This was very interesting reaidng from gasincider:

So maybe the takeover has already happened with Higgs selling a 36% stake.

Hope the buyer wasn't Steve Lansdown.

One person is not allowed to own a stake in more than any one football club in this country and hasn't been since Robert Maxwell owned Oxford and Derby back in the 80's

This could mean the new investor has taken up a minority shareholding and could be outvoted by the current board and Geoffrey Dunford who will between them control 51% of the issued shares unless new shares have been issued.

If true it seems safe to assume the new investor is more likely to be an independent businessman rather than HH Prince Ali of Jordan himself and, having identified the undoubted business acumen of Nicholas and his colleagues, this person wishes them to remain in charge and look after his investment.

There are rather a lot of these types of people in the Middle East and most of them don't wear the kind of vests you find at Marks & Spencer.

I am led to believe that the board of BRFC received an email from a Nigerian Princess, she has a fortune just waiting to be ploughed into a shabby, ragbag outfit.  To enable the funds to be brought into the country, board members had to gift her no small quantity of shares and the clubs bank account details for her to transfer the sum of $300M dollars.  Once this was done, she would give favours to the requisite officials to ease her passage to the UK and reclaim her money, leaving Piggs to see that she was a 18 stone transvestite all along, who was just after a visa for the UK.

I had one like that and am just waiting for the paperwork to arrive that confirms I now own 80% of the Nigerian oil industry. I`ve used my life savings and I`ve remortgaged my house to pay the processing fees but I reckon it will be worth it.

Would you like to add an investment in Bristol Rovers (1883) Ltd to your portaloo ?

Hmm, maybe I missed a trick, I did receive a similar email myself several weeks ago, I screenshot it and put it on FB, quite a few of my 'friends' urged me to comply and send the requested processing fee and bank account details, I was a little busy at work and forgot, seems I may have wasted a huge opportunity............

I found a small cloth bag in the loft, it has a couple of Victorian pennies in it, a farthing, a thrupenny bit, a silver sixpence and a couple of French coins.  Not sure of the value, but I'd happily donate them to ensure the gift keeps giving for a few more days.......

Sorry Bert, I`m only interested in genuine investments that will provide me with a good low risk return so it`s the Nigerians I`m afraid. I will of course alert Nicholas to any other similar investment opportunities that I should happen to hear about so he can clean up too.

He could of course send out e-mails along similar lines in his own right as a solution to the club`s financing problems - lets face it, it`s the only thing he`s not tried yet!

I think you've been conned. You can't own 80% of the Nigerian oil industry as I've already bought the shares. They amount to, 65% from the crown Prince, 25% from the crown Princess and the other 7.5% from the crown post office of Nigeria. Double check who the email was from as I've already got the share certificates.

Huh! Sez you! My communication is from the desk of Mr Sunday Okobe who is the Minister for Oil and Other Stuff and I think you`ll find he is beyond reproach. If my documents were from so called `royalty` I`d be very suspicious.

I think it`s you who`s fallen for the oldest trick in the book mate - I`ll give you a wave from my private helicopter which will be bringing me to Ashton Gate in the not too distant future.

Pha! Your helicopter won't have any oil, as I'll have it all. They sent me a sample with the share certificates. Admittedly, it was a little runny and a funny shade of yellow but, hey, a sample's a sample. I think it was crude oil.

Damn you Rich, it looks like I may have been had after all. Still, I`m sure the bailiffs will be sympathetic to my plight and understand that anyone could have fallen for such a sophisticated ruse.

I shall be writing a very strong letter to Mr Okobe demanding an explanation as I`m sure he will be as surprised as I am at this alarming turn of events.

As I am now a wealthy oil baron, I am willing to fund your court costs against Mr Okobe should you decide to take the matter further. Just send me your bank details and I'll deposit enough money into your account  for your expenses as well. PS. don't send them in an open reply, PM me the details so nobody can see them and exploit you.

Rovers Takeaway Latest.............. Events took an unexpected twist this afternoon but, speaking from Winford Orthopaedic Hospital, Chairman Nicholas Higgs said it was simply a typing error and he expected to be up and about within a few days. Meanwhile a no fly zone has been imposed over central Jordan and the Golan Heights but this is not expected to impact local businessmen taking the p*ss because most of them wear thobes. However, as a precaution, householders in the Horfield and Bishopston areas are being advised to stay indoors with their windows and doors closed in case there is a gas leak. So, with news that work is expected to start as early as April it's back to Peter O'Hanraha-handjob in the UWE erection special studio, over to you Peter.

Nicholas always said he would only sell out to someone with the best interests of the club at heart and certainly not to some foreign fly boy who was willing to pay him back his money with no questions asked.

We didn't believe him then and ...

BRISTOL ROVERS: Influential Jordanian family at advanced stage in talks over significant investment

BRISTOL Rovers are at an advanced stage in talks with a Jordanian family interested in making a significant investment in the club, the Bristol Post understands.

Rovers have continually made public a desire to attract new investment and recently confirmed that as many as 12 groups of potential investors had expressed interest, which failed to materialise into anything significant.

Yet, the Post has learned that Rovers have been in ongoing discussions with the Al-Qadi family, who are significant shareholders in the Arab Jordan Investment Bank (AJIB), for several months and an announcement that a deal has been signed is believed to be imminent.

The family, which is considered one of the most influential in Jordan due to their banking and tourism interests, is headed by Abdulkader Al-Qadi, who founded AJIB in 1978.

The Post understands that the investment is a "family commitment" but that one of Al-Qadi's three sons, Wael, would take a lead in managing the investment at board level.

Currently working as an assistant general manager at AJIB, Wael has a keen interest in football and has held positions at both the Jordan Football Association and the Asian Football Development Project, which was founded by FIFA presidential candidate HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein.

He is a keen Chelsea supporter as a result of being schooled in London as a youngster before going on to complete his education in America at firstly, Boston University, and then, Harvard Business School.

Several members of the family are expected to be present at the club's annual Valentine's Ball tomorrow night after taking in Rovers' League Two game against Morecambe at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

well well well,

If true they are about to become everything they hate about us, always in our shadow always hypocrites,

Who thinks that this will go through and this family are only doing this to get hold of the land for development, putting rovers in the postion of chester, Darlington and wimbledon of years gone by?,

I wait with baited breath

Interesting, look at rich foreign owners coming in not understanding clubs it normally goes tits up, Blackburn, forest etc. Id be excited if I was a sag but apprehensive too

If I was a sag it'd take a lot more than an EP article to convince me.  Why would a family with such wealth be looking at BRFC rather than a massive club known to be looking to sell like Aston Villa who already have the infrastructure and just need quids chucked at players? There's plenty of other clubs who are in or close to the Prem and isn't going to be an at best medium-term project.

I am not so sure, I haven't read all the thread on their forum but does it go into so much detail about who is involved and which son would be the driving force on the board? That seems quite detailed for a cut and paste job.

More to the point, have these guys been shown the books and be happy to fund UWE?

Lets face the truth here.. If this goes through then the UWE stadium will be built with the full 21,000 capacity and they could become a serious threat to us in no time. Hopefully this is the wake up call we need to get our own act together.

I seem to remember some 'serious investors' coming into City a few years ago, guaranteeing top flight football, a major trophy and European football within a certain time frame- I won't be holding my breath.

Serious question. In the days of FFP, at L2 level, how much of an impact can this sort of investment have now?

I guess the stadium could get built, which could increase turnover, but would you get 18-21k watching L2 football when there's a 27k, hopefully, Championship team down the road?

I'm assuming they can't bankroll loads of transfers and high wages instantaneously, so can't see how this will have a huge, quick impact, unless they suddenly get lucky in the transfer market and find some cheap gems.

I know that. But I've always been comfortable with the fact that you are a rag bag outfit that scrape by day to day and have never been a serious threat to us. Even when we totally collapse (ie 2006, 2013) we could still rely on the fact that you'd be well below us.

I don't like the idea of you suddenly having a lot of money and ambition. We'd have to start looking over our shoulders and that would be unsettling.

I have visions of a press conference with some sort of fake sheik talking with an implausible middle eastern accent  of his plans for Rovers, and then Scooby Doo style, Darryl running up and ripping of the disguise exclaiming 'Nick! It was you all along' followed by NH mumbling 'and I would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kids!'

Wake up call?  We're 2/3rds of the way through a stadium redevelopment which will take the capacity up to 27,000 - when they've not even broken ground on a much smaller stadium and we're two leagues higher than them with not much likelihood of that gap changing. What wake up call do we need?

If true, has this all come about due to that seemingly ridiculous article/advert a Rovers' supporting journalist had published in a Middle Eastern newspaper extolling their 'virtues' and absurdly saying what a fantastic club they'd be to take over?
