Why would you start someone who wants to leave the club and put Bakinson on the bench. Seems odd to me.

Shop window, or NP might think he will be difficult to shift at the right money, so would rather make use of him.  Guesswork from me.  Not everything is so black and white is it?

I reckon Massengo in behind Wells. Bell has been playing left in preseason and on Saturday. Had a really good game off the bench against Villa. I am sure Nige will want to watch him more closely in that position tonight.

Janneh looked good on the wing too in a couple of preseason games so I expect him to be on the right.

Such a shame there is no way of watching it! Would have loved to have seen this team play tonight. Nice weather for it, wish i'd gone now.

I’d like to see Massengo central, with The two youngsters (???) wide.

Anyone know whether Edwards and Pearson are injured? A bit Surprised that one isn’t included tonight.

Not a lot of width in this side and if Jenna and Bell go wide, Wells will be isolated.
Simpson isn’t going to be bombing on from fullback.

I still feel this squad is better set for 352.

Probably had the conversation long before now.

Perhaps Kalas didn't want the captaincy this season?

That's what I'd expect if he does play further forward. I believe that is roughly how he has been used in the past for France U21s.

Guess we have to hope for a win and a decent, attractive-to-TV-companies, draw in round 2.

Yeh, it's a very young '3' behind Wells if this is the case. Williams is only 23 or so as well isn't he?

Surprised Kalas is not captain.

I really don't believe its any kind of sleight, the general opinion seemed to be it was an unnecessary distraction to his performances, so that's probably why?   I think too much emphasis is put on captaincy, the most vocal players will always make themselves  heard,    whoever they are?

Shows the squad has decent strength in depth if we can make 11 changes and still field a side that could compete in a Championship game.

Do you reckon they could? Against a side like Fulham or Bournemouth? Respect your opinion but if that was our day-to-day League XI I think we'd be bothering the bottom 6 places far more frequently than people would like.

Just now, JonDolman said:

Yeah I think it is where France have generally played him. He has rarely played there for us. The odd sub appearance maybe to help see out the game, and he did start there away at Wycombe last season.

Yeh I knew we'd seen him there for us on a rare occasion.

Oh tomas, i know you carried the team on your back last season when i couldnt motivate anyone to bother trying, and i know you kicked arse in the euros, but you arent captain anymore,,, that guy wells over there, who couldnt be bothered playing on the wing, i think he would make a better captain than you, hope thats ok.

This is a shop window game…. I reckon. Question is, who’s in the window?

Nagy - definitely

Kalas - probably

Moore - probably (subject to Kalas)

Massengo - maybe?

Wells - maybe?

slightly surprised Palmer and Bakinson aren’t starting… I don’t think NP would lose too much sleep about losing either.

He’s not captain material sunshine, everyone can see it. Good call from Pearson. Rubbish call from Holden for giving it to him in the first place, quite frankly.

Where did it actually come from that he wanted to leave?

The mouth of the saviour himself. Post-Blackpool.

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-manager-nigel-pearson-5756604

When asked as to whether the decision to leave him out was related to injury or a tactical decision, Pearson said : "Adam Nagy is fine."

The City manager then added: "But he has expressed a wish to leave and it’s more important to play players that want to be here."

Pearson said Nagy had expressed his desire to leave "privately" and confirmed the club are yet to receive any bids for the former Bologna midfielder who's under contract until next summer.

Early contender for “Post of The Season with Fewest Actual Truths and the Most Completely Baseless Statements”

Such few words and minimal use of sentences, and yet a work of infinite fantasy.

Good effort.

Expect Kalas will play and talk the same way regardless of whether he is captain or not. Can't really see it being that much of a problem for him ,either.

Nagy playing is a very interesting one.

Is it to be in the shop window? (most likely)

Clearly he hasn't thrown his toys out the pram, as he wouldnt' get selected?

If no offers, would he be in the equation for the rest of the season?

Has something changed since Saturday? (I don't think so, but Nige's comments do seem to contradict selection this eve)

Some fans need to try opening their eyes - I don’t see him going anywhere this season.

No its ok thank you. I would rather see how we go this season and get behind him.

Plus it would be wasted as I am not the worlds biggest Kalas fan, and I actually think Wells is under-appreciated, under-used, and wasted by not being played up top. I fully endorse tonights captaincy selection.

Pearson on RB just now.

On XI changes - strength of it is testament to the squad. A luxury to field a strong side and bench. Mentions relentless season and that he wants progress in the cup and to give players a chance to show what they are about. He expects a strong performance. Decent situation to be in.

On the mix of experience and youth - Yeh it's great. Mentions Massengo and Williams in particular. Wells as well. Just generally says that competition for places is good. Semenyo has been training on the grass again.

CODs injury - he should be available for the weekend.

That was it.

That’s really rude. We’re all entitled to our opinion.

Maybe you didn’t have your eyes open to this:

Palmer the sub who was substituted (always an insult to a pro footballer)

Palmer who has completed how many 90 mins?

Palmer who had a 17 year old selected ahead of him

and the main thing I was thinking: Palmer the very high earner - and NP has been clear about having to reduce the wage bill.

All about opinions and being respectful with them.

I really don;t think that Tomas Kalas gives a flying  pheck    who is captain, he has nothing to prove as far as i am concerned............ as long as he is the Best defender at the club

Well that’s a view and he’s definitely working hard. However, he’s a massive earner, rarely gets through 90 mins and was a substituted sub who had a 17 year old picked ahead of him.
Any interest in the big earners and I reckon they will be gone regardless of ability and form.

Depends, Did Nagy go to him privately to say he wanted to leave but wanted it kept private, or did he go to Pearson privately and say let people know I want to leave.

I am betting option 1, but even if it was option 2 you would have thought it would have been controlled through the club media department, rather than blurted out in a answer to a question about a current Bristol city player.  So I think option 1 was the reality.

Doesn't sit easy with me and I doubt if it is the case that it was option 1 that team members can trust the manager when they approach him privately.

Screams of throwing someone under a bus to me.

Very pleased with the O'Dowda news. Just need Semenyo back now and hope for no more injuries for a while!

You've a proper soft spot for COD don't you.

I had to pop away when he was on. Anything more interesting than the usual "No easy games, great to see the fans travel so well, we're just hoping for the win" type stuff?

Well at least you got all the details of a conversation that you don't know how it went before coming to a conclusion that NP has thrown Nagy under the bus and then strangely picked him to start in the next game.

My theory of the Nagy Vs Bakinson thing, I wonder if it's down to how Pearson sees the team shape/set-up. Nagy & Williams look more like the King/James in the first game. Bakinson has caused us problems in deep positions, missed placed passes set up as many chances as his forward passes. I see him playing in a more forward position when he plays.

I'm surprised that he went with a new team, but , it does give him a look at everyone in a competitive setting. Now Saturdays starting XI gets interesting.
