Never to the dark side

For all the warranted melodrama and negativity, in the likely scenario that England win their fortunately drawn group games and build confidence going into knockout territory will anyone be talking about or caring these glorified friendlies?

Of course not.

So much melodrama it's unbelievable. Just look at how Italy, Germany, Spain and France have been getting on recently too - not much better.

People have forgotten these games are basically friendlies, which were nearly always drab affairs.

I'd take issue with "fortunately drawn" WC group. Isn't it the highest ranked group, or something?

Iran will be a nightmare to play against, USA have decent players these days, and Wales are perfectly capable of getting results against the top sides in Europe. We should qualify, of course. But not as easy as some think.

Sit back, use Sterling as a pacy centre forward and hope to catch them on the break. That’s it.

Foden not at the game, Germany as rubbish as we are. In fairness, we have created the better chances but it’s pretty dull.

Only hope is our players cannot be arsed with all this and are waiting for the WC to start. Possible I suppose but not putting my mortgage on it.

Tonight England are playing a game in a friendly competition which they have already been knocked-out/relegated from. Therefore, is this England's most pointless game of football, ever?

Added to the fact there is no jeopardy as they all know that they're on the plane, anyway.

Luke Shaw is an odd player.  Capable of some very good stuff but also really sloppy.   Have to admit to being nonplussed that Chilwell doesn't appear to be rated at all.  He's clearly our best LB/LWB.  Seems like he won't get any gametime in these 2 games.

I'd agree that Shaw is inconsistent and for many he's a marmite player, but his presence in the team tonight has given us better balance and he played the pass of the half to Sterling who should have scored. Being a better balanced side has meant England have played better tonight than against Italy but as mentioned elsewhere the bar was pretty low.

Off to the Donkey sanctuary.

To be fair he’s usually served England well. Unfortunately this goes to show that nines times out of 10, out of form or players who aren’t regulars are off the match pace.

Southgate could’ve given him his run out v Italy and then took him back out the limelight. Perhaps for Tomori who we’ve seen little of.

Germany take a deserved lead.

England tactics: Wait for Sterling to sprint passed their defence and hope.

Not sure it was deserved, I would have said up to them we had created the few chances in the game. Certainly more than edging it now. I am just waiting for GS to make his usual subs to swing the game,

I’m sure that one thing that has never helped an England side at Wembley is the atmosphere - it’s like a morgue at times!

A rebuild based more on corporatism than for the fans imo. Much better home games would be played at Elland Road, Villa Park, St James Park, Old Trafford etc

They were the only side looking to make something happen. We have been waiting for the break all game. Chances came from counter attacks, nothing else
