I see him he goes up I’m my estimation and when I first saw him I thought very highly of him. Thought he should have had the match ball yesterday, played 80 minutes this season and has scored 3 goals

By the end they are so intimidated they are reduced to hoofing it anywhere when he gets near. Yep. Not identical but similar to the Vardy effect when Leicester won the league. defenders were terrified of him. His presence caused panic before he even did anything. You could feel a lift of excitement that spread through the stadium when he picked up the ball. Whenever he has it near the box and a slither of space the ball really could end up in the goal at any given point. Thrilling player

It’s brilliant to have a player who can score goals like that and strike fear into defences.

Semenyo"s goals were absolutely electric and unstoppable. Fulham didn't know what hit them.............well, for 30 minutes anyway!
