I'm not even saying violent, just even sticking out an arm to block and a hand of their shoulder, you'll get that 1 in 1000 (or however much) parent who'll want to take it as far as possible despite them being in the wrong, so the stewards are probably looking out for themselves as much as anything. I'd agree more needs to be done though, whether that's extra stewards who go on the pitch at the end to effectively form a ring around the players to stop people getting to players. It's a minefield that the stewards are probably best to just leave alone and let them go for those reasons. What should be happening though, and this isn't a criticism of the club because they won't want to be seen to be heavy handed or harsh, but the child(ren) should be escorted back to parents and details taken to ban/fine them heavily. If they aren't willing to comply, then the police should be involved. The club (or clubs because it's not just us), have tried the nice approach and asked/told. It's still happening so now they need to step it up.
Pezo
I can remember when I was kid 20 or so years ago the only chance to get a players shirt was at the end of the season running on the pitch. If parents are worried about there kids being rugby tackled by a steward then don't encourage them to go on the pitch.
richwwtk
Couldn't they just tell the players that if they want to give their shirts away then feel free to give it to a kid waiting on the sidelines or whatever, but absolutely do not give it to someone that has run on the pitch. Make it clear that this is the policy and parents will soon stop sending their kids out there. You might get more begging signs but that is hardly a big issue.

To be fair to Massengo, he declined to give the little spermer his shirt, but instead signed his top. Hopefully it was his best jumper and his old man gave him a clip for getting perm marker all over it.
