Anyone over 50 remember Billy Woof? Played for Middlesbrough, early 80s. You think I make this up, but it's true: Mr and Mrs Woof of Gateshead had a boy in the 50s and they called him William.

Anyway, he's in my Great Name X1 along with Steve DEATH, Reading keeper in the 70s.

I could use some more (come on, it's another tedious international break, with not enough to moan about with the City as we speak), help me out here ....

I see your Steve Death and raise you a Norman Conquest, who once conceded 17 goals against an English FA XI in 1951 for Australia...

I don't want to credit Swinetown but Danny Invincible is a strong name.

Marvelous Nakamba is one of my current faves.

Paul Dickov has to be a shoe in... As should (David) Currie and (Brian) Rice as a pair.

With Tony Cook in goal? Admittedly he would have been about 80 to play in the same team as them.

Qpr had a shittu and a doudou in the same team

We’ve had a few shittus and doudous over the years, albeit they played under different names while with us!

Particular favourites;

Andre Muff - ex Swiss international

Ralph Minge - ex east German international

Rod Fanni - current Marseille and France footballer

There's a trend here....

I'm not having Ralph Minge FFS ?

Ralph Milne was a bag of fanny which is about as close as I can get!

..............Yes there is, it’s the nucleus of the team for Rudolph’s testimonial game.

Can you imagine the furore on here if we had a keeper that short, Fielding is 5' 11" and slated as being too short.  I read up on Steve Death and he's regarded as one of Reading's finest goalkeepers

I played with a 5'8" keeper who was released from Southampton aged 18 as he was deemed too short.

He had a leap on him that was incredible and hands like shovels, couldn't be knocked off the ball in the air, and was as quick as lightening off his line.

He was a combined services keeper and also a combined services basket ball player, probably the best keeper I played with.

Unfortunately, it was the 70s and you needed to be big whatever position you played to make it in the pro game. The absolutely worst time for English football.

This would be useful when we're a goal down just before added time:

s-l640.jpg

Our very own real life midfield pairing of Matty Bryant and Andy May from the early 90s.

(I think I heard this coincidence in TV commentary, I wasn't sharp enough to pick up on it by myself)
