You are getting mixed up with Sir Geoffrey Hower.

Our Chairman is actually Sir Stephen Hamster with a "t" as in toilets..

I'm afraid I'm guilty of 'make sure you proof read your post before you go on a self righteous rant' syndrome.

Who needs the UWE when they have got state-of-the-art developments going on at the Mem?

It has been painted to match the piss-stains on Santa's Grotto.

I do like the name 'Brunel Professional Risks South Stand'....it sounds very impressive....Please tell me that's not the ******* tent?

As for this control tower, modified Shipping Containers are often seen flying around and eventually landing at various locations within the Stade de Mem. There's nothing tinpot about the Gas....

Yes it is Peter, and of course it's named after one of the greatest civil engineers England has ever produced.

As Chairman Stephen Hamster put it so eloquently in his Bristol Post column announcing Rovers latest alternative to the moribund UWE scheme  " If only he was alive today, what better man could there be to design our new 50 000 capacity Great Western Stadium than Isambard Kingdom Risks"

Given Wally refuses to write a cheque so small as to pay for a stadium, I assume that at some point they will have to sell the Mem to part fund their new one.

Won't this lead to another couple of years delay as planning permission, objections and community status claims are all made?

Today's news about the elevation of certain war memorials around the country, whilst not affecting the Memorial Ground yet, may perhaps cause them issues sometime in the future if Historic England turn its attentions in its direction?

I believe if enough Bristolians make their feelings known about the plans of Bristol Rovers towards a war memorial then perhaps the Ministry will take notice.

This blog(?) makes interesting reading on the memorial status and appears to take a sensible view towards the gates, especially towards the bottom...

Hasn't heard of this before

It was recently announced by Clare Campion-Smith, the Lord Mayor of Bristol, that the city’s Ceremony of Remembrance in 2016 will be held at the Memorial Stadium. Usually the service and parade is held at the Cenotaph in the city centre, but this area is being remodelled for Metrobus. The directors of Bristol Rovers FC, who own the Memorial Ground, have kindly offered to host the event.

Hence the additional shipping containers and portaloos, no doubt.

How thoughtful of them, only 5minutes ago they wanted to flow the ground for a fiver and get rid of everything the ground stands for, fickle twerps

That is a garden shed to the left of the container?

Got to give it to The Gas, a worthy effort to raise the standard of their facilities.

I understand they are trying to recreate a period in time when they had great success. They are now transforming the Memorial Ground into "Azteca Twerton".

You are confused, you don't have a plan, you have a "Pan", it's been moved to behind the terrace for your convenience.

The plan is...............

There is no plan.

He has no money, his family will not front him the money, he cannot raise the funds.

Even more so now the currency markets and stock markets have bombed, nobody wants to lend to a minor - insignificant football club.

"Thousand Foot Bargepole" is the most overused comment.

How do I know this? Numerous associates in the City have been approached and revel in telling me knowing I take a passing interest in a shambles of a (and I put this loosely) 'football club'.

Oh and a very disgruntled, senior figure who's at the end of their wits with the situation.

As a fan of football, I urge once again their supporters have to start asking very searching questions, it's going to end badly.

Mmmmmm,        suggest your friends in the city are of the living rough type , as stock markets are higher than last week, and low pound means cheaper for foreign investors!

(still agree that no one sane would invest in Blue few)

Agree cheaper for foreign investors...if they could raise the funds their end, but they cannot.

Volatility means what's being lent is to sound investments and as we  all know this isn't one of those.

The upgrades (if you can call them that) aren't an indication of UWE being shelved, more that they actually have some cash to install a converted steel container and a new roof for the tent to 'smarten' the place up whilst UWE gets sorted.

UWE will happen for them. 100%

I thought they weren't starting the car park until October? Maybe......possibly......with a fair following wind.....

You could well be right. With so much progress on the new stadium and current developments at the Mem, it's hard to keep track of it all.

This says they need to begin work by October....

http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/bristol-rovers-news-club-hoping-break-ground/story-28971619-detail/story.html

"There is a requirement to start work on a car park on that site by October and that is our next target. UWE have 30,000 students and because they are building in other areas they are losing car parking space. That is the next definitive target and would really be the first smoke signal of real progress on the project."

Have they started now and I missed that news or is this still valid?

"Tent-like structure"?

That's like saying Rovers are "pikey-like"

They are waiting for someone to knock on their door and offer their services "Would you like your drive Tarmacked?"

Until this point no ground will be 'broken'.

Who'd be a Billionaire eh?

We're certainly pushing out the boat on this one .. upgrading all over the ground .. you're just jealous. .

Boat. What boat?

I knew you had ground water-issues at the cabbage patch but has it got that bad?

I guess I seriously underestimated Wally.

I thought your tent was the trigger for his interest in your Club and was going to inspire him to create an Arabian theme for your stadium revamp. Clearly, he's now scrapped that plan and picked up on you as 'Pirates' and is going to develop that idea. Pirate ship stands! Genius.

Ps has Higgs issued a statement saying they'll be 'watertight' yet?

I suppose a tent is good for a forward moving club. They can take it with them when they move to the new car park at UWE.

With the astonishing revelations about the Matt Taylor signing it is hard to fathom that just over a year ago he was plying his trade in  non-league football at a West Country backwater. But now, as one of the greatest strikers to ever don the famous quarters, it is unsurprising that comparisons are being made between Taylor and that other great international centre forward, Geoff Bratwurst, whom I signed in 1949 a year before I joined the club.

Geoff had been on trial at Nuremberg (and IMO was lucky to get away with a fine) so we were up against some stiff opposition for his signature. But my struggle eventually paid off and we invited him to our summer camp at Weston-Super-Mare where he soon became the life and soul of the party. Back in those days I had developed a series of groundbreaking training routines, including barefoot mine clearance, but the bulk of the work was still derived from things which Fred and I had picked up in the army such as push up’s, squat jumps and gonorrhea.

Young Bratwurst was something of a rebel and, like Taylor, enjoyed nothing more than a practical joke at the expense of his manager. Of course  he was completely house trained, so our replica trophies remained untarnished, but his idea of fun was to kick the footballs as far as he could out into the sea and watch as I struggled to retrieve them. “Go on boss” he would shout, “you old stick in the mud”. Luckily a tragedy was averted with the appearance of the Kewstoke lifeboat which ensured I was still around to mastermind a decade of unparalleled success at Bristol Rovers.

(to be continued)

On this forum there are frequent jibs at the entire town of Swindon, not just it's football team. Their speedway team is trying to get a new track and the story has become a long drawn out saga, which is why I've posted in this thread. This comment below is from a speedway forum and sounds soooooo similar to the UWE ground for Rovers story.

Certain people at the stadium also keep claiming that planning permission has been granted and that construction was just about to start.  I have no idea where they get their information from.  I have been hearing this for at least a year.

He's either signing for Celtic, Reading, Brentford, Hibs, or us. All the others have offered him £7k a week and we've offered him £3.5k plus bonuses.

This is the gossip. He is taking a long time to make up his mind, and he's now out of contract since the end of June and not being paid.

Perfect signing for City really.  Best to jump in quick. Top scorer in the Football League last season.  Go for it.

So he's no longer a Rover's player?

If he didn't play for you lot and have such an affiliation with you I'm sure we'd be much more interested.
