Trying to get this thread back on topic……we got pretty wet standing in the away ‘patch’ at the Memorial that night we sent the Gas down. Mind you, we could have drowned that night and still enjoyed it.

I was in the home end that night. Nearly gave the game away when Bell hit the post.

Was tricky before, I guy started talking to me and I said “I’m here at Uni, so wanted to see a Bristol Derby, I’m a Plymouth fan really” which I thought would cover things nicely until he says “oh Plymouths my 2nd team, what do you think of….”

The only game in recent times I can remember with really bad fog was (I think) away at Torquay, we won 3-0 but had no idea what was going on down the far end of the pitch as you couldn't see anything.

Didn't get abandoned though.

4-0 we won that day, an early Lita hat trick and a Heffernan goal in the 2nd half.

Can remember only knowing City had scored when they players were heading back up to half way line celebrating.

Shame Torquay have struggled for years now, quality day out.

It's a bit of a shithole these days.

In more modern times, wasn't there a game at AG vs Wolves, where the rain was literally coming in sideways?

My nephew and his mate were sitting watching in that little uncovered stand that used to exist at the end of the Atyeo.

They looked liked drowned rats at full-time.

I was able to get to that infamous end of season game at Twerton only because I used a work colleague's Rovers season ticket. (I hadn't been able to go to the original game that was postponed, so didn't have a ticket for the rearranged game - he was abroad on holiday having expected the season to finish the Saturday before).

His seat was bang in the middle of their main stand. So, having successfully negotiated all the police ticket checks as a 40 year old using a 'senior' season ticket, I planned my approach of keeping my mouth shut and my real affiliation quiet. But when I got there I was greeted with all around me saying "Ah, you're the City fan with Ron's ticket...he told us you'd be here...."!!

I don't leave games early - but that was the exception! 20 minutes or so!

Deafy from Henbury, knew him pretty well used the Henbury Social club

Worked with him during one of my Summer holidays at Canford Park. Think they had three full-time gardeners there at the time.

He was an absolute gem of a guy.

Talking of Plymouth I was in a pub there years ago told the locals I was down here fishing when someone asked me a load of questions about where I was going

Completely and utterly tinpot! Two days to take direct action, by visiting the club shop (wherever that is, not that I GAF) with just one day’s notice. Any STH living outside of Bristol must be well pissed off.

Looking more closely at the proposed new structures, if you end up in a seat located on the leftmost side of the smaller stand, will you actually be able to see the goal at your end of the pitch - especially when (probably ’if’) the larger stand is full? Maybe a big selling point!

I wonder if they'll let you sit in the stand before you finalise the seat you want? ?

Looking even more closely at the new structure it appears as though Fred Dibnah must have been contracted to move the floodlight pylon.

So its 35 quid more for a season ticket to sit in their new stand (which hasn't even been built) than it is to sit in the South Stand for us. How on earth do they justify that?

Will ideally be named the "Virtual" Stand.

It's simply a simulation which, even if completed, will be virtually empty every home game.

I was in the home end too and kept myself under control until flapper saved that penalty.

I was over the barrier quicker than an Olympic sprinter!!

How can they sell tickets for a stand they're not currently allowed to bolt together?

They can build it without planning permission which can retrospectively be gained after the build.

Whether they would be allowed to use it is another matter maybe ?

On faith.

And presumably some robust but fair refund policies.

Their standard T&C's say they offer no refund for any element of any season ticket. There might be some extra terms around the new "stand" but I can't see those without signing up, and I'm damned if I'm going on their mailing list.

But yeh, it's a risk...or maybe it's not when you only sell three tickets?

Think the latest sentence is the crucial one. I can’t see how they’d get a safety certificate for a stand that doesn’t have planning consent.

£419 for a season ticket in their new stand, with various line of sight issues in League 1. Or £385 for a season ticket in a state of the art stand (with no pillars) in the Championship.

Tough choice :laugh::laugh:

They've got a mortgage to pay don't you know. It's basically a buy to let job.

Stop Notice or Injunction anyone?

If the height of the new stand is higher than the tent it replaces or capacity is increased by virtue of these works it might get a little interesting.

Obviously, they are as confident in getting all the necessary consents before the start of next Season as they were about ‘coming to get us’ this Season. Glad they seem to be still employing the legal bods who were so successful with the Sainsbury’s case.

The planning application hasn’t even been  registered yet ?.

As we’re aware, Bristol City Council isn’t widely renowned for their swift decision-making... Typically, applications of this nature require a period of 8-13+ weeks to navigate through the system, which means they could be waiting right up to the beginning of the new season (presuming the application is registered in the next week or so). There is also a possibility that the application might be subject to review by a planning committee, especially if concerns are raised by residents in Horfield.

It’s so tinpot and unprofessional from Rovers to be leaving the planning process until the last minute, especially when they’re selling season tickets for a stand that hasn’t got planning permission. Surely they could’ve done it months ago ??‍♂️

This probably isn’t going to end well… ?

But it wouldn't be the first time someone builds something assuming they will get approval at a later date only to be advised it had to be removed

Can't remember, but I had a season ticket in row J, and there was 1 row between that one and the railings.

Assuming that that's the half way point, then around 22 rows.

It's a lot more rows on top of the mystical row m put it that way!!

They probably have the old stand stored away in someone's garage in the likelihood that get planning refused  and have to put the tent back up.

As previously mentioned, I suspect they intend simply to plough ahead and build (*assemble*) the stand, before even submitting a planning application.

By the time the new structure (almost twice the height of the existing tent) has taken shape, the local residents will finally have woken up to the impact of the new build. By that time though, it will be too late for them.

Any resistance to the progress of the application will draw the wrath of Wael, Barton and the Few, and one suspects sag Mayor Marvin Rees will see it through for them without too much bother. Basically, they'll bully their way through, bypassing the due process.

There's a lot - a hell of a lot - to criticise Barton for but I actually thought that interview was unusually self-aware and open for a manager. Essentially "if I'm not good enough to get a team promoted out of League One and established in the Championship within three seasons, I need to accept I'm probably never going to manage at the level I want to". Bristol Rovers is a strange horse to strap yourself to in that scenario but it's quite unusual for a manager to say that they're getting the support they need to succeed and it is on themselves if they fail to take it. Certainly haven't had that with some of our previous managers and you can compare and contrast with Nathan Jones' "everyone's fault but mine" interview earlier in the week.

I must agree, although I think this is highly rare, as Barton usually spouts..

”There’s no excuses today.. the ref was their 12th man”

”There’s no excuses today.. they kicked us off the pitch”

”There’s no excuses today.. etcétéra”

Agreed. It'll be interesting to see if he sticks to the line of "I had the support and backing if I needed" if he does not succeed.

This current weather related tangent has reminded me that you don’t seem to get matches abandoned because of fog any more. I can remember a City match abandoned at half time because of fog, but that was in the days when you could have a good night out for a shilling and still come home with change. Where has it gone.

There temporary stand used to be taken down each summer and then used at the Wimbledon tennis tournament, I wonder if that is where it has gone
