Now James is fit can we get rid of Bakinson

Another disgraceful display from Bakinson.

Massengo, Scott & Pring put him to shame again today.

Every player accept him put in a shift today including the subs.

His effort, tackling, tracking back and defending are as bad as I have seen.

He literally picks up no one up during the game. Jogs at pace while the game passes him by.

He looks like he trying not to get to a tackle or maybe he is just that lazy.

Vyner did not have a great game but at least the effort is there.

All the kids are really putting the effort in Banarous and Tanner are the same as the other kids when they play and really put in a shift.

Why is he tolerated and even in the side is beyond me.

I would have thought NP has seen enough from him. He’s first impression of him was right so why he is still getting a start I just can’t see.

We maybe be short of midfielders at the moment but I not really sure is even one himself certainly not at this level.

Please get rid as soon as possible.

Much better than last game. Frustrating player, there was one stunning first time ball from our half then 30 seconds later fluffs a 5m pass under no pressure.

I think he has the best range of passing at the club just shows it far far too inconsistently.

His natural one touch passing, with range and vision is 2nd to nobody at the club. It's the off the ball stuff and a lack of physicallity that is missing. Too often stood in space ball watching, waiting for it to come to him when we don't have it and whilst i think he did show willing to get close to the opposition on occastions today, i don't think he makes the most of that lanky frame in knicking the ball away. He's never going to boss a midfield but he should be making more of impact on the defensive side.

Sorry don’t see the love in.
He had a decent first half (but most of the team did), but lost times of the amount of times he misplaced simple passes, couldn’t control the ball, and dosnt use his obvious physical attributes to his advantage. Weak in the tackle, and often just leaves a leg out. Would be first name off team sheet once players return

Can’t argue with much of that. He reminds me of JET albeit in a completely different position. Just to be clear I loved JET but he frustrated me as he had so so much talent but did not always use it. I fear Tyreeq may be the same.

Certainly with JET I was never sure how important football was to him, lots of other interests.

What love in? He is consistently singled out for performances no worse than other players.

Even people like myself defending him are saying how frustrating he is, just that he might be worth sticking with given he clearly has some talent that he just isn't delivering consistently

"Languid" is the word to describe him.

This type of player always attracts much criticism from the fanbase as it often looks like they aren't trying.

I actually like him as a player and very much hope we persevere with him, decent squad player at worst.

Thought NP was right to sub him when he did today though, same with COD.

Controversial but I think Vyner has the best range of passing bar Palmer.

Its amazing on this forum how fans see things differently.i thought bakinson was awful both halfs and was rightly taken off.how he gets in the side I do not know.for someone who plays in the centre of the midfield he cant tackle of head a ball which is amazing 4 someone 7 feet tall.

Re bold bit…You’re probably right, but that’s the whole point of a squad at this level, they don’t all be the same.  Even Liverpool and Man City don’t look as good without certain players. But as it stands, since he’s come back into the team v Barnsley, he’s played a part in getting 10 points from 7 games, so at least played a part in our better results.

“He’s never going to boss a midfield….”  That’s probably true at Championship level as he’s 23 years old and , if he hasn’t come close to doing now, it’s a bit doubtful he will.  He could have a good career at League 1 level

Strange how often team dynamics, formation and tactics get missed by some fans.

Not just a case of "shoe horning" the best eleven individuals into a 4-4-2 and sending them on their merry way.

Exactly, but if man-management too….recall what he did post-match with Towler, who he took off for fear of a second yellow then praised his role in two wins.

Part of the Pearson style is to be a team / squad.  Tyreeq has played a part, even if he might not normally be first choice.

Disgraceful ?
with a very young midfield I thought as a unit they were well organised & coached today . Do I think tyreeq is good enough , possibly not but.
We also have Han Noah who at times , especially at sheff Utd chases a ball like a under 10 player . I thought with wiemann and as a team we stifled derby today .
there was about 30 yards between our back 3 & our front players. Derby wanted to play through us but there was no space . Their only outlet was their right winger . We controlled them really well.

Stick James into a MF3 with HNM & Bakinson and it would bring more out of Nan & TB. Our MF is lightweight, but any MF needs balance.
Have all ball winners= no creativity
Have all creative players= Noway of winning the ball
Bakinson has attributes that need players around him to help out. HNM is similar you want a steadying influence or ball winner and then let the others do the creative stuff.

Agreed, not totally sold on NPs man management overall so far (as you are aware) but like all aspects this has improved since he came back from illness.

I am definitely getting more hopeful and seeing some light !

Yes  disgrace same as Sheffield U.

just watch him for 10 mins in any game and you will agree.

Not sure why people are still defined him.

He is never a Championship player that’s obvious.

He shows how desperate we are at the moment in the middle of the park with injuries.

The good news is he time is coming to end once Williams is fit not sure he will even make the bench.

I have been critical of Bakinson in the tackle and going into 50/50 balls. He didn’t shirk tackles today. He went into the odd aerial battle. All that with his normal quality on the ball getting his head up and looking for runners.

Idk what you expect from city players but sounds like you want Bakinson to be Vieira reincarnated. He is at Bristol City for a reason. We don’t have a complete midfielder at the club. Bakinson adds what no one else can which is vision and a forward pass. The abuse of the lad is embarrassing.

You mean honesty.

Yes honestly. He is a very good player. I’d pick him over James personally. At his best think he offers more than James. But the sub was a good one today. Personally I’d have one or the other. Not both on the pitch at the same time. So it is a preference thing. For me, today, it 100% suited Bakinson and his vision more than James and his graft. Thought James was excellent when he came on but can’t play every game so having both is a good situation.

Personally just think it is disgusting the abuse Bakinson gets. I am not sure he has ever been the worst player on the pitch. Yet he gets talked about like he is of conference level. That is not the case. You have to build a midfield to support Bakinson at his current ability and maybe not as much so for James. But we are dealing with a 23 year old in his second season at this level. NP has made his statements about players not committed yet Bakinson has been involved to almost Weimann and Martin levels and has gotten an extension. It is clear he is rated. Yet @Better Redwants rid. We are a championship club and we won’t get a complete player at any position.

That is the problem with this midfield. In his career, Han Noah has only scored approx  2 league goals in 78 matches; Bakinson  has only scored  7 in 78 and James 10 in 185. In other words approx 19 goals from 345 games from this midfield 3

I said at half time, I felt HNM and Bakinson both did ok as individuals but poorly as a pair...

No cohesion there which a better team would have punished, however both worked hard and had positive moments going forward. Still not sure HNM is ready to play in a midfield two and don't think Bakinson compliments him.

However Tyreeq did ok today especially first half and hopefully James coming back allows both players to flourish a bit more. Its a strange one as there is definitely a player in there but I'm concerned that Bakinson won't ever find that consistency at championship level.

Think he's technically got the lot, would like to see him physically impose himself more in games. On that note, what caused the handbags with the Derby player? I only saw the end but looked a feisty one?

? how can you preserve an asset but he is a L1 or L2 player? How much we making off him if Accrington come in for him? ? surely we’d be better off letting him leave on a free?

Mate get a few glasses of water down you. Maybe some ibuprofen and paracetamol and sleep this off mucker.

I would put Beneraus and Scott before him on that list. I would rather play both instead of him at least they will give 100% effort every game even if not in the best position.

Unsure why Bakinson is getting hammered here, had a decent 1st half. If anyone should be criticised it was how poor Vyner was in the game today giving the ball away for fun and how pretty crap we were in the 2nd half as a team.

Yes I have slatted Bakinson lots . But thought past two home games he was decent and helped the team. I was unable to go today so can not comment on his performance today . I just wonder if his team orders maybe just does not allow his preferred game style to flourish and he struggles with that. Because even bring kind to him he is not in the side with a fully fit midfield of the squad

I have just returned to this thread to find that my thoughts about @Better Red and his post were correct.

Clearly a pre match opinion posted post match. The bit I hadn't considered is that he has obviously upset him in some terrible way, cut him up in traffic maybe or bought the last pasty before him in Greggs.

I am not sure if it’s just hope on your parts to wish he gets better or it’s just you can’t judge a player.

I don’t suffer that problem I can see a player who is or is not good enough.

Sadly for Bakinson he is not good enough.

Sure I could be proved wrong but we all know deep down I won’t.

Just because he is young 23 (young?)he will get better. Yes you are right but it won’t be at this football club or at this level.

I will repost in a few weeks (maybe even Saturday) when he can’t even get into the team and again in January when he won’t even be in the squad.

Will look forward to your comments then.

Aaaand once again your logic is flawed, and you are presenting opinion as fact.

The vast majority of replies defending Bakinson acknowledge his clear deficiencies and that he probably isn't first choice when everyone is fit. If he is dropped, that won't magically make your diatribe on him correct, just that we have better midfielders at the club.

You are also stating as fact he will be leaving to go to a league one club. Possible? Yes. But you cannot use hypotheical situations as an absolute to criticise.

You clearly have made up your mind, as your original post seemed to have very little to do with his performance against Derby.

Well said.  And you don’t exercise a club option I’d you’re looking to move him to Lg1 anytime soon.  The likelihood in this current market is that players dropping down a league are T likely to command much if anything of a fee (unless Ipswich are buying ?).  In which case you’d just kept his contract run down.

Nige is trying to get the best out of the resources he has.  Some players won’t be here if he gets the squad to where it needs to be, but the constant “Bakinson Lg1” stuff is a bit boring, especially when it comes after a win, or worse when it’s been part of a poor team performance where there really isn’t a need to scapegoat anyone.

Logic flawed…

Boring…

Really because I am right.

I am not scapegoating him we won.

Pre judged comment partly true that’s because he is a disgrace every time he plays.

Was he better yesterday - No

Never said fact it’s clearly just an opinion.

Its just happens to be right based on facts. The facts are watching him play and then applying my brain processing skills based on my knowledge of watching football.

That tells my he is ‘below the standard that this club needs to progress, tell me I am wrong - Silence…

Then he ain’t good enough so stop talking rubbish.

I’m not into writing players on or off ever - thought Bakinson was decent first half, but as I said on match day thread, he was wasteful at times and loose with possession early on IMO before he found his range a bit.

What I’m increasingly thinking is that the fans, have got Bakinson wrong, as a player. Perhaps it was the comparisons to Viera when he first came or perhaps it’s his stature.

But I just don’t think he is the defensive Viera/Fernandinho player some think he is. The defensive side of his game isn’t great, but it also shows a lack of experience. By comparison, I don’t think James (don’t hear many complaints about him defensively) is necessarily miles better physically than Bakinson but just has the streetwise experience to place himself better positional/read the game etc.

I think recently we the squad we have, whilst also missing James and Williams, the likes of Bakinson and HNM are sometimes having to play a role in the team that just doesn’t suit their natural game, as I write that, I remember NP saying something similar about Bakinson.

If we’re on the front foot, he can look very good, if he’s forced to defend when we don’t have one of our holding midfielders alongside him, he will be exposed despite his best efforts. So for me, it’s as much about how we use him or how he fits into a NP style team rather than simply is he good enough at this level.

At the moment I would suggest TB is a squad player who is getting more playing time than he would should others be fit. His faults are there for all to see but so are his attributes. He will improve, that is certain and playing will help, but to single him out is unfair. Plenty of others can be criticised for their commitment and performance but seem to get away with it. Maybe it's because he's 6ft3 he's more noticeable lets hope it's nothing else.

That's just a convoluted definition of opinion, which is subjective. Facts are objective.

You only have to read a matchday thread to get that people watching a game don't "see" the same things. It's all filtered through our preconceptions, including any bias for or against particular players.

By all means stick to your opinion but don't suggest it is fact.

Controversial but I think Vyner has the best range of passing bar Palmer.

Really????

Zak has a floated pass that he plays on about 90% of his passes, it's a lazy ball that normally is played over to the left hand side of the penalty area; and easily dealt with.

There was a time in the second half at one of our corners, when Zak was left by himself at the back (I thought it was a bit strange, given that he is over 6ft). The ball got hoofed away by Derby. Zak had two options available to him, back to Bentley or pass to Massengo. There was no-one within 10 yards of him from an poosition standpoint. What does he do? Heads it out for a throw in.

And that is Vyner unfortunately....

Panics on the ball, switches off positionally, gets beaten in the air far to easily for someone over 6ft; and don't get me started on his abilities on a one on one situation.

I can see he's trying to do his best, but playing alongside him must be a nightmare. He's one of those players that you can't trust to do the basics properly.

Blimey, I think that is the most Trumpesque post I've seen in a long time.

Top work there.

So in essence it is only your opinion, but your opinion is right, and on that basis the other poster is wrong?

Was not the ball to try and bring down.  Header was right option, just hit the wrong part of his head.  If he brings it down and it bounces 10 yards away from him, he gets rollicked!
