think they also thought they were coming for us early in the season when we beat them 2 1 at Ashton gate ,vaguely remember someone phoning in on radio Bristol saying that they should of won and they were loads better than us blah blah blah were coming for you tick tock and all that sh7t .

My brother in law got all shirty on Facebook after that match, his status about how unlucky the Gas were ended with the line “see you next season SHITHEADS”.

Funnily enough, despite living nearby, didn’t see him at all for about 5 months after 3/5/2014.

The famous 'Oh Yes' thread. I remember it fondly.

Didn't it .....sort of, backfire?

You`d think, given all the times it`s happened to them, they would be aware of the old proverb `pride (or in s*g speak, unlucky da shit) comes before a fall` but evidently not!

They are a very strange bunch, they’d prefer City to lose rather than their own mob to win, it’s quite interesting and strange - I remember Holloway being interviewed on TV when he was the sags’ manager, they’d just got dicked at home and he said something along the lines of “I’m not bothered cos City lost today...” - unbelievable, and then the Darrell Clarke “happy days” comment when he learned during an interview that we’d lost - they revel in our defeats more than they celebrate their victories - it’s a strange and very weird stance to take and believe in ... it won’t get them anywhere, but they surely must have realised that by now ...

A sag on a site i was working on said to me not so long ago that he would genuinely have another season out of the football league in the conference if it meant we were down there with them. Unbelievable.

They really do have this mindset - it`s bizarre. They would be happy to fail provided we failed in a bigger way. Most of them would die happy if they were one point ahead of us, even if it was in Conference South at the time.

I often use this analogy - if a City fan came across a s*g drowning in the canal and offered his hand to help the s*g would rather pull him in with him than let him help him out.

If a city fan came across a sag in a canal he would realise that the sag was just having his Monthly wash

So they are posting the grainy videos and saying “Happy 2nd May” like they always do annually. It’s all they have left...bless ‘em.

A couple of bubble bursting responses are “Yeah, Happy 2nd May....2001”

Amazed that someone as persnickety as yourself would be so wrong BS4.

Bristol Rovers joined the football league in 1920.

They rejoined the football league in 2015.

Yes, so I was right, they have only been a league club for the last four and a half years ... I wasn’t talking about their whole history - at this point in time they have been a league club for four and a half years - it’s the same as when people say we’ve been in the championship for four and a half seasons now ...

Big round of applause for them....and then there’s us, 120 uninterrupted years as a League club.
In Football League terms Rovers are just a bunch of ‘Johnny come lately’ chancers, punching way above their own weight.

Selective memory again; they are celebrating 2nd May thirty years ago https://gaschat.co.uk/thread/16224/incredibly-30-years-ago-today

No mention though of a more recent 2nd May.

Ahem...3rd May mate, St Daniels Day is tomorrow.

We do have this 2nd May though

Their current spell as a league club started just four and a half years ago.

Thus making them 4 and a half years old as a football league club.  Too long in my view.

I wasnt suggesting that it was a good achievement for them.

I'd just rather the piss taking was accurate.

The piss taking IS accurate - they’ve been a league club for four and a half years ... since 2015 - just like they say Bristol City FC has only existed since 1982

If I remember correctly Tomarse has said click hosts both but there is a large gap between the servers. may be social distancing.

No just happy to see who is rock bottom

Funny coincidence, both The Sags and Oxford eventually dropped out of the league. We have not played the Sags in a league Match since, how have Swindle done against Oxford in the league since the 2nd May 2001?

Awful would be the answer that's why we want promotion this season to start levelling things out!

Apologies I meant 2014 and not all of us celebrated!

I was there, yes you did!

I'm surprised your mob didn't present a bloody trophy.

Luckily the old bill kept our lot penned in behind your main stand as some were not at all happy!

I'm all for west country sides doing well apart from the obvious but I, for one, was behind PNE in the PO final, purely because of the Swindon reaction to that result.

As for Toffolo, cheating bastard!

What was it Flinty said? 'That was the day we knew we would be Champions'?

I think you misunderstood me as I certainly wasn't one over celebrating and have said previously some of the actions of the players was bang out of order and thankfully they have moved on

It wasn't a jibe at you personally ST, more your support in general. No offence meant.

No offence taken as myself and many other decent  STFC supporters said the same afterwards but as we know all clubs have their idiots which often reflects on all supporters

Literally the first thing I saw entering the ground after the lovely walk down in the escort.

Same as us mate. We were in that escort.

Brilliant day apart from the game though, good laugh in the pub before and to that bloke who was smashed at midday dancing on tables, bravo to him.

Remember local residents waving City shirts out their windows to us in the escort.

Danny starks from tarnock I think. One of the locals in my pub in rooksbridge, next village. He was bolloxed on the Fri night, leaving us well after 2am,and on the cider train from Highbridge at 8.30. Still gets as pissed now.

Asschat..........  :rofl2br::facepalm:

Great year in the conference, good away days at real football clubs not plastic franchise setups like Bristol Sport. Great day out winning at Wembley. Followed by promotion to L1 so really not upset by that at all. Possibly best thing that could have happened in long run. The gap is one good season for us or one poor season for them, both of which could easily happen ......

If he really thinks that "The Gap" is symbolic of purely league position, he's even more deluded that he needs to be to support that shower of shite..!

The league Gap (20 years) shows up their inadequate recent existence, but the vast galactic chasm between the 2 clubs in set up, infrastructure & potential is something that would unlikely be caught up in a decade, let alone a season.

Knobhead!

Talking of "The Gap"

I was just thinking if any 2 (league) team town or City has such a gulf between its 2 respective clubs.

Nottingham..? I don't think so. (yes I know County are currently non league) Meadow Lane is a cracking ground, giving county the realistic potential of championship football, should they manage it again. County have also seen top flight football during the current generation.

Stoke..? Big league gap and Vale have a half rebuilt, crumbling mess of a ground. It still makes the Mem look crap though.! And with Stoke City seemingly imploding, after a decade of success, their gap appears to be shrinking.

What other nominations are there, that could make Rovers feel a little bit better about their pitiful existence..?

Yep exactly this. One of my 'saner' Rovers-supporting mates spoke to me after they played Coventry, he couldn't believe just how good Liam Walsh was. He said if he can't get into the City team then that shows just how big the gulf is these days.
