Dopey hasn’t thought this through UNLESS he just wants the gardening leave pay off and has no further ambition to be a Manager. What Chairman will touch him after that rant?!!

To be fair everyone knows what a shower they are, and what a load of old bull Wally has been pedalling for yonks.

Someone would take a chance on him down there, just look at some of the poor managers that keep getting jobs at that level over the years.

He'd probably have a better chance of a league 2 club over league 1, considering that he's won promotion from that level previously though.

FAKE FANTA!!! Surely it doesn't get any more pathetic?

Also, how does this Sag know what ass tastes like?

Exactly what I thought when I read it - such a Rovers thing. I know it's cliche but you honestly couldn't make up some of the ridiculous stories that come from that club.

Easy to see why their thread is so popular, especially with days like today. They make it too easy.

Isn't Fanta 'Nazi Cola'?

Sure I read a story once that alluded to Fanta being a drink that was created under sanctions.

Correct it is short for Fantastiche. Coca Cola wanted to expand in the 1930s but the Nazi regime would not allow the Cocal Cola brand so they created Fanta.

Utter ******* ! We were all well and truly taken in by these ***** , I’m just so angry and saddened that I along with many other long suffering gasheads thought that we were going to finally get the club we all deserved ! Like usual we’ve been shafted. It’s time to face the facts that we will always be a ******* joke to the rest of the football league, the only decent thing we have is us fans, we deserve so much better.

Never use drugs kids, this is what happens.

They don't see it do they, it is incredible. Sunderland deserve better because they get 30,000 + in the third tier. Pompey deserve better, because they were getting nearly 20,000 in the fourth tier. Rovers haven't averaged over 10,000 in a season for nearly 70 years. They are a third tier team, playing in the third tier. Their support has always reflected that fact.

Secondly, who was booing the Rovers team? Must have been City fans who sneaked in to see Herbie Kane as we all know the self appointed greatest fans in the universe would never turn on their own team.

I don’t think Dopey should take it so personal. NO manager will get a training ground etc, it’s just not happening. Everyone knows that, expect their deluded fans who are still hanging onto their pipe dreams as that’s preferable than facing reality.

Dopey is asking for the sack. Let’s see how Wally feels about him going so public about their situation.  Dopey’s stock is so low that no other club will want him unless he wants to go back to Non League or at best League Two where he will be employed to get a club promoted. The Gas cannot afford to sack him, the relationship between the parties has broken down. There are no winners here ( yes I am enjoying this).

Like LJ he has had his best players sold, but unlike LJ hasn’t been backed at all regarding replacements. LJ is expected to achieve more with less, Dopey is expected to do the same with nothing!

Is that true though, the mid table budget bit not the underperforming? I would be very surprised if they are paying League One average wages for the squad they have assembled, all freebies and misfits.

Their delusion is incredible. In a week when the Bristol Post publish a table showing that in terms of attendances as a % of local population Rovers come rock bottom of L1, below Accrington, Shrewsbury, Burton etc (all clubs who’s support they criticise) they still believe that their support deserves better than what they have.

They have the club they deserve, when the Al Qadis arrived hardly any of them said “hang on a minute, let’s wait and see what happens...”, the majority couldn’t wait to tell everyone how soon they were going to pass US and how much more wealthy they were than US.

How did that turn out? ?

I'm gonna give this thread some 'sensible' perspective for a change.

Been out for a pre Xmas ruby tonight with long time friends, some of which are gas. Inevitably, living on the dark side, we ended up in Dando's, in Oldland.

I got chatting to a few proper gas, 40 year men, who have my respect and to see their pain, actually hurt. Maybe I'm getting old. The consensus is that Clarke is an honest, straight talking bloke that's been let down massively by owners that promised all sorts and delivered naff all. Essentially, they feel sacking Clarke would be a huge mistake but realise the Al Q's are now in a position to essentially close them down by calling in their debt.

While I, obviously laughed, I felt their pain as their club could genuinely be killed off!

Shame eh! ;)

Yes, I don’t recall much cynicism along the lines of “Hang about, for every Ambramovich there’s been ten Venkys and Owen Oystens” - it was universal gloating and baseless predictions of world domination in next to no time.

Scum fans are getting the owners they deserve and it’s an absolute joy to behold.

If you are 1 of the 5 who has been told that you are not good enough and going in Jan but still being picked in the mean time I would imagine that your motivation to succeed won't really be that high.

That's on the manager who should be motivating the squad not telling the world how bad they are?

I bet clubs are queuing already to take them off their hands.

It's been clear for a couple of years looking at "improvements" to the mem that there isn't any money and the club was brought as an ego trip where the investment just isn't there.

When wael came in it was being reported that he was a billionaire, the club were richer than city etc. Nothing was said to dispel that by the club so seeing tents errected and clearly no investment forthcoming  is a real eye opener.

The other thing that bugs me is rovers fans keep patting themselves on the back saying that they are the best fans in the world and the best thing at club?

Reality bites...

No club in this country has ever actually gone AFAIK except by merger (Bristol Southend and Bedminster).  Aldershot and Bradford Park Avenue are still plugging away.

If they lose their ground then it's back to Twerton or the new Bath Rugby ground due 2021.

As long as it has even a few hundred supporters who are going to pay to watch a club then that club will continue in some form.

Didn't Hereford properly disappear? Yes there's now a Hereford 2.0 but I thought they genuinely 'went'.

As did Aldershot in that technical sense but there is still a club called Hereford playing which Hereford fans continue to support.  That the limited company that previously owned Hereford went bust didn't mean that there was no Hereford to support.

BRFC 1883 can be liquidated, the AQs can realise their charge on the Memorial Ground and sell it.

The next day the supporters incorporate a new BRFC 2018, find a ground to rent, put together a scratch team and apply to play in the Conference the next season.  With an average gate of 6k they'll be welcomed with open arms.

The club continues.

I have just trawled through Dopey’s Evening Post interview. They do him no favours by quoting him verbatim, but in fairness it’s such a rambling incoherent tirade about, and against, everyone I don’t suppose they had any alternative. Dispite  a couple of claims to be offering clarity, to me at least, he delivers the opposite and comes across as a raving self-serving idiot, incapable of holding a single thought, or stringing a couple of simple sentences together. Never mind the results, or the shameless shifting of blame onto everyone else, the bloke is an embarrassment to (even) that club and should be relieved of his duties forthwith if only for the sake of his own metal health.

Can’t even figure out how you could legally do such a thing

I can see that you can put it in but it's pretty meaningless.

If they want to continue owning the club then just cut the grass at the Colony and say "There is the new ground and we are playing at Swindon whilst the facilities are built".

If they don't then just sell the club for what they can get and immediately take possession of the ground to satisfy their outstanding charge on it; and then sell it.

These are investors who four years ago would not have been able to find Bristol on a map.  They want to maximise how much money they get back when they leave.

You can tell it's bollox just by taking a step back,. Why would you take a charge over something that can't be traded, and thus is worthless? The charge would be over the club not the asset. How could they have sold the club to Al Q with the pay day loan charge over the mem extant basically overriding that charge? They couldn't.

In your dreams. Best they might hope for would be the Western League (somewhere pyramid 9-10,) though Hellenic would be more appropriate given their similarity to the Greek economy and the fact they've both lost their marbles......

That presenter, Alex Belfield, is a total dick.  He said to both Daryl and a fan "Get it into your thick head" as well as insulting the whole Mansfield team and its fanbase.

I don't know if anybody has listened to "Down the Line" but Alex Belfield sounds like an extreme version of Gary Bellamy who is a comic creation.

This is from his wiki; he has form for being a prat:

Over the years Belfield has courted controversy. In 2004 at Scarlet FM he regularly made the local newspapers after various stunts and controversial statements, with one listener describing his style as "moronic".[23] At Mansfield 103.2, he established a series of 'fake sackings' (one of which would involve Mansfield 103.2's managing director Tony Delahunty), in which he would pretend to be fired on the air and then magically reappear the following day.[24]In 2005 whilst hosting the late night radio show for Capital Gold Belfield referred to a mother of triplets as a "slapper". Belfield's comments were described as "ill-judged".[25] In 2010 whilst hosting BBC Radio Leeds mid-morning show Belfield was suspended for 1 day after making "lewd" comments about BBC Look North weather presenter Keeley Donovan.[26]

Not at all, in fact he should be given a nice new contract extension if anything, in my opinion he's doing a fantastic job.

Football really is a different world. Where else could you fail, slag the owners off in public and still get years worth of pay on being sacked?

Not having a go at Dopey in particular but what other jobs offer that?

It's a stupid, disproportionate, unrealistic game largely unrelated to life outside the "bubble" (and yet some people are surprised and upset at the reaction of some supporters to it, ie, that they "moan" a lot, and expect a lot/too much, and are not proportionate and realistic etc). Funny old game/world!

“So that’s what it is, that’s where we are, that’s clarity. Whether that upsets a few, it probably will do, but I always think honesty, integrity, letting people know the score is the best way of dealing with it.”

“Just think clarity needs to come out. It’s not hard, is it? It’s not hard to say for me. I might get my knuckles wrapped”

“They tell me things, they’re still working on this and this, but I don’t see anything progressing. I say this to them as well.”

“I don’t think anyone would blame me for walking out the door, would they? ...
I’m emotional sometimes after the game, like I was after the Gillingham game, but, for me, I want to get clarity out there. That’s where we stand as a football club, let’s try and ****ing move it forward.”

Wonder if Clarke’s not careful whether they will sack him for speaking out (Needs to be careful he isn’t breaching any clauses in his contract) and try and bin him off without compensation

They are in danger of being relegated into L1 in a worse state than when they were relegated there last time

I have a very small level of sympathy for him. He has clearly been shafted by the owners. He was made promises when they chucked him a new contract but maybe he was as deluded as the fans to believe it.

Feels like last resort for him to try and get all the fans on side by diverting some of the blame to the owners, if they don't sack him or at very least come out and clear up after this it just proves that they either don't have the money to sack him or they simply don't care about the club enough/at all.

If this was happening at City I'd want Clarke out anyway. The guy looks broken. How can you possibly trust him to motivate anyone, especially the crap bunch of players he has at his disposal.

Agreed.  He may be a good manager in normal conditions but he is now pretty much in open warfare with the owners; that's relegation sewn in if not a double relegation.

Decisions, decisions...

They shouldn't have to into admin this year; the loan facility secured on the ground was extended by £5m at the last set of accounts so if they're genuinely going to let Rovers draw on that then they are perfectly good financially for at least the next two seasons as they're losing a shade under £2m a year, maybe closer to £1.5m this year with player sales.

Bg "if" though.

Not too clever calling a fan base morons mind, especially Mansfield.
