Terrible news. Absolute City legend. The club have left it too late to honour him by naming something after him.

Rest In Peace TC

Still remember being nervously stood outside the dressing room, with my padded autograph book. 6 years old, too scared to go in. TC noticed me, picked me up and took me in to meet the players and get my book signed.
I adored the man after that. Sad day.

Awful awful news. Can only echo the sentiments above. TC was central to the rebirth of this club. To those of us of a certain age he was the boss when we first started following city. Clearly loved the club and a true gent. His teams played some great football too. I challenge anyone to watch back his interview following the 1986 freight rover final and not get a lump in your throat seeing how much it meant to him. RIP Terry

Terry Cooper was instrumental in giving me my then proudest moment, of seeing the old Wembley scoreboard which had shown so many final scores with my team on it. This one read, Bristol City 3 Bolton Wanderers 0. It brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye. Thanks to him and condolences to his family.

A great manager of this club, a great player and a great man. Rest in peace Terry.

Sad news , the manager that revived the fortunes of the club in the early 80s. Remember the 3-0 Freight Rover success over Bolton at Wembley and his post match interview hugging the cup and breaking down showed how much he loved the club . RIP Terry.

Gutted to hear this news.

Most won’t realise but he was the person who turned this club around and that day at Wembley and his post match interview in 1987 after the LDV final shows what it meant to him

RIP TC

I sincerely hope the club recognises him because if anyone deserves a statue or a stand naming after them it’s him

Saved our club, gave us back some self-respect, propelled us upwards from the depths of despair, built an exciting squad with zero funds, took us to Wembley for the first time in our history, my fave City manager ever who gave me my fave times ever as a fan - I’m devastated ... rest easy Mr Cooper, and thanks ...

Absolutely gutted. First time I’ve ever shed a tear over the passing of a footballer from anywhere, let alone our club.

Named one of the small number of tables at my wedding 7 years ago after him. No words, other than total and utter legend. RIP Terry. Condolences to Mark and family.

I am absolutely gutted.

Terry Cooper is a total legend here.

He single handedly resurrected this football club.

A lovely warm human being.

This club needs to honour him some way, maybe rename the south stand, the Terry Cooper stand?

RIP Terry, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for dragging my beloved City back from the dark days of the early 80s.

Such sad news.

Some of my best memories as a fan of Bristol City came under his time as Manager :

Promotion from the old Div 4

Beating Rovers at Eastville in the Cup

Freight Rover final win at Wembley vs Bolton

Went to school with his son Mark, so my thoughts are with him & the rest of the family tonight.

Thank you Terry for looking after our club at such a crucial time, we owe you so much

RIP

TC saved our club and put the pride back into it. Had so many wonderful moments watching City under him. Promotion from div 4, the Hereford semi final  and the dismantling of Bolton at Wembley to name a few. Simply a legend. We should rename this South stand after him.

Those of a certain age will know what TC did for this club & he was instrumental in ensuring we remain today.

Few gave him sufficient credit for building & organising a squad from nothing and I mean nothing. Jordan later took his squad to greater heights but it's was TC's work ethic & foundation that turned City around.

Brilliant player in his prime.

Sad news indeed.

Gutted.

The first manager from when I was watching City. Loved the club, that Bolton interview showed TC in entirety but equally was ceding leading the team out to Clive Middlemass and Jock Rae. TC knew the value of every man, and every fan, to the club. Just a fantastic man.

Sleep well TC. Absolute Legend of a manager and a man

Having been too young to (really) understand the 1st division days, to be getting a ticket for the Freight Rover final in '86, watching us play a blinder, and seeing the scoreboard read Bristol City 3 Bolton Wanderers 0, lifting the trophy, the lap of honour, but to see the tears in the eyes of TC and the emotion in his voice in his interview after the game, holding that trophy like a newborn baby....this man had played in the great Leeds team of the '70's and the World Cup....yet you could see what it meant to him. He'd been on the journey as much as, if not more so, than us fans. A humble man who gave his absolute everything for us. The word 'legend' is bandied around way too often these days for people who achieve nothing in comparison. A modern day hero AND legend in my eyes.

A sad, sad day. RIP Terry Cooper. Thanks for everything. But most of all, thanks for being 'one', like 'us'.

An absolute Gentleman. Hardworking and down to earth. RIP Sir. Xx

The club surely has to recognise him now, properly.

Agreed. Let’s hope the Owner knows his club history and a worthy tribute of a club Legend (in the true sense of the word) is given.

RIP Terry.
