He may be able to flex his financial muscles to purchase the Rolls Royce land and a hotel there would be a better idea than a hotel at UWE where two other hotels are within a stones throw. Gut feeling is a new stadium will be built to a different spec (maybe bigger) at a different location with a hotel and all the club facilities on one site, but that is just a feeling. Whatever the outcome it's going to be one hell of a journey and in 3-5 years the club will be unrecognisable to how it is today IMO. I don't know where this 'universities aren't allowed to profit' line comes from. They're financially independent institutions, expected to make the most of their assets. Oxford University is a major landowner and coins it in from that. If UWE have land they don't need, why shouldn't they sell it? If it's effectively on a permanent lease, with a stadium on it, it's not as if they could do anything else with it themselves. I assumed the lease arrangement was to help a skint football club to fund the stadium (not enough, as it turned out). If that's not required, bank it upfront. I've no grasp on this strips of land thing: what strips of land, where's this come from, and (maybe relevant to the where they are thing), what's their significance? I agree with Astafjev's thought that it might be easy for the locally inexperienced to overestimate the chances of finding an alternative site and getting planning permission for a blue sky rethink. Maybe the talks with S Glos have encourage it, though. Her indoors works at the higher education funding council and seems to think that there could be a clause in selling the land previously owned by HP on to a private investor, I misunderstood what she was saying first time around, not for the first nor last time! The new owners might have taken over by buying out the previous directors - i e paying them the money they had lent the club. On the other hand, Nick Higgs and Co. may have realised that they had no way to pay the Wonga loan in the summer and, the longer they stayed with the club, the worse their personal financial position would become. In this case, they may have been prepared to right off some of their personal loans, meaning the new owners are only responsible for non-directors debts. This would be a relatively cheap way to buy the club, based on the value of the land.

Although details of the transaction have not been disclosed it is interesting that those who had the most to gain by their debt being repaid seem happy whereas those who possibly expected a windfall for selling their shares do not appear overjoyed. And apparently no offer was made to the shareholders still left with 8% of the equity ? But the big question remaining unanswered is the commitment to the future because Nicholas had repeatedly said he would only sell to someone who could show they had a plan to take Rovers forward and prove they had the funds to implement that plan. Where is the plan ? The other interested party are said to have had a plan which included building the UWE Stadium to it's full specification and injecting substantial cash into the football club to help elevate the team up the leagues. ciderage
Haven't read every page, but common thought is, if the Jordanians were flush with banking millions they'd have bought a decent team. They may have £70m, but they're not spending al that on the Gash, like SL didn't spend his fortune on us. Hoping this provides stability, banter was so much better when Bristol rivalry was closer.

One BCFC
My genuine prediction for Rovers in the next 2/3 years... They will get promotion to League 1. Struggle for the first 3/4 months and Clarke will get sacked. Holloway their god will come back and they will talk of Premier League once more and will struggle. They'll languish around L1 for years and do not a lot. They'll still claim they're a bigger, better supported club than us, somehow they're richer and we're really jealous. Glad my Dad was a City fan, imagine being one of them!!

I managed to watch 20 minutes of Chelski v Manc and it showed everything that is shit about modern footballers and football, a team who were crap enough to get the manager sacked suddenly remember how to play the against a team who occasionally put in enough effort over a full 90 minutes, diving, atmosphere of a morgue and as Shearer rightly pointed out Pelegrini talking out of his arse about team selection reference players being able to occasionally play 3 games in 7 days, funnily enough though the best players in the world (Roanaldo, Messi, Neymar and Suarez) manage it when called upon and in fact revel in it, all of them millionaires and one of them playing with a face like a smacked arse because having signed a newish contract he wants to play for PSG in Europe's other one horse race (after Scotland). The only good news was at last one of these 2 clubs were forced to acknowledge that they actually have academies and play a few. Fiale
This is a old thread, and the only one on Rovers where everything Rovers related gets put - that's one of the main reasons it's so large. I'd rather this than like it used to be with lots of Rovers threads clogging the front page - maybe they could just sticky it and label it "Everything Rovers Related" so it's out of the way ? Coombsy
The accounts show the bank with profits after tax of 24m Jordanian dinars, roughly the same in pounds. That is not a lot for a bank. Our guy owns 4% . A quick Google search puts his holdings worth USD 22m. Say £16m. So not a billionaire. The bank only pays 12m in total salaries so he’s not getting wealth that way. The total net assets of the bank are 250m dinar. The estimated market value per a Google search is 300m dinar. It is a tiny bank. I am really struggling to see why our guy is seen as a billionaire. I am delighted he is on board. He appears passionate, he has some money but not substantial amounts.

Ah, but I'm sure the Gas, with Al-Qazi's money behind them, would be a different prospect

I'd bin it if the majority of people wanted it to go, however we might find we have 5-6 topics on them every weekend instead.. No problem fella...just thought it would be good to hide the thread a little, as it seems we are lowering ourselves to the level of the Gas by constantly discussing what they do...rather than focussing on ourselves...especially on match day...and an important game to pull away further...all good mate.

That remark is about as far removed from what i would say on any thread about our 'esteemed' blue Bristolians! However, that said, I cannot help but enjoy reading what you have written. I have to expand on that and say its almost John Cooper Clarke-esque in its simplicity and clarity. I sort of get your point and I was going to argue that this is a forum to discuss all things football, but then realised that we were talking about the Gas and my argument just fizzled away really.

Is this true..? He can't even afford to cover the cost of their new stadium, IF it's accurate..? I was under the impression that he was at least a billionaire..?
