BCFCGav
This plus maybe 1 sale (though I'm not sure who...) would allow Nige to get one or two more faces in. Considering his current acquisitions are Atkinson, Simpson, Tanner, James and King that's good news (I realise Simpson is contentious but if nothing more than a mentor for Tanner he'll have use).

Bar BS3
Odd that Transfer market have his current value listed as £9m - I know that's far from accurate, but as a guide..! Having sold him for £13m+ it would take a huge transfer fee to net us anything like "millions" IF (&that's a big IF, based on the size of the initial fee) we had a 20% sell on clause, then it's going to take a fee of £25m+ to net us that kind of windfall. Possible, of course, especially at his young age, but for a player who's, unproven at Premier league level, and the possibility that the sell on clause may be 10% rather than 20%, I don't think we should get too excited at the hope of this bolstering our transfer budget my any significant amount - all helps though, of course. 4

As @Coxy27 says above, I think Newcastle would be the most beneficial suitors for us. Their new owners will be bucking the trend & splashing cash around over the next few windows. To appease their fans if nothing else. Whether a championship CB will be the statement they want to make, may be questionable. If they are as wealthy as is being touted, then they may be happier paying more for a bigger name. Eddie Howe obviously knows him though, so that may be irrelivent. 3 minutes ago, Curr Avon said: Because there's a good chance that Newcastle will be relegated? wendyredredrobin
Normally 20% of the profit, so if we sold him for £13m and he is sold for £23m we net £2m as I understand it, but even though the Magpies may have cash to splash, I can't see them paying that much for a Championship defender. However even a £5m mark up would net us £1m which we can put towards buying the No. 9 we so desperately need.

tin
Any potential windfall will be a percentage (20%?) of the profit Bournemouth make on what they paid us (£13m) for him, so it might not net us a huge sum in the current market. Davefevs
FWIW I have Kelly down at £15m plus £6m of add-ons plus a sell-on, from a very credible source. On the basis of a 20% sell-on: £20m - nets us £1m £25m - £2m £30m - £3m etc. All very useful, but not earth-shattering in the context of our losses.

Yes, it is, but it becomes diminishing returns, and only continues as long as the player is sold for a profit. An example: Kelly sold £15m with 20% sell on to Bournemouth Bournemouth sell him to Newcastle for £25m (£10m profit / 20% - City get £2m) with a 10% sell on Newcastle sell him to Liverpool for £50m (£25m profit / 10% - Bournemouth get £2.5m, but City get 20% of that, so £0.5m) no sell on A. Liverpool sell him to AC Milan for £75m (the chain has stopped because Newcastle has no sell on agreed). B. Liverpool sell him to Aston Villa for £35m (the chain would stop regardless of whether Newcastle had agreed a sell on or not, because there is no profit.

Yes, with Kodjia there was talk about whether it was a 40% profit or 20% of the fee….but I think that was Angers fans getting excited, or maybe stuff getting lost in translation. Webster, I heard stories that Ipswich had only put a 10% profit in. Adam Armstrong’s transfer had a 40% profit sell on in it….so Z Newcastle did alright out of his recent £15m move (£10m @ 40%). pride of the west
Assuming Newcastle were interested at 25 mil which is the point any sell on becomes worthwhile in the grand scheme of things, would we perhaps be better off if he stays at Bournemouth for the time being with any other potential add ons we may have put in place that would become null and void if he moves? Just putting it out there. Say a sell on would net us 2mil now. What if for instance we have money on 75 appearances and then 100 appearances? Plus a big bonus should he get an England cap? Its only going to take a good start next year in the prem and maybe an injury or two and southgate will be looking. He's already well on the radar in that regard. I dont think it's beyond the realms of possibility that staying put and hitting targets would net us more.
Davefevs
I’ve no idea what happens to add-ons when a player transfers again. Davefevs
42 minutes ago, billywedlock said: Far from an expert, but I have discussed deals of this nature with an agent in the past. It really depends on the contract of course . There are some where the adds on become permanent in the event of a sale, meaning that in this case the £6M becomes due on sale. Others where the percentage sell on is varied depending on the status of the add ons. So for example if the add ons have been paid there is an x percentage of profit, or y percentage in the event the player moves early. As ever there are so many variables. There is quite a lot of sophistication , though if in the case of Kelly , 30% of the fee was variable, you would have to think that if he is sold on, we would have got close to that original fee requested. The issue then, is that for Bournemouth, any sale is pretty pointless as their profit will be minimal unless it is a fee nearer to £30M. They have him on a long contract and are going to be in the Prem next year. Kelly may have his ideas of course, Newcastle are a huge club and Howe is his man. You can never tell. Looking from the outside, he is probably best staying where he is, getting promoted, performing in the Prem and getting a renewed Liverpool interest for example. From our point of view it is unknown how much, if any of the add ons we have had and when. But we could do with a few million right now !!! Brownhill could yet be a surprise move in January too. Come on come we need these moves to happen ! Ta for the insight.

Great watch! Re add-ons, been reading up on some previous tribunal decisions, here’s one AARON CRESWELL Aaron Creswell had made 70 or so league appearances for Tranmere Rovers when, aged 21, he rejected a new long term contract offer. He signed for the Championship club Ipswich Town on a three year contract. The PFCC decided that Ipswich Town should pay Tranmere Rovers an initial compensation fee of £240,000. An additional £45,000 was ordered in respect of the player making 15, 30, 45 and 60 appearances for Ipswich Town. - appearances at 15 game increments, not stuff like 100, gives more likelihood of some of them being achieved. An additional £100,000 was ordered should Ipswich Town achieve promotion to the Premier League in the next 3 seasons. - this appears to be linked to club, regardless of whether player still there. Tranmere Rovers are to receive 20% of any profit made by Ipswich Town in selling the player to another club at any point in the future. It is quite worth listening to the BBC interview with Micah Richards about how he went from £5k a week to £50k as a ... teenager . https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/59527230 That's just madness isn't it? I'd struggle to keep a check on reality if I came into 50k a week now. If I was 18 and they were paying it to me every week I'm not sure I'd be here. Even 5k a week is an astonishing amount of money even in a short career. I like Richards too and he was really good at that age. Bit sad to hear he's in property, but appreciate its the done thing and there's no context there. maxjak
It is starting to appear that Lloyd Kelly is one of the most desired acquistions of the coming window...with a whole host of top clubs hoping to sign him? i can see him as a future England player, so the fee, and our percentage could end up as very useful?

Even a silly offer leaves them stuck for a replacement. They paid a big fee so it would need a crazy number. Around 30 mill will be hard to turn down? IMHO. If it is West Ham then Kelly might want it too. wouldnt have thought a london club would be too desirable at the moment, bournemouth is quite a nice place to live and Kelly has a very good chance of being back in the prem next season. could see him hanging on for 6 months

allyolly
Kelly not in the squad today for their game at QPR. Speculation on Bournemouth Twitter that he could be off. Would be very timely if we could get a few quid!

Personally, a nice barn conversion in Epping Forest or up towards Saffron Walden would be nice!

Davefevs
These things tend to be 15-20%. Fee was £15m from what I was told. If he does move and let’s say it’s 20%, then I can’t see Bournemouth selling for less than £25m, so £2m to us. £30m is £3m to us. It would help cover some costs and I’m sure would allow us a bit more wiggle room. @billywedlock beat me to it! Loosey Boy
Interesting to see Kelly not in their squad tonight - can’t see them selling him for anything less than £30m, especially in Jan. £3m would come in very handy - I’m sure SL would then give Nige a tad more to spend….
