That was the same season when we won 2-0 at AG, wasn't it? A Beadle double as I recall. The second being pretty special - I was right behind it.

That 4-2 was something of a collector's item, wasn't it? One of the reasons your lot repeatedly folded at Trumpton was because they couldn't handle the atmosphere and the novelty of playing in an environment where the fans get behind their team.

Any chances of your lot getting behind the team for 90 minutes is a distant memory these days.

After the circus running your club got rid of one of the ends.

"Rovers, where we get behind you in the first half, and hope that the allotments can give you the support you need in the second"

Do you have a video of Rickie Lambert ramming a volley down Basso's throat in the JPT area final? I'm struggling to find it...

Geography - Iran isn't in the Middle East

Human geography - Middle Eastern women all like having to wear hijabs

Law - A drunken fracas with nightclub bouncers is worse than assaulting two women, or beating up your wife and beating up a random taxi driver because you're annoyed with the wait at McDonalds

Business - UK-registered Bristol Sport is a tax-avoiding corporate entity, whereas Jersey-registered Dwane Sports isn't.

Moral philosophy - An aside in a press interview made by a former manager is embarrassing, piping in clapping noise isn't

Engineering - Having a modern stadium = soulless; having a three-sided ramshackle dump = character

History - Last time BRFC beat BCFC at Ashton Gate - 27 years ago; Last season BRFC had larger crowds than BCFC circa 65 years ago; Last time BRFC were in a division above BCFC - 49 years ago; last time BRFC were in a league position in the same league above BCFC - 23 years ago.

He's a mine of information.

Good work RR.

To be fair, Lambert is a pretty perfect example of somebody connected with Bristol Rovers...

I'm actually touched - you all appear almost as interested in my own club as your own.

It is very entertaining, and this is in large part because we haven't morphed into a soulless corporate entity, unlike a certain club I could touch with a very short stick.

Says the one on our Forum...

This whole conversation with this hot air person reminds me of arguing with my friend Steven at school, who was an unfortunately a Sag. However much you pointed out the obvious about City vs them, it never really sank in to his small gas filled brain.

Lost touch with him years ago. Wonder why ?

Nope, not like your manager to do anything "frankly embarrassing"....

Wow, I don't think I've seen that before.

Love the surfers carrying on in the background, just doin' their own thing.

I thought everyone associated with young players had to be vetted? How does that work with a criminal record for violence?

Never gets tiresome watching that. Even if Mansfield were wearing their own kit, it would be hilarious. However, getting relegated with Mansfield wearing a G@a kit was and is priceless!!

I always loved the video filmed from the Rovers end. They were crying on the video, and so was I. Good times.

Certainly makes you wonder, doesn't it?  It isn't just the prison term: there's a long history stretching back to the "cigar in the eye" incident.

Maybe, like Johnson Sr did here, Joey will recruit a family member who played a bit of football in his youth, and will fit in with the prevailing ethos at the Mem and has recently become available?

One of my sons plays youth rugby and as I understand it us parents aren't even allowed to help out with any drills during coaching sessions. You either get yourself passed as a coach or you just watch from the side and talk about the price of fish with the other parents.

I don't understand how I, with nothing but a parking ticket in about 1989, can't tie another child's boot laces in front of 50 people but a football coach is allowed to carry on with a history of violence. Is it just a player age thing? Or are we back to 'well he served his punishment and that is that'?

Didn’t have a great record there but it certainly wasn’t because of the 47 mute swans in the “Popular Side” (an oxymoron if ever there was one!)

However, once you were ensconced in the Pisspoorial we quickly took you apart three times there inside a calendar year. :)

'Didn't have a great record' is something of an understatement. You were taught a footballing lesson on more than one occasion.

But like I say, once you dragged your rotting carcasses back to the city we quickly rectified that poor record.

And re: Mr. Beadle, he came back to haunt you big style in a later derby - to date the last league one were you good enough to play us. He was sensational that night and changed the game after Gash thug Robbie Pathetic crocked Lee Peacock. I worked with a Slaggie in Yorks at the time and it ruined his Xmas, not helped by me singing “Watch out, Beadle’s about” every time I bumped into him in the corridor.

Think back a bit further to May 2, 1990, when BRFC beat you 3-0 to clinch the league title.

Enjoy:

Even better than the 4-0 hammering subsequently handed out.

So what was it? A footballing lesson or intimidating atmosphere? You flit from pillar to post yet again in a vain attempt to retain any credibility here.

Just face it - I reckon every single poster who has responded to your repeated jibes, lies, insults and inaccuracies here thinks you are a dick. I certainly do.

To start with you probably provided some entertainment value. Now it's just tiresome, yet you still continue to pursue it.

It's a Friday night, start of the weekend and the world is your oyster. Why not do something different - give up posting here and leave your sister alone. You are now boring.

Hold on tight to that straw!

We went up too. And Don’t forget the second part where we hammered the final nail in the scum, overdrawn and quartered peasants’ relegation coffin in Apr ‘93. You’ve not had a whiff of the second tier since, aside from a hilarious playoff capitulation to Northampton in ‘97. Edit - 98, sorry.

How many times have you won that trophy?

And, for a bonus point, how often have we won that trophy while they were not eligible to compete for it, and thus had to settle for FA Trophy first round runners up.

Sweetheart, you've heard it said that the opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference?

You and your fellow contributors are quite clearly not indifferent to us. Your protestations notwithstanding, you are still deeply interested and even invested in us and our fate and fortune.

Now, it is Friday evening. Let's leave it here for the weekend.

Not all, we’ve got some decent Gasheads on here.

This one is treading water until we lose and they win, at that point he/she will start bragging and will get an angry knee jerk reaction…which is exactly what they want.

For an obvious troll with nothing to offer I think he/she has had a good innings.

Poor troll just doesn't get it.

I like a good analogy but it is a struggle to nail our friendly visitor with one.

The best I can come up with is:-

You buy a well deserved new red car after working hard all your life. Your neighbour comes round and rather than discuss the merits of the new car, they instead only want to remind you of the crap car you had 30 years earlier when you first moved in. In fact, the same type of car that they are still driving today, though in blue.

It is essentially, just envy, wrapped up in a deflection technique where they discuss anything to get off the subject at hand. We should nod gracefully and let them get back to their missing bodywork (or the permission to buy it).

No offence to any City fans with a blue car....! ?

Probably won’t be popular for saying it but with the signings of players like George Fiend, Jack Hunt and Harvey Vale and with the likes of Scott Sinclair already onboard I think that unfortunately Rovers could do well this season. The team certainly looks a lot stronger than this time last year.

Come on Redland, surely you realise that well thought-out, insightful analysis is missplaced on this thread.

Now get back to taking the p1ss.

I guarantee if someone takes your bait you will respond. Don't pretend you have a Friday evening to live. We clearly love to hate you. We are fanatics. I don't care if you don't care that we care or not. Just know that it is all done with much love.

Yes, let’s think back to a time 33 years ago, before I was married or had children (my eldest is now 30). Honestly, is that the best you can do? (Trick question btw - the answer is yes, it is).

The expression ‘sad bastard’ was, no doubt, created just for you.

Lets hope this bus will be reversing fairly quickly !                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   This start of season feels so very different, doesn't it?

A renewed sense of purpose is running through Bristol Rovers. I can certainly feel it as well in the positive vibes from many on gas chat. The prospect of glory, promotion and possibly champions is certainly worth thinking about.

Our squad, strengthened seemingly every week, have returned to the training pitch with a fire in their bellies that's unmistakable as seen in our recent performances.

Joey Barton's passion is infectious and clearly attracts top players. We can be confident about the future. There's an aura of determination and unity around this club that's the hallmark of any footballing success.

A winning culture is being forged, and for those of us who've stood by Rovers through thick and thin, this feeling is as precious as silverware.

The whispers of hope are growing louder, not only within the stands but within gaschat. Our Dreams, long held in check, are converging with the reality of what our club can achieve. No longer looking down but looking up to the future.

Joey Barton has nurtured a spirit that is seen in of champions, and our style of play is imbued with the same energy, the same hunger that defined the great teams of yesteryears.

This season, the road to promotion is in front of us. The bus is here, as it has been since 2011, ever hopeful, waiting for us to climb aboard and carve our name in the annals of Bristol Rovers football history.

For me, I am daring to dream of the unattainable - To be Champions - the ground-breaking goal. Like everyone, I’ll take promotion in anyway.

With the right mindset and the talent in our squad anything is possible.

The bus is ready to ride again.

Just to get things back on track on this thread ...

Lamare Bogarde rejoins Bristol Rovers on a season-long loan from @AVFCOfficial

I wonder if it is just coincidence that his name is an anagram of Damage Laborer?

Sounds like he will be joining the legions of retired tradesmen to wreak havoc on the ground (with or without planning permission)!

You really are a bore . You’ve come on here & in your head you think you’re a intellectual . However , all you’ve done is lie & make yourself look exactly the stereotype of a 15er that we all know you are . A deluded , self righteous bell end with a massive inferiority complex .
