Following Charlie Watts’ recent death, I read a story from the Stones early years. In the 80s Jagger’s ego was causing problems in the band. He and Richards got back to their hotel in the early hours and Jagger decided to call Charlie Watts, shouting down the phone “where’s my drummer”. 20 minutes later Charlie walks into Jagger's room, lifted him up by the lapels and knocked him over with a right hook. “I’m not YOUR drummer” said Watts, “You’re MY singer!"

I'm in my late 60s so well remember the very early years (although I must confess to not being their greatest fan). Your right about Jagger & Richards as, over time, it's got to feel that they are the Stones. Academic of course, but I wonder how the band would have developed without Jones' untimely death.

There were rumours of him working with George Harrison, and others in the future. An extremely talented musician who probably wasn't suited to the rock n roll circus that the Stones became. Davefevs
Their forum lays all the blame at Paul Cook. Although one or two are starting ask Qs about which ones were Cook signings and which ones were Ashton’s, especially the ones that don’t fit Cook’s de facto 4231. There’s a decent gap to the playoffs, and some relative big hitters above them. This is gonna be a weird Lg1 this season where there could be serious repercussions for a few teams that don’t go up.
