Radio Bristol interview with the Cock post Burton:

”Graham, with the transfer window closing on Tuesday, should Rovers supporters expect any incomings?”

(Long pause). “I know da players oi wanna bring in.”

”Do you expect to be able to bring those players in?”

I wouldn’t have tought so, no.”

It doesn’t sound as though all is well between the Cock and his Board. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

it's what they don't do

Of course he isn’t going to get the players he wants, they couldn’t even afford a part timer from the Irish League. How much lower can their sights be set?

wasn’t one of their pre season signings someone Eastleigh didn’t want?  That’s how low their sights are

Homophobic chants thing, could someone define and specify?

By which I mean, not so long ago I'm sure that 'Does your boyfriend know you're here' plus 'We can see you holding hands' would regularly get a few rounds v Brighton.

Guessing it was more offensive/serious than the above to make the news? Or have times changed again in even the last few years.

It has already been classified that it was more serious than that

Well the post have been sucking up to them again by describing it as 'amazing travelling support'

I wonder what ours was when we easily sold out Burton away twice? Maybe the post just expect us to take night on 3 times as many as the pikeys? We would undoubtedly have taken more, on both occasions, if they were available.

The chants you have quoted are considered offensive and homophobic - there is no differential, a chant either is or isn't in contravention of the law.  It made the news because there was a thread about it on a Rovers' forum, and that's where the "journalists" get their news these days.

It shouldn't be happening.

Well fair enough, but where do we draw the line for football chants- not specifically referring to homophobia but in general?

Are you telling me no other fanbase chants the 2 I stated anymore? Because I find that hard to believe- must've been more to it?

Well in that case, any chants of that nature. If in doubt, don't sing!

Yet I am fairly convinced that chant is routine at Brighton games or has been recently- if it has now changed to all or nothing then we all know where we are.

It wasn’t that chant though was it?

This is no particular opinion on the homophobic chanting at the Mem, but I firmly feel we are but a few years away from almost everything being deemed offensive and therefore illegal.

What was mildly annoying in 2000 will be a jail sentence for someone in 2030. There is no end to it.

Chanting someone has a "slaphead" will be construed as offensive. Pointing out someone is a speccy-tw** will earn you a conviction for hate crime - a new law from 2028 which doesn't allow you to make any comment about someone's appearance.

You might think I'm talking crap, but you'd have said the same about current laws 15 years ago and the relentless influence of social media will see the shift continue.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks the world today is a lot nearer George Orwell's 1984 than I would like.

I fully support the general idea that hate crime needs to be dealt with. How, exactly, is another conversation. But soon it will be a crime to be angry at someone. I can see the scenario - someone spills their pint over you. You impulsively call them an [expletive] idiot. You're in front of a magistrate.

I say "how exactly" because I loathe the fact that we've decided to categorise some things as more important as others. Offend someone with reference to their race and your career, family life and everything else could be finished. Spout foul mouthed abuse at a disabled person with reference to their disability (I believe that to be even worse) and old bill won't be interested. That is disgusting in my view.

Pretty much agree with this.

I do wonder whether there should be something to put into law whereby you cannot be offended on someone elses behalf. Basically, it should be up to the person on the receiving end of the abuse that should report it.

I'm pretty sure this would reduce the number of complaints by a lot, and actually leave it up to the genuine victims to decide whether they're offended or not.

Not a bad idea. A bit like most physical acts of violence. The victim has to press charges?

That’s very harsh on Bury - they got promoted last season and their fans have gone through hell, so you basically describe them as ‘ejected shite’ - savage ...

Gone for a Burton, as the saying goes.  Poor Saggies, no money, no fans, the worst ground in the football league (and even thats in hock), an Irish manager, a skint board and an owner who supports somebody else.  It couldn't get much worse, could it? Well it might ?

You think the nationality of their manager is part of the ‘couldn’t get worse’ scenario .... blimey .... we once had a manager who’d played for the Republic of Ireland and we’ve also had one from the North of Ireland, who also represented his country as a player and manager and another who played for Northern Ireland ...

Unless they've changed the rules recently weddings might only be conducted in venues that were permanent structures with solid roofs that were publicly accessible - which if still true rules out most of the House of Tents.....

Weddings is a really good idea as they could wheel the temporary stands around onto the pitch as they could double up as marquees especially with those lovely blue and white canvas roofs which look like bunting if you close your eyes.

It would all look lovely in front of that cricket Pavillion.

Its no surprise they're advertising about conferences, is it. They know all about that as they've recently been in one.

Good to see Gas Legend...the dopester...Darrell ‘appy dayz’ Clarke, doing so well at Walsall.

Better manager than LJ apparently according to the Blue Few and a couple of belters on here.

All went wrong for him when he accidentally sold Matty Taylor for £9.7 million below his valuation. Easily done I suppose.

I've never said he's better than LJ and certainly didn't want him here but I did think he was a decent manager; maybe Walsall just has a rubbish squad.

The BP are almost as bad as the Fewers with their views on the Sags support, not a week goes by without them saying how great they are

Amazing travelling support

It was hard to know which side were the away team at the Pirelli Stadium as the travelling Gasheads dominated in the stands as their side did on the pitch.

The blue and white quarter clad visitors may have been outnumbered, although only just with only 2831 in the ground, but they were loud and fully supportive for the full 90 minutes and then some, staying to clap off the Pirates players after the final whistle despite them making the long trip back to Bristol with no points to show for their efforts.

Did they go via Sunderland, then?

How can nearly 4 times the amount of home fans, to away fans be only just?

if the 650 ish dressed as jesters is an accurate number, then they were almost outnumbered 3 1/2 to 1

EDIT: I see Ashton Park pipped me to it!

Everything about this article screams non-league.  Getting all excited about losing in front of less than 3k fans in some backwater.  The gas would be much better off back in the Vanarama where they feel like some sort of big fish.

The transfer window has finally closed for the lower league clubs. Was the Cock allowed to make any signngs? I think that we all know the answer to that although one of the bigger teams in League One, Wycombe Wanderers managed to sign Rolando Aarons.

I guess if you've got it, flaunt it; if you haven't, you're Bristol Rovers.
