Having been born in and lived the first 35 years of my life in St George, I completely agree. BS5 was red - the blue area was from the Kingswood end of the Kingsway through to Warmley and Cadbury Heath.

First 23 for me, fair few of my vintage (born ‘63) were reds.

Funny you should say that. As someone from BS15 since the mid 1970s I always thought the opposite, that the Rovers support was more towards the Bristol end of Kingswood. I grew up in the Warmley area and you had Rovers areas around on the old estates (Soundwell, Banjo Island, Mangotsfield etc) but since the late 70s early 80s many new houses went gone up in Kingswood, Warmley, Longwell Green, Emersons Green, Bridgeyate and so on and people parachuted in from all over the place and brought their allegiances with them. My family moved into one of those brand new estates in the 70s and it was split red and blue right down the middle. I found much the same at school, kids football, workplaces and pubs in the area.

I still live in BS15 and my road has about 25 houses. Four known Rovers households of which one lot attend matches, and seven City households of which four regularly got to games. That's the thing that's always stood out for me, those claiming to be City actually went to some of the games, while many of the Rovers lot hardly ever or indeed never went to watch them.

Retired or semi retired , aka do it for free or can we pay as little as possible

what an embarrassing post for a league 1 club

Some Rovers players will be getting thousands of pounds a week. They should be paying the maintenance and other non-playing staff a decent wage, not scrimping over a few quid to give even more to Lewis Gibson.

Be good if, with the hand of true friendship, some retired or semi-retired shithead tradesmen or women could offer assistance and really f’ck up their plumbing and electrics.

Unlucky da shit…….is backed up in all the bogs as they’re blocked and is now spilling into the home changing rooms.

Well to be fair, there isn't much else left for anybody to **** up is there?

Alternatively just leave everything as it currently is, and they'll manage to do it without anybodies help..

I am not an electrician myself but I am pretty sure they need to work to the latest issue of the electrical regulations. Employing a retired electrician whose knowledge is out of date to actually do that trade might not end well.

'Keeping your hand in...' is not something you want to be doing when public safety is at risk.

From the web:-

If you don't have the 18th Edition, or don't know what the regulations include, your installations may not meet the current standard, which could mean that your installations are unsafe or inefficient.

1250 days and counting since the nice man promised them a home to be prowed (sic) of. How could they ever doubt him though?

Pretty sure that would be deemed ‘negligence’ by their insurer.

Anyhows, crack on The Rovers. Tinpot you are not… be asking for care home residents to fix their gas supplies next.

Still could happen, but if nothing is agreed this year then it probably won't. As ever the problem with Rovers is commitment to spending their own money to get something done. Sale of their main asset (the Mem) alone won't be enough to finance a land deal and new stadium.

They've been quite unlucky too with this recession hitting and construction costs dramatically increasing. Not many land deals are being done, period. So I can understand their reluctance.

Never mind!

Is this a legit page of theirs?

How naff does that look? No offence to the older folk?

Is that them basically saying they're not willing to pay for full time handymen/electricians, or even to engage proper companies if they are needed?

All of this goes against somewhat the image of the Chairman as a billionaire owner....

How can they afford to build a new stadium, if there're not willing to pay for the maintenance of a the current one?

Not so much reluctance as not having the money then.

As @Open End Numb Legs rightly pointed out, any alternations or additions to any Electrical work will need to be signed off and met to the current regs (18th Edition).

How they’ve worded that article looks naff as you like.

I’m fully qualified, but I wouldn’t trust that shambles to pay up when asked.

Absolutely. I’m a self-employed electrician and there is no such thing as ‘keeping your hand in’ within the electrical game nowadays. Its 2023 not the 1980’s.

The never ending conveyor belt of ‘gifts’ continues to rumble on.

This week their supposedly professional club owned by the 6th richest man in football is posting on Facebook asking if there’s any old sparkies out there to have a go at electrical or plumbing work that should be done by fully qualified professionals.

If I was a Slaghead I might think twice about using the hand dryers in the bogs next home match….presuming I attended the game, most don’t bother.

They wonder why this thread exists? ?

In fairness, and I detest the Gas more than most, but they do state electricians or plumbers, not just retired handymen. Tinpot in the extreme, but there is a difference.

retired or semi retired electrician or plumber who is looking to keep their hand in”

It depends what the club want them to do doesn’t it? Change lightbulbs that anyone can do…no problem. Post changed for clarity anyway ?

Either way it’s the most tinpot thing they’ve done this week. Can’t wait for next weeks gift. ?

The most surprising thing in that advert is that it mentions "pay". I am surprised they aren't looking for people to do the work just out of love for the club, or possibly an option to have discounted tickets.

Fantastic news - absolutely made up for you.  I'm not sure if it's sunk in yet for me, to be honest - although it was all done and dusted in less than a year, it seems to be forever since I was last "normal".  Bring on the fun in 2023.  Take care.
