Preston away match day thread

Excellent half from us, full of energy, looking after the ball well, creating some great scoring opportunities, especially the AW chance on 38 minutes. Deserve to more further ahead, however, we are not due to our poor finishing.  Let’s hope we don’t get punished having been very much on top for 45 minutes.

H-NM, TK, AS and JD have been superb.

We are looking like a decent football team again ?

Dominant display, with some really good football played. Only issue being that we only have 1 goal to show for it. Inexplicable miss from Weimann, COD has had 2 decent chances, Semenyo so close on another 2 occasions. 0-3 would not have flattered us.

Have to assume PNE will show more in the 2nd half though.

1st Half summary:

As good an opening 45 as we've had all season.  1-0 doesn't do us justice.

Could shout out almost everyone.

Important to go a half without conceding having got the first.  What a super goal it was too.

O'Dowda, what an awful touch, tensed up, ended up on his right foot.

Weimann did a Chris Ewulumo, shanked it when easier to score.

Same again please.

We are as good to watch as we have been for many a year. The real frustration that half is its only one.

I am sure Preston will have a spell at some stage, but so far not really looked that troubled at the back. Not unlike in many ways the first half v Luton other than the score. Long way to go, lots can still happen of course, but those green shoots looking quite dense now.

PNE playing into our hands a bit by going long a lot.AS has suddenly turned in to a helluvva player. Han Noah fantastic, been everywhere. Winning most of the 50:50s.

At defensive set pieces you can hear Klose yelling at team mates, organising everything. Has a good brain, doesn’t run anywhere but always in the right place. COYRs

We look brilliant AGAIN! How good is it to enjoy watching us.

We still need to be a bit more precise in the final third, but really am loving what I'm seeing.

I don't want to get carried away but if we can tie a couple of these down we could be in for an exciting season next year if we carry-on progressing.

Massengo brilliant AGAIN, Scott brilliant AGAIN. Semenyo causing all sorts of problems AGAIN. At this rate I might even change my username.

He missed an open goal from 6 yards, ball played across the 6 yard box by Semenyo, Weimann ran in on back post and somehow got the ball to hit his heel and go 3 yards wide. Simple chance that may well have put the game to bed.

I'm getting some cracking co-comms from the wife today.

Weimann should've "just popped it in the goal".

Oh and 1-0 is better than not 1-0.

It's like being in the RobinsTV studio.

Quick thoughts

Klose has been immense

Really marshalling the defence well

Preston are shocking

They must come at us more 2nd half surely, then again we are going well and we could get more goals yet ourselves

Klose not put a foot wrong so far, hope I've not jinxed him.

In fact, every player has played well, hats of to Massengo and Scott who are running the midfield.

What I like about us now is that we’re starting to play good, entertaining football more consistently. We’re still losing some, but the defeats are either because we are simply outclassed (Fulham) or where we probably should have won (Luton).

Much better than scraping by with poor, boring performances and wins owing more to luck than superiority - which has been the case with us for a long time.

And all of that is with a limited squad with some very obvious areas for improvement. Every reason to be optimistic about where we’re heading.

Liking Klose so far… lots of shouting and encouragement. Plus calm when on the ball… playing some lovely stuff, a second would be useful.

Plus pushing their players around in the box, not allowing himself to be pushed around.  Two 40 yard passes into the front men...passes, not hoofs.

Pring has lost concentration 3 times, once trying to run the ball out, the other two poor touches, one under his foot, the other too heavy.  Concentrate please Cam.

Chris Honour on Robinstv co-comms is spot on with his summaries.

Sun going down now, getting bloody cold here now. Hopefully the football will be just as good in the 2nd half and they are attacking the goal Infront of us after it all being down the other end. But then again we had all the play early at Luton too

Loving reading all the positive comments about our performance today.

We definitely seem to have stepped on over the last month or so and this gives us a really good platform to build on.

Sounds like I'm missing a cracker so far.

You aren’t half. Some of the interlinking up front is incredible.

I reckon Scott will find the score sheet second half.

Hi Mortis, good to see you posting.  Hope you're well, but hope we are celebrating, not you, later!

I don't suppose anyone knows what the 'offensive' chants being aimed at Akinfenwa at Wycombe were?

Bad enough for the Wycombe manager to complain and the MK Dons twitter to ask their fans to stop.

I hope it was something properly unacceptable to get that response and not just 'you fat bastard' which is what I'd expect for Akinfenwa while warming up.

The best First Half in one year probably. And we may had 2-0 adv at half time last year but the confidence and the positivity is at a huge level.

1. Klose, he is an example of how to come at a competitive level after 8 months without a club and go straight into the team ( pretty smart player even if he is not a fast one )

2. Semenyo like I said lately, becomes better and better. He had literally 0 mistakes this half and usually he had ONLY mistakes a few months back. Full credit to him, strong, fast, and good passes.

3. Massengo. I love how agressive he is and his great balance. He needs indeed to play alongside a stronger CM but even so, he workes great in our team. The heart of City for sure.

4. Scott - He will be a massive player for sure, he looks very confident also.

5. Dasilva, not on his right side but he looked pretty good and I know his form from a few years back, he may get it again and shine.

6. Kalas ( one of the best CB in this league )  he is very dominant.

I liked the press, the confidence and the way of build-up without long passes.

Martin may be a great scorrer at times but except that 18 yard box he can't do much. We can improve with a better striker and another defensive midfielder for sure.

We may lose this half who knows. But the first half showed that we have got some quality. The morale is or was down, but a lot of our players can play at this level .We just throw things at them after every bad game and clearly that doesn't help.

We have better players than Preston and other teams above us. Everything is about confidence.

It must have been - Big Bayo doesn`t get offended by that one, he laps it up!
