Jerseybean
This is the first of just four games this month (with Blackburn, Barnsley and WBA up next) and there will be a decent 20,000 + crowd. After today we have just three more home games this season, Peterborough United, Sheffield United and Hull City. Back in November they beat us 3-0, highlights here: Our head-to-head record is poor we have won 18, drawn 17 and lost 35. Last season they finished 18th and their anxious fans posted an open letter to the players last February (see picture). They are currently in 19th place on 37 points. There will be a minutes applause today on 62 minutes for ex-Bristol City apprentice (1976/77) Peter Hayes who sadly passed away on 24th January. There is also a book signing today https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/meet-club-legend-merrick-at-book-signing/ when Geoff Merrick will be signing his autobiography ‘Life with the Robins and beyond.’ Our squad is likely to include O’Leary, Kalas, James and Atkinson, so NP will have a few decisions to make. Pre-match NP said ‘I think it's always about us trying to lift the fans, they've played their part hugely this season and what we're trying to do is create a side here which gives people a bit of hope not just for this season but beyond.’ Last Saturday, for one weekend only, Birmingham City reverted to their original name - Small Heath Alliance - after accepting an order from the TV series Peaky Blinders: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/peaky-blinders-bbc-birmingham-city-23220355 They lost 2-0 at home to Huddersfield last time our when Lyle Taylor was injured during the warm up and Maxime Colin was also forced off in the first half. Their strike duo Troy Deeney and Scott Hogan are both ruled out with calf injuries. They are hoping to have Marc Roberts available today. Birmingham fans again protested at their owners last Saturday by throwing tennis balls onto the pitch, causing a delay, They have won just once in eight matches, and against the Terriers failed to find the net for the first time in 13 league games. Fans comments after the Huddersfield game: Only one player looked like making a difference today and that was Onel. Schoolboy defending which can only be expected from midfielders playing out of position - we need to get to the bottom of this injury crisis. Next season we'll rebuild. Then finish 19th and claim that the season after will be the rebuild, and the dross will continue for another 10 years. Can't defend. Embarrassing (self-inflicted) injury record. Deserve to be relegated this season, farcical that we will survive again. Taylor gets injured, Bacuna has a poor game, and we're rubbish. Shame we're so reliant on everyone being 100% all the time. Decision not to sign any defenders is killing any chance of progress this season. They are managed by Lee Bowyer. As a player, he was a midfielder who featured for Charlton Athletic, Leeds United, West Ham United (two spells), Newcastle United, Birmingham City and Ipswich Town in over 18 years as a professional. He made 397 appearances in the Premier League, took part in semi-finals of the UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League with Leeds and won the Football League Cup with Birmingham in 2011. Bowyer was capped once by the England national team. His record against us is played 3 won 2 and lost 1. He’s got a bit of an unpleasant reputation; he fought with Kieron Dyer, his Newcastle team-mate, allegedly because Dyer didn’t pass to him, Emma Keeney, who he was dating back in 1995, reported that he slapped her, spat in her face and when he chucked her said ‘I can't risk it, we might have a brown baby’. Bowyer allegedly also went on the rampage at a McDonald's restaurant on the Isle of Dogs in 1996 and hurled racist abuse at the Bangladeshi staff before knocking a cook unconscious. Bowyer was manager of Charlton Athletic for three years, before he left to become the Birmingham City manager in 2021. Players that have played for both clubs in (relatively) recent times include, Duncan Idehen, David Cotterill, Wade Elliott, David Rennie and Mick Harford. Today’s officials: Referee: Thomas Bramall. Assistant Referee: Bhupinder Gill. Assistant Referee: Robert Merchant. Fourth Official: John Busby. ashton_fan
I would start with James in midfield today in place of Massengo who has looked a bit jaded recently, maybe bring him on for the last half hour from the bench. 2

More than 50 beachgoers had to be rescued when they got trapped in sinking mud as crowds flocked to the coast at the weekend. Avon Fire and Rescue saved 30 people at Weston-super-Mare beach at about 17:00 BST on Saturday and rescued a further 23 people on Sunday at 18:50. Station manager Shaun Heighton said the very high tide at Weston beach meant it left a dangerous mud residue behind. The coastguard is asking people to take note of warning signs in place. Davefevs
Interesting decisions ahead today for Nige. Would not surprise me to see the continuation of the back three (with Cundy in) but Alex Scott back to RWB. That would accommodates a midfield 2 of James and Williams and the WSM3 if Massengo given a rest. Brum lined up 442 in recent games, but with wingers and both full-back positions due to injuries, and Pederson the only real ball-winner in the back line. It really is an opportunity for Semenyo to run riot if he gets the chance. We will need to be careful in wide positions, as I’m sure Brum will want to double up on our Wing-backs and feed crosses to Jutkiewicz.
