Strange signing for a record fee? A L2 player who 18 months ago was playing in the National league, after being released by 2 separate championship clubs.

This could either be a very shrewd highlighting of talent, or he struggles straight away?

What are the chances the EFL don`t get the paperwork till 12:15?

To go from Clarke-Harris to this guy is a bit of a come down.

Not quite sure what they are expecting to get from him?

I'm sure there is interest, but they seem to be spending more than anybody else is willing to pay in order to get it done quickly.

Likes a yellow card so will fit in at the swamp. Suspended by the end of Feb. Market value of 285k so looks like they’re paying over the odds for him 😂

Can't really see many teams falling over themselves to pay big money for a midfielder from a team 19th in L2?

It's almost like a prospect player (Murphy or Stokes) and taking a punt on Future development.

The thing is he will be thrown straight in as a sink or swim option.

Their record fee isn’t that much though. From the Post article:

“There is always debate regarding what actually is the League One club's record transfer fee, although it is still generally believed to be £370,000 paid to Queen's Park Rangers in 1992 for Andy Tillson.”

Yes but the huge extra revenue from the thousands buying tickets for the state of the art new stand means they can start paying millions in fees.

Apparently, as part of the deal, the 15ers insisted that he buys 30 x £10 tickets for the match on Saturday.

Also does he have a large family and lots of friends so that they can sit in the new stand and make it look less empty

I find the Academy thing quite sad really.  Compared to some of its neighbours, Kuwait have actually not fared too badly in terms of Human Rights violations....

......And then this happens to undo all that hard work!

Some of them are claiming that the club have paid well in excess of Conteh's release fee. Seems a bit strange if so, was there really that much competition for this bloke?

We know they don't get on well when it comes to release fees, mind.

The release fee is likely to be the starting point at which the club have to start a conversation, if 3 clubs come in, they can probably accept the highest offer above the release fee.

Hargreaves is a sycophant.

Can’t see any reason why this lad should cost more than £365k.

Yes, but as I said, I don't see very much on this guy that would warrant two or three clubs to start a bidding war.

Bearing in mind his recent article about the owners, that's one thing he isn't.

He was up Bartons arse all the time that thug was manager.

Now he's gone he's calling him out.

100% sycophant and now hypocrite.

Fair do's that he's had a go at the owners, but he's shown what he's about previously imo.

As you were chaps, reliable sources tell me that our new man 'John' was priced at a very reasonable 81% of a Tillson.

It seems someone may have been exaggerating :)

So the arse licking hack exaggerated ?

I'm shocked.

Well then it's not a release fee in the true sense because you would only need to meet it, but then ensure your offer to the player iro personal terms was stronger than your competition. Something very weird. It's not a release fee at all if the club are not compelled to accept an offer which simply matches it.

A Tillson, obviously.

Which has been trading at a fixed rate of Ti1 : £370,000 for the past 32 years I believe.

Had the rate not been kept artificially low by virtue of suspect economic policies and a closed currency, then adjusted for inflation Ti1 is now worth about £780,000.

https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calculator

So your latest signing/victim/hostage is worth roughly Ti0.4.

TBF, some on their "forum" are slagging the club off for that sly little dig.

Totally unprofessional - as always.

Yeh, the smile that's associated with being held hostage.

Rumour has it, that a few years ago, they paid a whopping £6.99 for a copy of "Irene's Greatest Hits" featuring Madge Catt-Hare and the Furballs.

On the release clause and whether it’s odd that it may (or may not) have been exceeded. Obviously all clauses can vary for one contract to another but I’d expect it to be worded along the lines of the club not being able to refuse an offer in excess of or equal to £X. Obviously the club can only accept one offer. If another club comes along and offer £X, the selling club may wait to see if anyone else will come in, if they doing, there’s no reason they wouldn’t offer £X+1 etc (until one of them gets to a number no one else is willing to pay).

I have more Championship clubs with the same number of appearances.

Does that make me worth more than a Tilson?

Obviously Klopp had got his resignation in before they could knock Liverpool out……

Yeah, he probably realised there was a very remote chance that Liverpool might have been invaded by the Saggy hordes, and felt that was too much of a gamble to be taken ever again.

Hence...I'm off, never to manage another English club again.  That should do it!

That’s not true re only accepting one offer.

The reality is that the offer is only accepted upon conclusion of a transfer. Terms may be agreed ‘in principle’ which will mean the selling club will grant the player permission to meet the buyer and hopefully negotiate personal terms. Or even a club could grant that permission whilst terms of the transfer are still being ironed out - that is typical on deadline day for instance; and puts the seller in a strong negotiation position because the player and their representatives could pressure the buying club into meeting the seller’s terms.

I suspect what happened here is rovers made an offer above the release clause but the terms were exclusivity to talk to the player over a short time frame. IE our offer is £x more but we want 48 hours to conclude the deal, if player talks to another club our offer is reduced to £y.

25,787 last night with approximately 2500 from Nottingham. Meanwhile they will be hoping that their ticket giveaway will grab enough fans away from the rugby to finally make 10,000 with approximately 1200 Oxford fans. They are the blue third of Bristol and if they are not careful, the "quarters" could become an apt name for them very soon.
