They’ve got a tricky few games coming up...

I know it’s early but if they don’t get something from Wycombe they could quite easily end the month with nil points.

Wycombe (A)

Pompey (H)

Southend (H)

So my gas head (mates) at work are feeling a little bit nervy already

Look forward to seeing how McGoalsky does against them...

In case you’ve forgotten today is the 38th anniversary of when Rovers south stand burnt down at Eastville.  It was a wooden structure and was about to be condemned as it didn’t meet safety standards. As a result of the  fire Rovers received an insurance payout. Some people, at the time, claimed that the fire was started deliberately to get this money though, of course, I couldn’t say that. One result of the fire was that their trophy room was destroyed and all their trophies lost. I’m not sure what these trophies were, but I’m sure they were interesting

Don't worry, it hasn't spread to the canteen yet.

Ah the spiritual home of the “loyal & true”. Very sad.

I bet you they all turned up to say goodbye to the old girl in its farewell match..?!

What...? 3,000....?!

Did Rovers get a pay out?  I thought it was owned by the Bristol Greyhound Company when the fire took place.

Steve Hamer, chairman of Bristol Rovers, said an investigation was under way and the action was "not acceptable".

He said: "We have had a major refit in the clubhouse and our bars this summer and we've got 14-15 new TVs all in place and I suspect there was an area of vulnerability there and somebody has hacked into it.

I bet it was those gert Ted's!

They dont need to have an investigation for that, someone just asked for the CRICKET to be put on....

Sunday afternoon wasn't it? I was driving along the M32 going out of town and couldn't believe it.

If memory serves the manager at the time was Don Megson and when he asked about whether any cups had been destroyed the fire service said not to worry as the fire hadn't reached the canteen.

Later that season the trophy room was burgled and the entire contents were stolen. Police later apprehended two men who were in possession of 20 square yards of blue carpet.

Why? They didn't own the Stadium and it's stands. At the most they should have been paid for any club possessions inside at the time.

The Dunford's managed to purchase the Hambrook training ground from the insurance proceeds if memory serves me correctly. They then sold it and bought the Beeches and rented the facilities to Rovers.

In their own minds the blue few think that they have some sort of special relationship with QPR going back to the Gerry Francis era on through the Hollowhead years.   QPR fans on the other hand just see them as the 5h!t team from Bristol.

can't wait for QPR to beat us 1-0 then the blue few win on penalties against them and claim they're championship ready.

Also get ready for Gash logic suggesting they have a better support than us comparing away followings at QPR even though our game there is available to domestic fans which will no doubt hit the numbers travelling, and that is a big day out for them.

But that’s the “true” yardstick of support - not the fact they had less Tues night at the Mem-onanism Ground than we took to Deepdale in 2015.

Can't wait for the following from the boring blue:

We took more away fans to somewhere we haven't been in years.

QPR fans like us more.

QPR said we sang the loudest.

QPR said we had more fingers than you.

Yeah, here we go again...

QPR, another ground we visit practically every season. According to the Internet Rovers haven’t been there for 38 years. They’ll sell out their Cup Final, make some noise for once, then gloat that they take twice as many away as ‘da shit’...but they’ll obviously ignore the fact that for bread and butter away matches in the League they don’t make anywhere near the same effort. :laughcont:

One 15er claiming that Queens Park W*****s' Loftus Road ground is a "lovely stadium".

So far out of touch; not understanding that with Brentford's (current ground) it is the worst in the Championship !

Maybe it was...38 years ago.

And yes it’s a dump, horrible ground that many of us actively choose not to go to. But as said it will be their big day out (barring Sunderland away) this season. Bless.

Such a "lovely stadium" that most Hoops fans cannot wait for the club to finalise new ground plans.

26 years since they played there in a league game, they'll take a decent following.
You'll know if they take loads, they take as many/more than we did = all over social media, they take less = silence

From the pits to the Ritz.

They will be amazed at seeing an all seater stadium with four stands, yes FOUR stands, that's not a cricket pavillion, half a stand, a few tents, a selection of white plastic garden furniture and a few odius looking garden sheds that they're used to. They'll be expecting the Queen and other dignitaries to be introduced to the players beforehand and of course Her Highness will be presenting the Watney Cup afterwards.

The reality is however, for Championship teams, is that this is a cramped little stadium that's been left behind by most clubs at this level. It's still incredible that they advise that you can't see the touch line thinking that as long as they've told the long suffering away fans then its alright.

Still, the sags will have plenty in common with them, they too have a massive chip and think they are chelsea when the reality is they're more like a Barnet.

Are they hoping to relocate?

This cup tie could be huge for the gas, if they don't leave at the end of the match they could squat in a new stadium. They aren't bothered about home grounds being outside Bristol, do they?

Enjoying this thread from the Hello Portishead page. Not sure if you need access to read it though, sorry.

Eleven quid to get from Portishead to the swamp and back? I`d expect it to include lunch and a free pint at that price!

Their new system, as far as I can gather, is the same one we had in the Atyeo about ten years ago. I wonder what we did with our old ones? Has Wally been sniffing round scrapyards in south Bristol?

Clubs often sell parts of their stadia when they get upgraded.

We sold our first set of floodlights to Burton Albion in the mid 60’s.

Maybe Rovers got this turnstile system from Salford as a part of the deal with the player who left them for Salford.

Wigan, unless my fading memory is failing me.

Have seen people saying about stuff being sold to Wigan before though.

It's both innit...

1965: Division Three runners-up 1964/65, promoted to Division Two. The original set of floodlights erected in 1953 were sold to Burton Albion and a new set were officially switched on with a friendly against Wolverhampton Wanderers the same club which provided the opposition for the 1953 switch-on.

1992: Andy Cole is signed from Arsenal in July for a club record fee of £500,000. The old floodlight pylons are given to Wigan Athletic.

Harry Dolman invented the automatic turnstile in the 1930's (coin operated initially), so they haven't even caught up with that yet!

That quote is brilliant. Can feel their pain ?

They seem to have replaced the ‘stand’ that they took down with one almost identical from what I understand. If they are baffled we don’t have a hope of understanding!

This whole thread sums it all up.

Compare where we thought we might be when the owners took over, and look at where we are now.

Debating metal vs canvas roofs, some being happy with a bit of painted plywood, losing all our best players and signing cast-offs and risks, treading water at best in L1 with no real prospect of promotion, no news from the owners, no new stadium, no training ground, no plans for the future, a real risk of losing DC, season ticket sales down, prices up, attendances down,

Not quite what some of us had hoped for in those early days.

If the rest of you are happy with where we are now, then you must be easily pleased.

My opinion, or whine, is that you are deluding yourselves.
