Been to loads of away games over the years but the one game that springs to mind is the 0:1 victory at Arsenal on the opening day of the season after promotion to the fist devision. I’m glad I was there!

Me too. My brother in law is a Arsenal freak and when we have a barny I still mention our great win and totally has no come back.

Cardiff 3-1 in 2001 with the great Murray celebration and a bit of a random one Reading 3-1 again around 2001. Lee matthews and peacock were playing like Yorke and Cole that night, topped off by some kids in front of us mooning the Reading fans ?.

special mention to WBA in the fa cup in 2016 cracking atmosphere that day.

I was sat in the stand next to a Coventry fan during this game.

We argued throughout the game, it got quite nasty and we almost came to blows at one stage.

At the end of the game, when we were both safe, we hugged each other and went onto the pitch together as the best of friends.

The most sureal game I have ever been to.

Bradford 1989 - quarter final of the league cup - what an atmosphere ...

It was the sense of relief at the end having scored so early and Bradford battering us for what seemed like about three hours!

That and Paul Jewell`s snotty comments about them having an easy run to the next round after drawing us - have that you arrogant *****!

I was in my teens nd I remember that night so well. The night started off a bit aggresive with me and my mate from Bris school encouraged his older brother to take us.

we were at an end of the ground full of City supporters on a lower level with Coventry fans above us. I remember so much shit thrown at us at it was a bit of a worry as we were only in our teens.

we sang and we sang and we sang and I will always remember that night.

I suppose we al have great memories of away matches and it depends on which era and who you went with and how important the match was at that time.

I'm going to go for a more recent one, Man City at the Etihad in the Carbao Cup. The atmosphere was amazing all game but when we went 1 nil up just before half time the roof came off. I think this will always stick in my mind because it's not often in my lifetime we've be 1 nil up away against the Champions and also it's not often we reach that stage of a competition.

In your era yes and most probably the best ones ever.

I think I’d probably agree with you. I was at all the games mentioned above so far, and if I was forced to choose one it would probably be that Coventry game.

It felt like you just had to be there, however, whatever, and I don’t think I’ve ever been to an away game with so many City fans. And they seemed to be everywhere outside and inside the ground.

Then there was the utter despair when it looked like we were going to lose. The ecstasy of pulling the deficit back - and if I remember right a draw was good enough for us whatever happened at Sunderland.

Then the tension of hanging on to that draw.

And the celebrations afterwards. Although I don’t have quite the same memory of that as some: my mate had come up from London and when he was on his way back to the station to get a train got punched by a Coventry fan.

I was in the open end right behind the goal where we scored, right in amongst the mob that you can see jumping up, about 10 of us bunked off school as 14 year olds and we were spotted by teachers on the TV getting on the coach at AG before the game.

Far too many to list all. But a few that will live with me forever. not just for result.

Cardiff 2001, Mansfield 4-5, most Blackpool trips win, lose or draw  , charlton Tuesday night when we went top of championship, both Newcastle trips, Fulham is always good, in fact I love most London games.

Notts County Tinmans 500th game.

For me, it has to be April 1965 when City beat Shrewsbury away, with John Atyeo scoring 4 second half goals. There were no YouTube videos in those days so I’ve recaptured, with a bit of art work, the third City goal as Atyeo leaps high above the Shrewsbury centre half to power a header into the net

PS - I am available for commissions if anyone would like a memorable moment of their life recreated as a piece of art

I think our win in the Freight rover trophy 3-0 against Bolton in 1985 is mine, how proud I felt watching my team walk out onto the pitch at Wembley stadium and being surrounded by so many fellow city fans we won it a few times after that but that first ever visit to Wembley and the result made it a day I and many will never forget.

Back in City’s promotion year (to what was then the First Division) we had two consecutive away games against two of our promotion contenders, Sunderland and West Brom.

A 0-0 draw with Sunderland was followed (or preceded, I forget now) by a 1-0 win at The Hawthorns.

Holding on for that victory, under a constant barrage of crosses and shots, especially knowing how important it was to our promotion hopes, was nail biting to say the least.

The siege of the Alamo! The ball barely left our penalty box, never mind our half!!

I’m pretty sure that it was also that first season in Div 1 when we played at QPR on a wet Tuesday night. And on a very wet pitch - as they often were then. A long, hopeless boot from the back was going straight to the QPR keeper when it hit a puddle and literally stopped. Tom Ritchie ran onto it and scored the only goal of the game!

Definitely not a ‘match to remember’ but I always remember that goal.

Im beginning to think we were quite fortunate to stay up that season!

Forest, Leicester, Bradford away in the Cup were all brilliant. Bolton freight rover, Gas Eastville in the cup (1-0 down, 2-1 up) all bring back good memories.

Some of the best memories for me though were those long away trips up North where part of the “fun” was getting there and then getting back, often after some needle. Ashby de la Zouch was a regular stop off for the lot I went with and that was usually tasty. Also went through a spell of calling in on Swindon on the way back from London clubs - the locals were not amused.

Watching football back in the 80s, 90s was not for the faint hearted. All pretty tame nowadays.

Two games at Bradford stand out, the 1-0 cup run 'battle of the Alamo'

and then the 6-0 romp to seal our promotion in 2015 under Cotts.

There weren't many of us there that night but we were so relentless and powerful.

We gave them an absolute battering and partied long into the night knowing that we were going up.

superb champagne football at its very best

Amazing night that was.

At half time I bumped into an old schoolmate who I hadn't seen for almost 50 years! (He apparently has lived in Manchester for years).

I woke up the next morning.......

...we'd been promoted????........

...we'd won 6-0 away?????..…...

It must have been a dream, cuz Mike Green was in it, and I hadn't seen him for 50 years!!!!!

Pretty sure the Sunderland game was minus Paul Cheesley who was called up to England U 23's.

There are many highlights, Arsenal in Div 1, Coventry to stay up, Chester to seal promotion from the 4th, the incredible 5-4 win at Mansfield, a 4-1 at Barnsley, numerous cup games against non league sides and, of course, any win against the Gas, Swindle or Baadiff. However, I'm going for the 1-0 win against Spurs at White Hart Lane 76/77. After surviving crowd trouble which saw us confined to the stands, and an absolute battering by Spurs especially Hoddle, to win it at the death was an amazing feeling. I was walking on air back to Tottenham Hale tube and sunk a fair few pints of Sam Smiths Old Brewery Bitter in the Merry-Go-Down that night.

Whilst I agree with many of the previous suggestions I can add this one.

Dec 28th Eastville howling gale of against us in first half and gas go in leading 1:0. At my first “away” derby in the muller road end feeling glum as most of my peers at school supported rovers (KLB Wotton Under edge) if there is anyone of that era on here.

I was down at the front, my dad bless him someway behind me. An Elder red next to me says “ Cheer up cocker, we got the wind this half”.
Cue Kieth Fear (twice), Trevor Taunton, and Jimmy Mann and we win 4:1

Made going back to school in Jan just that little easier..

That was the team that next season was to get to Div 1

Still have the somewhat crumpled program. A guy called Durrell played for us in that game but I don’t remember him at all.

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! And repeat!

Oh yes it has! I agree though - the first game after promotion to the First Division after decades away, and the fixture seemed to be a cruel one, with the danger of a thumping. Then to win it, and to be there!

Alongside the couple of ‘classics’ in this thread that I was lucky enough to be there (Coventry & Rovers in the Cup), one that sticks out in my mind was a cup-tie at Notts County. We were in Div 4, they were in Div 1 & we were packed into the corner of the ground (with a floodlight pylon in with us I think) - we went ahead (think it was Alan Crawford that scored), then we went 2-1 down. Tom Ritchie scored an equaliser but I didn’t see it - as the chance fell to him someone said “put it in Tom” and then we all fell forward and everyone went mental. Really enjoyed that one..!

The cheating bastard Rachid Harkouk going down two yards outside the box like he`d been shot and Norman Glover giving a penalty will always stick in my mind from that game.

Wins at Old Trafford, twice, Arsenal, Leeds and Liverpool in FA Cup, and tons more over many years. All of these were as the underdog and so good to watch and savoir.

But the most important, IMO, was at Chester City in 1984. What an atmosphere we brought to the game and how those players responded and worked so hard.

PS, I remember in the same vein, a Forest fan telling me the most important game for him, was the one that got them promoted before they won the First Division, two European Cups and a string of success to follow.

Fantastic day mate - but it was 1986 I think - I still remember being bewildered and close to tears when I was actually watching our boys playing at Wembley - in those days it was special and rare for teams at our level to grace that famous pitch ...

R*vers 1-4 City : My first taste of the local derby games ( Kids ask you Grand parents what they are ? )

Coventry 2-2 : around 15,000 traveling, mental night.

Chester 1-2 : Possibly the best ever. Mad day on the beer , we win and get promoted. Magical.

Swansea 1-5 : Super Bob being Super.

Leicester 1-2 : The Cup game that introduced Jackie to the World.

Forest 1-1 : League Cup Semi final, AKA the Alamo.

Man City 2-1 : Another League Cup Semi, we were very good .

Been lucky, we had coaches from Hanham or Old Market so we made sure we enjoyed our days out, even when we were losing most weeks. The ones above are the ones that jump out, if I put my mind to it I could probably come up with more. Away days are brilliant.

I tend to remember the trips that reflect the bizarre eccentricity or romance of the game. Walking across that water meadow to get into Cambridge, the mental walk around the allotments at Watford, or one season opener at Carlisle years and years ago, where the terrace was made of old railway sleepers with grass- basically hay- growing up between them.

Plenty stand out, most have been mentioned, Hereford away over Christmas when we were bottom of Div 4, we beat them to climb off the bottom of the table, a nothing game to the rest of the football World but to us that were there that night it was like winning the FA cup, the start of the recovery.

It's a tough one between the Man City & Mansfield games, I can't imagine the Man City occassion (& sheer quality of opposition) being matched in the near future. Experiencing that 5-4 has probably made me think "5 minutes to go, there's a chance we can win this" at more hopeless times than I care to admit.

There's also 3 from Carlisle that stand out for different reasons but all of them wins.

3-0 in 97-98 must have been when we started to get momentum, then 3-1 in 2007 got us to within a few points of the illusive promotion and finally the 3-2 when JET scored his hat trick, we hadn't won for ages.

We were in a Pub in Old Market, game announced off on Radio Bristol. All a bit dubious so waited until they said it again.
Mate had his car so off we went on our way to Tottenham, had to watch someone. Got past the Bath turning and Radio 2 announced the games that were off. Obviously our game not among them. Called the pub and arranged to pick up the coach at a Services on the M5. We were lucky and Radio Bristol is still shit.

The Mansfield game stands out for me - what an amazing few minutes when we went from 4-2 down to 5-4 up. There was quite a fiesty atmosphere that game too.

Anfield in 1994 was a wonderful experience.

The Man City game was great too - especially when we went in at HT 1-0 up. Brilliant.

Watford away in the 1997-98 promotion season was also memorable (1-1 draw). There were thousands of City fans there, and I remember Goater scoring to put us 1-0 up after running with the ball from the halfway line. What a superb finisher he was.

Another really special one was a trip to Bournemouth just after Pulis left. Very joyous scenes in the away end that day, it was such a relief that he was gone. City winning was the icing on the cake, but the sense of relief was at Pulis leaving was really something.

Great selection, I was only a kid and lived in West Somerset in a family that didn’t like football so couldn’t get to the first 2.

I went to most of the rest and agree the Chester away day was probably the best. A real turning point after a record breaking slump.
